A while back I bought a cheap mouse-pad that was fine, except for the fact that it had strong rubber odor

Hmm, never heard of that issue. I personally use a mousepad that was sold to me for about 2€ by a guy when I was in Ukraine. He probably stole it. It works well.

I think mouse pads is one of those thing that you need to see in person before buying, kinda hard to judge things like texture (or smell) on a picture or a product description.

I have the bigger version. Its a great odorless mousepad and will last for many years. Its worth the money imo.

I'm currently saving some money to get a Razer Firefly. Just to complete my Razer Chroma set. Totally a waste of money tbh, but I love them lights in my gaming room.

I like the hard plastic cutting board type of "mouse pad". My Everglide has lasted 15 years. If shopping for a cutting board type, make sure it has a nice smooth bevel on the leading edge so it doesn't cut into your palm. There was one called the fUnc sUrface 1030 that had a double-sided slab of plastic (one rougher, one smoother) nestled in a rubber surround for comfort at the edges.

After being through a lot of trademarks hyper-investment ... like SteelSeries, A4Tech and Razer ... i decided to give a try to Tesoro - a not so well known brand.

I've been using this mousepad for the last 4 years and there are only good things to say about it. Smooth surface for any kind of optical or laser mouse at high DPI, good back grip and the textile is made with quality materials. Also, the sewing made all around the mousepad is gorgeous. There is no bad smell or rubber smell even if your palm sweats a lot. If you spill something on it the washing process is really good in comparison with the other brands i've owned.

If you're not expecting rain, maybe try to put the smelly pad outside for a couple days, could get rid of the smell. Maybe pinned on a clothesline.

I've got some cheap-ish C-Tech mousepad that has an ugly logo but was the cheapest pad with stitched borders (since all my previous ended up screwed up in that regard) and it really reeked of rubber when I got it and now I can barely smell it when I put my nose right against the rubber backside.

I'm using a Zalman MP1000 and i really like it a lot. Never noticed any smell coming from it.

If you're a DIY kind of person, why not cut an acrylic plate?

Using this one for a while now and find it quite comfortable. And ofc after the first couple of days it's completely odorless

I got tired of cleaning the mousepad on my keyboard tray, so I fold printer paper around it, and replace it when it gets dirty.

I'm just using a piece of paper for mousepad @_@

I use a cardboard to protect the desk and a sheet for the mouse. Works well with my mouse, is cheap and I can draw on it :D.
