Do you have a bank account linked to Paypal?

Oh I see, lame.

Yes and always have. They never gave us a fixed fee before and this came out of nowhere -.-.

Is this a new fee by Paypal or Canada's government?

I would imagine pp since they are not based in Canada. We do not even bother forcing foreign companies to collect taxes like the EU does with VAT.

Didn't use to be. I had no issue using my Amex card as with a US address, and it has stuck.
No idea if new accounts have more checks.

Probably though that would require a US payment method no? I know some banks let you open up a USD account but I'm not sure if that would work :/.

Just double checked and this change only affects F&F options. If you send it as Goods and Services, the fees remain the same.

If we have to send $ to someone else, we need to keep in mind the vendor fees when doing it.

If other payment methods (US PayPal etc) aren't an option one way to at least minimise the fees, especially if you're a regular buyer would be to find a trader who will let you make a one-off payment for x-amount and then they just take the bundle cost from that amount. That way you only pay the fee once as oppossed to 7 times (roughly based on a $10 payment). Obviously the greater the payments you make the less extra you're paying per bundle.

The the btc fees were around 10 usd, at least it was a month ago, it's more now.

BTC isn't the only currency though. It just the most well-known. Many smaller currencies are more stable in price and have faaaaar lower fees.

Those which operate (mine) chains will have increased fees too, if they get popular. Not as bad as btc though. None of them is as close to mainstream adoption as bitcoin is, so the fees are low. All of these coins need some kind of backbone(like miners) to run the network. Running the network costs money, even if it's decentralized. Bitcoin's operating costs are ridiculous and unnecessary... There will be a reasonable solution for all these problems, I think soon, maybe it's bitcoin's magical lightning network.

This new fee is awful, 3 dollars in fees to send 3 dollars to a US person. Genius.

my god, I just tried "group buy" today to grab a copy of Blazblue and noticed price = fee... Almost cri right there... So how do you come to deal with the problem now? Doing the pay for good and service will require sellers to do some calculation. What about US account, have you tried making one yet Cj?

I searched up banks around me but they require a $2/month for US account, which isn't worth it since I don't use it THAT often but it's an option. Buy early from someone in Canada, look at the country flag in their profile.

I guess that is the only option now :(

Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm surprised it hasn't been suggested yet but you could find a host you trust and who hosts most important Bundles and ask them if they offer wallet service as a workaround. You still have to pay the fee once but at least it's once for let's say a whole year of GroupBuys instead of every single time. That's what I used to do when EU had problems sending amounts smaller than 1$.

Aww crap. I had no idea Paypal's fees were now that expensive. I'll have to cancel my group buy then, no way I'm gonna pay over 5$ in fees to get the Friday bundle. ;_;

whoa that's hell of a fee. Moreover if they take it from any payment like 0,5 or 1$ that's just stealing

That's a shitty icing on top of the shitty cake that Paypal has become. They used to advertise Paypal as a quick and free way to send small amounts of money to your friends and now we're often paying more fees than the actual money we're sending.
