A companion thread to here budding off of my post here. Not everything that is under $10 is listed. Not everything good is listed. These are things I either enjoyed on Steam or off-Steam, saw friends or family play and felt it was fun, or thought that other people might enjoy. Feel free to post things as well.

The reason why I stopped at $10 is because I sifted through 393 pages (or 9825 items according to the bottom of page 393) on Steam and can't do the last 36 pages. Not tonight. I just can't.

EDIT: Finished going through the last 36 pages.

  • One Finger Death Punch 4.99 -75%->1.24 Very simple, surprisingly a lot of fun. Little tedius sometimes but variety helps.
  • VVVVVV 4.99 -75%->1.24
  • The Room 4.99 -75%->1.24, Played through Android. A mix of Escape the Room and Point And Click, it and the other two games in its series are a lot of fun. Price isn’t so bad. I paid about a buck per game.
  • The Room Two 4.99 -75%->1.24, Played through Android.
  • Blackwell Bundle 19.99 -75%->4.99, Played through Desura. Old-style Point And Click adventure based around the idea of ghosts and detectiving. I recommend the games.
  • Blackwell Epiphany 9.99 -75%->2.49 Blackwell's finale.
  • Overlord 4.99 -75%->1.24
  • Overlord: Raising Hell 9.99 -75%->2.49
  • Overlord II 9.99 -75%->2.49
  • Tadpole Treble 4.99 -75%->1.24 By Brawl In The Family’s creator, if you love rhythm games and his artstyle go for it.
  • Mighty Gunvolt 4.99 -75%->1.24, Played through 3DS. If Azure Striker Gunvolt is like Megaman Zero or ZX with a taser gun, this is like Megaman Classic where you play as characters from Mighty No 9, Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Gal*Gun.
  • Azure Striker Gunvolt 14.99 -75%->3.74, Played through 3DS. If you like Megaman Zero or ZX and wanted crazy boss fights and a strange little VN between levels, this is your game. Apparently the Steam version has more levels and events for certain holidays. But I’ve heard there are some control issues for this.
  • Reprisal Universe 6.99 -80%->1.39, Played through Browser-game. Kind of like Civilization if you had god powers and your troops had free movement.
  • Deus Ex 6.99 -80%->1.39
  • Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons 14.99 -90%->1.49 I haven’t actually played it but I’ve had my eye on it for a while. Two-person puzzle game so you can play with a friend or on your own with the same controller.
  • Brutal Legend 14.99 -90%->1.49, Played through Console. What happens when Heavy Metal fuses with RTS and open-world action hack & slash with the occasional driving.
  • System Shock 19.99 -85%->2.99 I’ve never actually played these but my brother seemed to enjoy them. I’m honestly debating on getting it myself.
  • The Floor is Jelly 9.99 -85%->1.49 A weird platformer but the level physics is a lot of fun.
  • Qbeh-1: The Atlas Cube 9.99 -85%->1.49 It’s like Portal without Portal or the Portal Gun. Instead you suck up certain cubes and use them to progress in the levels.
  • Vox Populi Vox Dei 2 2.99 -50%->1.49 I played the first title, a flash game. It was a bizarre, hard, but satisfying puzzle tactics disguised as a stealth platformer. This is its sequel.
  • NiGHTS into Dreams 7.99 -80%->1.59, Played through Sega Saturn. My only complaint is that it is based off of the PS2 port which added only a few things from the Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams promotional disk. I wanted to play as Sonic in a Sonicfied level and play the Reala mode damnit. That being said this is a wonderful game with atypical mechanics if you take enough damage you revert to a normal kid and have to run around on the level’s map to try and reach the caged jester.
  • Pony Island 4.99 -67%->1.64 Very very strange runner that warps into a shooter with occasional puzzles and hidden collectables.
  • INK 4.99 -66%->1.67 A difficult platformer where you reveal the stage by splattering paint all over everything.
  • Q.U.B.E. 6.99 -75%->1.74 Its not Portal but the Director’s Cut threw a Portalish plot in. I think this comes with the old version but I can’t swear by it. Be warned.
  • Please, Don’t Touch Anything 4.99 -60%->1.99 A point-and-click game with multiple endings but its a bit frustrating to figure out all the tricks.
