So Arma II and Arma II Combined Operations are on -75% sale.

Is it worth buying Combined Operations for the DayZ Mod?

If you really want to play DayZ then yes. You can probably get it even cheaper via trading. Currently DayZ mod has FAR more content than standalone.

Yes and DayZ mod will give you a good idea of what is and will be the expensive one. Some players have moved to the standalone, but it has still a good number of players (people who buy the game for DayZ should download a server browser like this or else it will be hard to find a server that meets their needs).

No, you should look Arma II: Operation Arrowhead stats (1, 2), that is the main way used to run DayZ Mod, the other one is without using Steam, as the game doesn't require the Steam Client (by default DayZ Commander doesn't use Steam). You can also download DayZ Commander and look how many people are currently playing.

ahhh thank you .. hmm 5k .. maybe it worth just for playing a bit and stay in the collection .. because im i think i prefer to play standalone in a full time game to keep track of the evolution of the game

You could get the ARMA 2: Complete Collection $9.99, includes the 3 DLCs too, If you're interested in playing some singleplayer. I noticed that the vanilla ARMA 2 campaign is a little buggy.
