As we all know, the site has had some trouble lately. I saw that cg said in the chat room that it's just simply not able to keep up with the load on the current servers. The next step up is about 2.5 times more expensive than the current plan.

I'm sure a lot of us just install ad-blockers and never think about them... but if it's a site you love like steamgifts (and steamtrades, steamgamesales), please whitelist in your ad-blockers (I had to do it in AdBlock, Ghostery, and Disconnect).

It only shows one ad, at the very bottom of the screen. I don't even see it most of the time because you have to scroll all the way down for it.

Let's give more than just games, let's give our ad revenue too!

How do I add an exception in Opera's adblock? Disabling the option in site preferences doesn't do anything.

Since it's only the one ad then I can easily whitelist SG in adblock.

Instead of just unblocking ads, would it not be better if we began clicking them as well?

Clicking ads for the sole purpose of generating income is against the rules of the advertisement websites and can get them banned from the sites. Click them only if you are genuinely interested in the advertisement, and don't spam click the ads.

From what I've seen with my AdSense advertising, there's no way to monitor one's brain to determine if they are genuinely interested. The only time it's suspicious is when a single IP clicks EVERY advertisement that a site offers.

We could each click one ad every day or two and it would go unnoticed.

Advertising systems have algorithms to track potential abusers which are usually more complex than just detecting one IP clicking tons of ads.

It's important to note that the website owner and potentially any authority figure asking peoples to occasionally click on ads for the main purpose of generating income is grounds for termination from the advertisement program.

Which is exactly why I suggested clicking the occasional ad. No one has asked us to do it, and as long as it's not excessive, there's no harm.

If you scrolled down and clicked the ad at the bottom of this page right now, it would mean a little bit of money for cg and wouldn't put anything at risk.