  • Sonic Adventure DX 7.99 -75%->1.99 I can’t help it. I love this stupid game. The voice acting is dumb, the animation is dated, the story is like a B-movie, but it is fun.
  • LIMBO 9.99 -80%->1.99
  • Noitu Love 2 Devolution 9.99 -80%->1.99 The developer has done a lot of really cool games. This is so far the only commercial title he has.
  • Last Word 9.99 -80%->1.99 A bizarre RPG with a rather unique combat system. You wouldn’t realize it was made with RPGMaker. Originally was made for an indie game contest.
  • To Be or Not To Be 4.99 -60%->1.99 Ever play any of those old Choose Your Own Adventures? This is in the same spirit but for Hamlet. You can stay on the rails to the plot of Hamlet or you can warp the story into something absolutely insane like say taking Hamlet’s ghostly father out on an epic adventure.
  • Roundabout 9.99 -80%->1.99 Honestly this isn’t my cup-of-tea but other people might enjoy a Crazy Taxi style game with perpetual rotation movement.
  • LiEat 2.99 -30%->2.09 Originally three Japanese freeware games, this is an unusual JRPG with branching paths that basically split off between “obvious stupid choice” bad ending, a bad ending through a final failure, or a good ending if you win or jump through certain hoops. It’s a cute game and the ocassional animated cutscenes are very well done.
  • Rusty Lake 4.99 -58.00%->2.11 I’ve actually haven’t played these games but I have played pretty much every other point-and-click/escape-the-room game by this dev. The others were free. These are paid. Very strange and creepy but very cool.
  • Megabyte Punch 14.99 -85%->2.24 Customizable beatemup robots in a metroidvania sort of hub-world with branching path levels that you can break with attacks.
  • Chantelise – A Tale of Two Sisters 9.99 -75%->2.49 Do you like PS1 and N64 style 3D action games such as Tail Concerto or Megaman Legends?
  • Carpe Fulgur Collection 49.97 -80%->9.99 Chantelise, Fortune Summoners, and Recettear. Three fun and different games.
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II 9.99 -75%->2.49 An bit old and unfortunately rushed game but its still pretty cool. Plus there’s like a thousand mods out for it and some finish what the developers intended to add...
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 9.99 -75%->2.49 Old for a Bioware RPG but its still fun. The foundation upon which KOTOR 2 and TOR sprung from.
  • Dungeons of Dredmor 4.99 -50%->2.49 I swear this used to cost more but its a good Roguelike with a developer-encouraged mod-scene. I recommend getting the Complete Pack as its just a buck more for two expansions.
  • The Last Door 19.98 -78%->4.48 If Poe and Lovecraft got together to make a simple graphics point-and-click game, this might be it. Genuinely spooky at times. Originally was a bunch of flash games, though. I’m not sure what exactly the difference is.
  • Gemini Rue 9.99 -75%->2.49 Sci-Fi Detective Point and Click Adventure!
  • The Black Watchmen 9.99 -75%->2.49 This used to cost a LOT more before price drops. Even with the expansion DLC (namely when they’re on sale) it still costs less than the original price tag. Do you like ARGs and puzzles? Do you like cryptography and web-hunting for info? This may be your sort of game then.
  • Ahnayro 9.99 -75%->2.49 Same sort of game by the Black Watchmen devs but so far I’ve seen more web-hunting research than puzzles.
  • Puzzle Game Starter Pack 15.98 -79%->3.39 Black Watchmen and Ahnayro
  • Black Watchmen Occult Agent Edition 29.96 -56%->13.09 All Black Watchmen game packs
  • Alice and Smith Complete Library 55.93 -61%->22.06 EVERYTHING so far from Black Watchmen and Ahnayro.
  • Super Chibi Knight 4.99 -50%->2.49 The first game was a flash game a gameplay style similar to Zelda 2. The voices were done by the dev’s small child. Super Chibi Knight is also like Zelda 2 but with a LOT more stuff and still voiced by his now older child.
  • Crowtel Renovations 4.99 -50%->2.49, Played through Itch io. A strange but very fun metroidvania with a rather silly plot. The original was when I first saw it Pay What You Want. This version has a lot more stuff and has been spruced up a bit. Be the bird you never knew you wanted to be. Or the frog.
