I'd go console and never look back, since almost everything on PC requires some kind of online DRM service that could once go bancrupt.

It won't affect us much.If Valve were to go bankrupt. They would do anything they can to not disappear like THQ.They will sell game franchises like Portal/Half Life/CS/Left for Dead.If that doesn't help they will sell their platform.Steam will never go down because it is so popular and anyone with a brain would want to be in charge of steam.

If Valve were to go bankrupt tomorrow how much of an effect it would have on the PC industry? how hard will you take it personally? What will happen to Steamgifts? will it become Origingifts? How luckily for such an event to actually happen? If Valve opened a donation to return Steam, how much would you donate? And if all fails, what company you would've wanted to take over Steam?
P.S: No, I don't think Steam will go bankrupt, at l;east not in the near 100 years.
