so basically, i gifted a mate of mine a game, the payment went through, and it didn't send the gift. No receipt, no nothing! had to open a dispute with them, and eventually, he got the gift. result? NO. for this exact same gift, my account has now been suspended on "lack of payment". lack of fucking payment? i use paypal, it's not possible not to fucking pay? I've opened a ticket (again). is there anything else i can do? this is really pissing me off. and it looks like i won't have access to my games for a while -_- dickheads!

EDIT: The situation has been fixed, thank you all for your advice and such.

I admire your ability in not getting pissed over this nonsense but he basically blames steam for paypal related issues with the payment, he uses retarded anime emoticons and is acting childish in general. No wonder steam support doesnt help him , id just close the ticket right away if I would see a post like that.

thank you very much Paulius01 for your reply, of course, i wouldn't act this way to steam support themselves, in fact. i was quite polite, under said circumstances. I just get very frustrated when a large company (not sure which, paypal or Steam) insist on working separately, instead of making sure their records match. i personally believe it was Steam's end as i have print screen proof of a complete transaction on both my bank account, and my paypals recent sent money.

think a 12 year old troll wrote that? if you're going to keep trolling this forum yourself and abuse those that need help, you should probably bugger off, no?

Well at least youre talking decently now. Maybe next time you will know that people wont treat you seriously when you talk like an angry russian with a 5th grader's english. Using xD ^.^ -.- doesnt help either.
Oh and on the topic of your issue, if your payment got denied making a steam ticket describing the situation usually helps. They do take a few days to reply and afterwards they just take away whatever games got denied and unblock the account. And I think the account disabling is automated it wouldnt make sense for them to just sort through all of the accounts with denied payments and ban people seperatly so dont blame steam without valid reasons to believe its their fault.

well thank you for also being decent, much better. also my payment was accepted, well over a week ago, then for no reason, nor an email stating. I was suspended. I'm not outright blaming steam. i just believe that they went about it the wrong way, and with the slightest digging, they'd have read my previous ticket, noticed it was the same game, and possibly even just informed me via email.

that being said, with the kind people on here, i'm slightly more confident that steam will resolve this... eventually

I think the issue is in your approach. If he got the game and steam sold you the game. AKA you had the gift in you gift folder then I think what happened is your friend might have inadvertently messed you over and you fell for it. see once payments mad you have game. When you gift a game through steam you give the gift to your friend as soon as you click confirm. Sooo when you friend told you he didn't get game and you complained to steam you setup to look like you were trying to scam Steam. Not saying that you were but that's what it looks like. it'll get resolved most likely if you friend didn't activate his game after getting gift the same day he got it. if not the fault is in your buddy.

This is the most common people try to scam steam, funny thing is it never works, which is why your problem. Doubt ou have a log of your communication with you buddy eh?

Yeah... I don't think anyone (should) wants to store their credit card details on steam since the recent hacking news.

The issue is not the credit card but the fact that the user created a dispute for the payment. If the user waited or submitted a ticket to Steam to see what was going on, the entire situation could have been avoided.

i didn't make a paypal dispute. i made a steam support ticket. i cannot stress this enough! you're the third person to say i did that and it's my fault!

The wording in your original post seems to indicate that you created a dispute with Paypal, not Steam. While I realize that you're frustrated about this happening, it would definitely help if your original post was laid out better (punctuation, etc.).

However, back to the topic at hand, what did Steam say when you provided them with the Paypal information?

Edit: After reading what you said to jessej07, it still seems strange for Steam to revoke the gift, especially after you closed your ticket. Did they respond to you before you closed it?

they haven't responded at all. no message from the previous ticket. but then, it wasn't open for even a day. they still haven't responded to my current ticket, but i have print screened and submitted everything i could find that will help.

sorry for the bad punctuation and grammar. I was in a very bad mood, and wanted this to be sorted straight away.

Based on what you've said and the proof that you have, I'm sure it's something that can be worked out. As others have mentioned, it might just be that the suspension of the account is an automated process and they expect the end-user to contact them. Also, just to note, when dealing with support tickets, try not to update or add onto the ticket after submitting it unless necessary. In some cases, depending on the ticket system that they're using, it would lead to your ticket being viewed later than it originally would have been due to when the ticket was last updated. Older tickets typically get dealt with first.

Regardless, I hope you get it all sorted out as it seems like it was an error on Steam's side. As long as the money left your Paypal account and went into theirs, I see no reason for them to revoke the gift unless the money took an unusually long time to get sent to them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i didn't know about the later adding to the ticket, i did that, but only in the space of one hour, so it shouldn't make a big difference?

thank you very much for the help though, i'm sure you (and other helpful chaps) are right, and i'll be back online, gunning down stupid AI in no time! well not no time... a long time.. but still, soonish?

thanks :)

If you're adding helpful information to your ticket, it will still affect your ticket in terms of when it was last updated but, by providing useful information, it would result in one less back and forth reply from the support staff member which, in turn, leads to a quicker resolution.