  • Fractured Soul 4.99 -50%->2.49, Played through 3DS. Classic-style platformer with an unusual but not too surprising gimmick of having your character traversing two parallel worlds. I’m not sure if there’s any big changes from the 3DS version but it was a lot of fun.
  • Olympia Rising 4.99 -50%->2.49 A platformer inspired by Greek Mythology. Not the most popular title but I think its pretty slick.
  • Ninja Senki DX 4.99 -50%->2.49, Played through Internet. I forget where I first saw this but its a great little old-school style platformer. It’s been changed up a bit since the original version but I found it to be fun if a bit frustrating.
  • Castle Crashers 14.99 -80%->2.99, Played through Xbox. Beatemup arcade style game. It’s been out for a while so I’m sure you’ve probably heard of this.
  • Bastion 14.99 -80%->2.99 Hacknslash action-rpg with a bit of a city-building aspect. The look and the music are wonderful.
  • Transistor 19.99 -85%->2.99 I don’t normally enjoy tactical rpg sort of games. If nothing else the music and the look suckered me in. Being by the team that made Bastion didn’t hurt.
  • Skullgirls 9.99 -70%->2.99 Very slick fighter with a varied cast of fighters and fighting styles. .. I don’t usually play Fighters outside of arcades and its been ages since I set foot in one, okay?
  • Dust An Elysian Tail 14.99 -80%->2.99 Sometimes a bit too shiny but a very solid beatemup / metroidvania.
  • Anodyne 9.99 -70%->2.99 Creepy GB-Zelda. Go for it if you want more Zelda-ish games.
  • A Good Snowman is Hard to Build 9.99 -70%->2.99, Played through Android. A bunch of puzzles, most of which are one of my least favorite sort: ice/snow-based. But I enjoyed it and recommend looking into it anyway.
  • Crypt of the Necrodancer 14.99 -80%->2.99 An unusual hybrid of DDR and Roguelikes but most people probably know of this by now. For added fun you could get a DDR dance pad and actually dance to the game!
  • NecroDancer AMPLIFIED PACK 21.98 -63%->8.15 Necrodancer and its expansion pack prequel.
  • NecroDancer ULTIMATE PACK 54.99 -62%->20.61 EEEEEVERYTHIIIIIING. Including remix albums.
  • Mutant Mudds Super Challenge 9.99 -70%->2.99 Did you like Mutant Mudds and want more? Bam. More.
  • Ophidia 4.99 -40%->2.99, Played through Android. Essentially its a shiny game of Snake except you are trying to touch your own tail.
  • OVIVO 7.99 -60%->2.99
  • Glitchspace 12.99 -75%->3.24 I got this super super early through an off-Steam early access deal. It has been a while but it was an unusual 3D puzzle-platformer with a neat idea of live-editing pieces of the game’s code. It came out a while after I reached the end of what then existed so I’m not sure of the changes or how the final product is but it was neat.
  • Hacknet 9.99 -66%->3.24 The hacking sim that got me into hacking sims. It originally was a freeware style alpha or beta but came out to Steam and now has not only extra stuff and accessible mods.
  • Hacknet Complete Edition 16.98 -54%->7.77 Hacknet and its expansion.
  • Hacknet Ultimate Edition 31.96 -63%->11.81 All the Hacknet stuff.
  • Lara Croft GO 9.99 -66%->3.39, Played through Android. Honestly I feel this is the best of the three “GO” games by Canadian Square-Enix. Hitman was the first so there is little to no plot, a so-so look, and boardgame style movement. Deus Ex GO had too MUCH plot, pretty cool puzzle effects, but frustrating gameplay. Lara Croft GO on the other hand was perfectly balanced with the harder levels being extras that were added in for free.
  • JumpJet Rex 9.99 -66%->3.39 JumpJet Rex has an alpha or prototype on Gamejolt at the least. This is miles better with an insane level of customization as rewards for collecting coins in the levels. It is a speedrun aerial platformer with rocket-feet and goalposts to meet for each level.
  • Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure 9.99 -65%->3.49 Originally on the PSP but people who voted for it on Greenlight were gifted a free copy. An unusual sort of game but like many PSP titles it feels like a PS1 era game.
  • OPUS: The Day We Found Earth 8.99 -60%->3.59, Played through Android. A bit of a co-ordinates puzzle game. I recommend waiting or playing it on the Android though. The Android version at any rate was kind of short.
