So, I am about to give up on trying to get the S Rank achievements on My Friend Pedro and I thought of all the times I gave up on a gaming related goal. I also though it would be nice of me to remind other people of their personal failures. I refer to side quests, achievements, completion or just personal challenges, of course you can mention that game you didn't finish but there's already a thread for that.
Here are some I remember:

  • I gave up on trying Overdrill on Payday 2 (mostly because I didn't have friends to try with and it was always chaos with randoms).
  • I couldn't complete a single heist on Payday: The Heist.
  • I couldn't finish the Godmaster update on Hollow Knight.
  • I couldn't get the platinum relic on Crash Bandicoot's Stormy Ascent.
  • I couldn't even pass the first level of DOOM 2016 on Nightmare.
  • I couldn't get AAA on every mission on Killer is Dead.
  • I couldn't get the A-Rank achievements on Cuphead.
  • I couldn't complete the Castle level on Party Hard.
  • I can't understand the rhythm mechanic of Crypt of the Necrodancer.
  • I couldn't get the jump rope moon on Super Mario Odyssey I used a glitch for the sake of completion don't judge me.
  • I couldn't get the Fierce Deity mask on Majora's Mask but found out you can beat the game without it.
  • I couldn't complete the masks side quest on Ocarina of Time.
  • I couldn't win a single Tetris 99 game.
  • I still can't create a Mario Maker level I'm satisfied with.

And that's all I can remember, what about you?

The Trial of the Fool was fun for me at first but at some point you just have to be very precise. I managed to beat it but I can't say I enjoyed it beside the satisfaction of finally beating it. I believe I cleared 2 or 3 levels of Godmaster but then I just had to accept that wasn't a challenge meant for people with mi skill level. Such a beautiful game, tho. And that feeling of reward when you actually beat a boss is pretty cool compared to other games.

I don't remember because my memory is bad.
However, it becomes sleep deprivation! The fact that is hurting the body.XD
Oh, is my memory poor because of lack of sleep?

In any case, you should avoid playing multiple games at the same time.
Indigestion gameplay is probably not fun.

I wanted to get every achievement in Skyrim.
I would still like to do so, but I just don't have enough time right now between general life, university, and my jobs.

I stopped playing Wings of Vi (hard mode) after dying like 300 times at the Twin Orcs. Like all other bosses it's a try & die thing, but the dying thing started to become a little too stressful..

I achievement hunt, some games seem easy to 100%, but they turn out to be very tricky. I can't think of any specific names, but there are quite a few games I have sitting there with one or two achievements that are just way way too finnicky to get.

But if you still play payday, or would be interested in playing payday 2, I'd be up to do overdrill, besides, I have several friends who need to do overdrill to become worthy for the secret.

I don't have much time but we can try on a weekend, Payday 2 is a game I want to 100% but most achievements required a full crew and I mostly play alone or with randoms because my friends don't like the game. Add me if you like!

Yeah, I would like to 100% it but it seems like a very time consuming process, and I understand the not having much time part, I am much like that myself. We can give a bunch of heists a shot sometimes.

I'm personally better at stealth, but making a death sentence one down dodge build right now, I'm 6th infamy, and level 70 or so, so I'm just doing a bunch of easier heists to get the high levels. After I reach 100 I might stay at 6 for a while, just to get some loud heists done on death sentence one down. I've already done the majority of the stealth death sentence one down heists.

I may be a little rusty, since the last time I played they "balanced" a lot of stuff. I'm infamy 24 atm. What I started doing the get my latest infamy levels was to start a spree and play until I got 25 million experience. Then go infamous and collect the reward from the spree, 100 levels just like that, without playing short on skills, in case you want to level up without going back to level 0

I recently gave up achievement hunting since it was taking away the fun from gaming. Instead of just enjoying the game I just worried about it I would get certain achievements or not. It kind of became an obsession and it wasn't particularly healthy. Now I don't hunt any achievements regardless how easy they are. I won't even look at the achievement page anymore.

I am tempted to do the same, but still it scratches my eye if I see only 1 achievement missing or something similar (anyway, first time I play a game is on lowest difficulty usually, with no other goal than enjoying the game, and only after I play again to "hunt" achievements).

I still check it sometimes, but same otherwise. Refocusing myself as play as much of a game I can while I enjoy it, and play as many games as I can felt like a good trade instead of fewer tedious/unfun 100%s.

A more or less recent goal I gave up: in Borderlands, I didn't defeat Crawmerax. I would have needed to level up some more, and didn't feel like it.

i have all achievments in borderlands ... the most annoying thing was to grind all these claptrap accessory ... kept my pc overnight on and collected anything ... after that the game will crash ... also a fast way to level up is to go to the Eridian Promontory ... well i've boosted a friends acc in ... 15-20 minutes or so

Yeah, some achievements are just too long and repetitive. Thanks for the hint, I'll try to go there next time I install Borderlands ;)

I couldn't win a Minesweeper game at the hardest difficulty. I always end up choosing/guessing the wrong tile near the very end when there's basically a 50% chance of the tile being a bomb. I've already uncovered all the tiles that I'm confident of at that point.

Now that you mentioned Payday The Heist and Overdrill, I gave up on getting in the Payday: The Secret group. (You need to do the Overdrill (in Payday The Heist) on hardest difficulty and someone in the group has to record it.)

Oof, too long to make a list. Basically everytime I "beat" a game just to find out that there's more game beyond but brutally difficult, or just reaching a boss that I simply can't be asked to deal with.
That said there is one game I gave up on just because it was way too sad to continue, Valiant Hearts, for some reason knowing that most of the stuff is based on real events with just a bit of gamey fiction on top hit me much harder than any fully fictional game. It's much easier for me to handle sad stuff happening on screen when I know it originated from someone's imagination.

Darkest Dungeon and Xcom 2.

I love both and have like 100 hours in each or at least a significant amount, I've never finished either as the same pattern happens.

Start the game, love it, play for hours, get quite far in, start to get annoyed at a death, inoptimal upgrade, waste of resources, decide to restart...rinse, wash, repeat.

I got really far in Xcom2 one time and then misunderstood a mission objective timer, my entire squad got captured as a result when I could have easily survived.

The other thing I do in these games is have a "break" and by the time I return I've fogotten all mechanics and story so I have to restart.
