Own this on GOG, they say it's an amazing game. Haven't played it yet, though. So many games, only me...

I played it maybe two years after its release (so, like, 10 years ago? =O) and loved it.
Clever, cute, (at the time, pretty), and fun in its story and not-always-combat-based elements.
How well it has aged, I couldn't say; but the 2011 HD remake definitely should have helped keep it fresh :)
If Ubitsoft ever gets me the sequel they've been promising since, like, 2008, that'd be great :X
In any case, I think it's a game you should definitely play once, though a lot of the concepts it introduced have been reimplemented since.