  • Broforce 14.99 -75%->3.74 Expendabros is a sort of demo for this absolutely insane beatemup/shooter. One of the things I love about this game is how insane it is. Another is online co-op.
  • The Stanley Parable 14.99 -75%->3.74 Originally a mod for Half-Life, this is proof that the developers can plan for most if not everything you do and make silly narration for it.
  • Mark of the Ninja 14.99 -75%->3.74 Stealth ninja with optional murder game by Klei.
  • Mark of the Ninja: Special Edition 17.99 -75%->4.49 Adds in a level, two tools, an entire set of alternate playthroughs,and commentary.
  • Technobabylon 14.99 -75%->3.74 Cyberpunk Cop the Point and Click Adventure!
  • Titan Souls 17.99 -75%->4.49 I played the original version of it a while back. This is heavily updated. It is similar to Zelda if Zelda was more like Shadow of the Colossus and you only had a single arrow to fight with. Welcome to Hell.
  • Torchlight 14.99 -75%->3.74 A pretty damn good action-rpg made by people who worked on oldschool Diablo.
  • Torchlight 2 19.99 -75%->4.99 Torchlight but better. With dev-supported modification.
  • Retro City Rampage DX 14.99 -75%->3.74, Played through … somewhere. I forget where I played it first but it’s essentially oldschool GTA with a crazy amount of extra missions and challenges.
  • TRI: Of Friendship and Madness 14.99 -75%->3.74 I’ve been watching this for some time. It’s like Portal if Portal went on an LSD trip and gave you a platform-gun that defies physics.
  • Heroes of a Broken Land 14.99 -75%->3.74 I’m not sure why I have yet to get this. It is a Dungeon Crawler with multiple parties, a 4K overworld, and sort of city-management. I keep playing the demo. I just haven’t gotten the game itself for some reason. I recommend trying it out.
  • Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition 19.99 -80%->3.99 I haven’t played this but here’s something to think about: the base game alone used to be $50. All the DLC according to the game’s page comes up to about $44 for roughly 15 or 16 DLC plus 3 free ones. It’s like Batman Arkham but with the Lord of the Rings movies. I’ve put off getting it because its not the books and I’d much rather be Turin or one of Feanor’s sons if I must be an edgey mcgrim guy but $4 is a steal.
  • Ossuary 9.99 -60%->3.99 I played the demo/prologue a while back. Then I got the game. It’s by a dev who’s done a lot of cool (if strange) games and this may be the strangest. Its a bit hard to quantify into a few words but I guess esoteric puzzle might work with multiple final choices.
  • Crystal Towers 2 XL 7.99 -50%->3.99 Genesis-era Sonic levels, Metroidvania hub, Super Mario 64-style missions, and Tony Hawk style combo chains. There is a demo but I found it a lot of fun.
  • 1000 Amps 4.99 -20%->3.99 Light-up puzzle-Metroidvania.
  • Ys I & II Chronicles+ 14.99 -70%->3.99 I’ve only played this in the Ys series but it is pretty cool but sadly its been too long for me to remember the exact details of the game aside from my impressions.
  • Legend of the Skyfish 7.99 -40%->4.79, Played through Android. I got this on the Android so while I went far enough to have a good taste of it I was frustrated by the touch-screen controls. Think of this as Zelda but you fight with a boomerang-style weapon that doubles as a sword. The biggest disappointment I had with this was that you went directly from level to level rather than traversing a world. I recommend getting this if it is on sale. Controls should be muuuuch better here.
  • Jotun: Valhalla Edition 14.99 -67%->4.94 Something almost like Shadow of the Colossus but for Norse mythology with what feels like Disney-style artwork. The sheer scope of this is impressive but I kind of suck at it as I keep getting killed by a giant bird.
  • DuckTales Remastered 14.99 -67%->4.94 Modern update to an old NES game based around Donald Duck’s disgustingly rich uncle but with more of a plot than just “greedy duck fights everything to the death in strange locations for their money”.
  • La-Mulana 14.99 -67%->4.94 I originally played the old version of La-Mulana with simpler graphics. This has a lot more stuff although I keep getting tripped up by the fall mechanics as I keep expecting to be able to move forward or back as I fall.
  • Castaway Paradise 14.99 -67%->4.94, Played through Android. It is Not!Animal Crossing. Unfortunately while it is a good idea I always lose interest in Animal Crossinig fast.
  • Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed 19.99 -75%->4.99 Sonic Go-Kart racing in transforming vehicles. You also get to drive around as Shenmue’s protagonist in a forklift, NiGHTS and Reala from NiGHTS into Dreams, Ralph from Wreck-It Ralph, and for some reason three of the Team Fortress guys. What’s not to love?
  • Oxenfree 19.99 -75%->4.99 Ever watched an old horror film where the group of teens who want to party sneak out to the Obviously Haunted Area where the serial killer/monster/ghost is waiting to get them all? Ever yell at them to get out? Well, turns out if they tried to get out things get worse.
  • Sonic Generations 19.99 -75%->4.99 Many modern Sonic games have gotten a lot of flak but this one is pretty good if an excuse to show off levels from every other game. Then again it was released for an anniversary of Sonic’s release so there is an excuse for that excuse.
  • Mirror’s Edge 19.99 -75%->4.99, Played through Xbox. Parkour courier in a monochromatic world! I wonder what happened to my preorder messenger bag...
  • Orwell 9.99 -50%->4.99 Congrats, you’re a government agent spying on people on the internet through an observation program.
  • Badtime Stories Bundle 39.97 -72%->11.28 Includes This War of Mine, Orwell, and Beholder. AKA: Survive a war-torn city, spy on people via internet, and spy on people via cameras while running an apartment complex.
  • The Banner Saga 19.99 -75%->4.99 I haven’t played this but that’s because I’m still debating on it. I… kind of suck at tactical rpgs and this is one.
  • The Banner Saga 2 19.99 -50%->9.99 Banner Saga’s sequel.
  • The Banner Saga Bundle 55.96 -73%->14.87 Banner Saga games and their soundtracks.
  • Dragon Age Origins 19.99 -75%->4.99 I haven’t played this either but it’s a nice deal for a tactical rpg.
  • Dragon Age Origins – Ultimate Edition 29.99 -75%->7.49 Includes the expansion pack and all extra stuff.
  • Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut 9.99 -50%->4.99 Rock solid Metroidvania with a good sense of humor.
  • Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion HD Renovation 9.99 -50%->4.99 Personally I hate jumpscares and I don’t like most horror games so this really isn’t my cup of tea. But its a bit update to a free game to a new engine.
  • Evoland 9.99 -50%->4.99 I played the original contest entry which is effectively the first level of this game. It goes from Atari’s “Adventure!” to Zelda 1 and slowly makes its way up in Adventure graphics and combat to overworld JRPGs and really fun 3D action dungeons.
  • MagicMaker 9.99 -50%->4.99 A bit of a funny looking game but it is fun if frustrating depending on your build and how you prep up the level. A lot of work was placed in the spell and passive effect system. The sheer amount of combinations and results is insane. Demo if you want to get a taste of the glorious bullet-spams you can invent.
  • ClaDun X2 9.99 -50%->4.99, Played through PSP. On one hand NIS title. On the other its an NIS title. I have a love/hate relationship with their games. Their games love to screw me over.
  • Dustforce DX 9.99 -50%->4.99 Very slick platformer.
  • Tales of Symphonia 19.99 -75%->4.99 It starts out cliché as heck but holy crap this game.
  • The Legends of Owlia 9.99 -50%->4.99 I’ve only played the demo but this is a very good old-school style action-adventure. Feels like it would be right at home in the GB or NES era.
  • Castle of Illusion 10.99 -66%->4.99 I have fond memories of kicking Pete-faced enemies’s butts on the Genesis. This has been changed up quite a bit but keeps to the spirit of the original.
  • Long Live the Queen 9.99 -45%->4.99 A Princess-raising sim made on a Visual Novel engine… but she’s gonna die. A lot. Usually from poisoned chocolates, the daft child…
  • Guacamelee 14.99 -60%->5.99 Crazy luchador metroidvania.
  • Sunless Sea 18.99 -70%->5.69 Lovecraft Shipping and Exploration. Prepare to lose lots of ships.
  • OneShot 9.99 -40%->5.99 Originally a fully fleshed out game for an indie contest, OneShot’s premise was “you only have one chance to beat this game”. Meaning that if you closed the game outside of save points or somehow got the kid into a sticky situation, you lose. For good. Thankfully you won’t have that problem here. No real combat here just exploration, story, and puzzles. Oh and there’s a free extra chapter that was unlocked a while back.
  • STASIS 19.99 -66%->6.79 I havn’t actually played this but I have played the free followup/same-universe game by the devs. These look similar enough to be able to tell that this is a great creepy isometric point-and-click adventure.
  • TowerFall Ascension 14.99 -50%->7.49 I played this with a bunch of friends at a party. It’s a blast! Arena free-for-all platformers tend to be.
  • Desktop Dungeons 14.99 -50%->7.49 I only played the free version (which by the way is an early beta build) but Roguelike Minesweeper hybrid is fun and you unlock stuff as you get good with various classes and races.
  • Streets of Rogue 14.99 -50%->7.49 Somewhere between Action game with RPG elements and Roguelike Dungeon Crawler with randomly generated quests and levels. Different classes are aggressive or passive to others… Honestly the full list of everything would take too much space.
  • Enter the Gungeon 14.99 -50%->7.49 I know its yet another Proc-gen dungeon game but this one is like a parody of them all. Everything is guns or bullets. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a gun that shot guns as bullets.
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown 29.99 -75%->7.49 Tactical RPG about fighting a not-quite-secret alien invasion whose demo sucked me in.
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 14.99 -50%->7.49 While Morrowind holds a place in my heart, Oblivion is kind of better.
  • Freedom Planet 14.99 -50%->7.49 Started out as a Sonic fangame (or maybe romhack I honestly forget) but it became its own thing as a love-letter to Sonic’s old games with good elements of later titles thrown in for good measure. There’s also a really fun extra time-attack mode like in Smash where you have to hit the targets as quickly as possible for different stages. Love oozes out of every pore. And if it seems hard at times that’s because it also loves to kick your butt.
  • Oceanhorn 14.99 -50%->7.49 It is like Zelda Windwaker if it was an isometric DS game. Originally a mobile game but I never tried it on there knowing how frustrating I would find touch control combat to be.
  • Tabletop Simulator 19.99 -50%->9.99 Not exactly a game but I’ve spent a lot of time playing boardgames and card games on it thanks to the mods. Plus while there are a lot of jigsaw games and similar on Steam this feels much more natural and is easier to sift through the pieces.
  • Hyper Light Drifter 19.99 -50%->9.99 It feels like an old SNES game in the vein of Zelda and similar titles but it is massive, has very little dialogue so far, and to my surprise has co-op (sadly just local).
  • Aragami 19.99 -50%->9.99 I’ve not actually played it but it is based off of / a pseudo-sequel to a student game called “Path of Shadows” which is still online last I checked. Essentially this is like a lot of PS1/PS2 stealth games but with a few unique mechanics and a bit of a Okami feel in graphics.
  • Wasteland 2: Director's Cut 39.99 -75%->9.99 I’ve not played this either but it’s like Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 but better and with more work put into it. What I find interesting is that it comes with the original version of Wasteland 2, a copy of Wasteland 1, and if you pay $5 more you get among an OST and three stories a copy of The Bard’s Tale (which in turn comes with The Bard’s Tale 1 to 3).
  • The Talos Principle 39.99 -75%->9.99
  • The Talos Principle Gold 72.94 -81%->13.63
  • Pinstripe 14.99 -33%->9.99 I got to play the first part through a flashgame setup. It is very nice although I’m kinda creeped out by various things including but not limited to the creep on the train a few scenes in. You’ll know who I mean.
  • 2064: Read Only Memories 19.99 -50%->9.99 Somewhere between Point and Click and Visual Novel, It is surprisingly cute looking for a cyberpunk-style setting.
  • Gocco of War 19.99 -50%->9.99 This is what happens when Splatoons and Super Mario Sunshine have an anime-looking kid raised in a themepark and teach it how to craft things like Monster Hunter.

Paint it Back 3.99 -50%
It's a puzzle game. a Nonogram, to be exact. There's a demo

Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Picross or Griddlers, are picture logic puzzles in which cells in a grid must be colored or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid to reveal a hidden picture.

If one prefers free version on Steam, there's Picross Touch.

Gunpoint 2.49 - 75%
Stealth puzzle game. There's a demo, too.

Picroooooss! I love Picross. I've got a great app on my Kindle, but I dropped it and now half the screen is shattered and unresponsive so I can't really play it until I get a replacement (which won't be for another month or so). T_T Thanks muchly for these recs--I'm downloading that free one and wishlisted the other for later contemplation. <3

Castle in the Darkness $1.99 sort of metroidvania. fast-paced game, but has some areas with one hit kills (spikes). I don't remember it being too annoying, though.
Valdis Story $3.74 metroidvania or action/rpg. one or both. seems to go on sale very rarely for this low, so may as well grab it if you like these.
Rex Rocket $0.99 another metroidvania
Shatter $1.99 arkanoid shooter with phenomenal music??

Bump for Valdis Story. It's easily become one of my favorite games over the past few days; I've been playing it to death. Great game, especially for that price.

I like when Steam shows when you purchased/redeemed a game.

Purchased Nov 27, 2013

I played it for a few hours and really liked it, but the difficulty setting did add a challenge and I distracted myself with other games. I still want to go back and finish it someday, though.

I was the exact same way. I kept restarting because I had the nasty habit of playing for a few hours, getting distracted with other games, and then having no idea what I was doing once I eventually came back to it. I only beat it for the first time the other night after having talked to a friend who urged me to finally do it, and I've been hooked since. I wish you luck on your future adventures.

I’ve not played this either but it’s like Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 but better

There is nothing better than Fallout 1 and 2.

Made a second list, also I missed these two games in the list above.

  • Shu 11.99 -40%->7.19 Somewhat like an old Genesis platformer game or Knuckles Chaotix.
  • Earthlock: Festival of Magic 29.99 -57%->9.89 A modern RPG wth the soul of an old Gamecube or PS1 title.

Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons 14.99 -90%->1.49 I haven’t actually played it but I’ve had my eye on it for a while. Two-person puzzle game so you can play with a friend or on your own with the same controller.

Nope, nope, nope. Very much a singleplayer game. :D

It's a two-character game.

I meant to say character but they ARE two people.

Yes, but I strongly advise against playing with a friend.

I don't try to be a smartass, but I just think you would do yourself short if you play it like that.

I mean, you can also play a shooter with 2 people, one does the mouse and the other the WASD keys, but that will take away from the experience as well. If you catch my drift.

Maybe if the puzzles were though as nails you could justify playing it like that, but they're not and they're also not the focus.

It's a nice game. If you have a controller hooked up to your pc it's a game I would recommend for that price (story isn't too long so you'll be finished in a couple of hours).

You forgot Goblin and Coins which is a great deal even at full price for anyone who grew up playing 8-bit games, and it's made by one of our own here.