It really all depends on how Steam Support deals with tickets. They can sort by when the ticket was first created, when it was last updated, whether or not there's been a reply, etc. I doubt you adding onto the ticket within an hour makes a huge difference but for people that don't receive replies after a day or two, it can definitely make a difference.

Document your case as much as you can (screenshots of the payment in Paypal, save any communications you have with Steam, etc) and explain to them what happened. Sounds like a lack of internal communication (they sent the gift you lost, but didn't link it to the payment you made earlier).

The weird things is considering all the Paypal horror stories I hear, I've called ebay on multiple occasions and they've been shockingly helpful and nice about everything.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It seems like a matter of luck, mostly. The few times I've had to contact Steam's customer support they've been very helpful as well, and I've never had any issues with Paypal. The people who have experienced genuine difficulties are in the minority, but sometimes those stories and the way they're handled by customer support are bad enough to give the rest of us pause.

Think of it like this: If only 0.1% of all users lose their money/games/accounts this way, that's still a LOT of people who get screwed over, even if the vast majority only has positive experiences.

Not saying that's what happened here, of course. This one here seems like a honest mistake. Stupid perhaps, but not really a sign of some greater flaw in the system. Just trying to put things into perspective a bit.

i understand that, and it probably is just an isolated incident. but why the fuck me? i'm good to steam, i think they could have been a bit more diplomatic about it? i mean, one thing i noticed, "Check the contact e-mail address for your Steam account to see if Steam Support has contacted you regarding the reason your account was suspended" NOPE, just cut me off, with no word or reason why!
i still wouldn't know if my mate hadn't got the revoked game message

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Statistically these incidents happen because on Steam's end 99.9999% of such cases are chargebacks due to

1) Compromised paypal accounts
2) Compromised cc accounts
3) Compromised Steam accounts

Thus the prudent approach is to suspend the account entirely while you figure the issue out. It's not optimal in the 0.0001% of cases like yourself, but again it makes sense for what they view is the most likely problem.

Do I have the order of events right?

  • Paid for game/gift through Paypal.

  • While being verified (on Steam's end), opened a claim with Paypal disputing the payment.

  • Steam verified the payment and sent the gift.

  • Steam received disputed charge and subsequently revoked your game/gift and Steam account.

If that's how it went down, it sounds right to me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you have the order right, but i've never had to wait more than 2 seconds for verification, so when it takes hours, and there's no evidence of my gift though i have been charged, i got concerned.

and on the second point, i opened a steam support ticket, not a paypal dispute. which i closed once my mate told me he finally got the gift

other than that, you are correct

Permalink

In that case I think you have a perfectly good reason to be annoyed. I made the assumption that you opened a Paypal dispute, which is something that no one should ever do if they want to keep their Steam account alive :)

Looks like you did everything fine, barring maybe any outdated payment options (funding Paypal) or maybe just lack of funds in the Paypal balance, and Valve will hopefully get it all sorted out with you during the week.

Too bad man!

Yea. I always just use my CC. It's faster and I'd not want a third party involved. Stuff like what happens with you might happen. Did you check your Paypal to make sure the payment went through correctly? I'd do that and get all the info you could from them to send to Valve to settle this problem asap. Also with Gift stuff like that, probably better to "gift" it to your own email so it's easier to work out if you get it or not and then send it to him? I've never done this so I might be very wrong.

Permalink

i have checked paypal, and the payment went through immediately, as it's supposed to. but for about an hour. i had nothing but my paypal receipt to show for it.

Also, regarding the gifting to myself first. i could just as easily leave it in the inventory until i KNOW i have it, couldn't I? also i don't really expect this kind of thing to happen.

thank you anyway for your help

I personally think using paysafecard is the best. it might be a little bit annoying sometime when you need to buy asap, but definitely it is the most safe method and if there is a problem, its easy to ask for a repair service or sth like that.

that's what the person i gifted to uses, and he says it's very safe etc. but in the UK, it's hard finding a place to purchase them. i've checked online, my closest location is around 30 miles away. that would also mean spending out train money to get one, it's not really worth it for someone in my position.

I had similar problem, it did not count the paymant (paypal) at first, then it did, but i did not resieved the game. After 3 hours i did resieved it, but it was not working becouse of " ID problem " ( almost sure becouse of that, i tryed nearly everything posible to run it). I wrote a ticket, 2 weeks later (today) I resieve answer where they just copy-pasted how to install the game, noone even looked at my ticket. However i also wrote Paypal and i expect refund.

Paypal is a disaster. I once opened an account and used my credit card through them for a purchase. Some time later, I tried to make another purchase. I couldn't log in. When I said which e-mail address I used to make the account, they said they didn't have that e-mail on file even though I had the receipt from the first transaction delivered to that account. I tried all of my other e-mail accounts and they had none on file. They said I could put in my phone number. I put in all of the phone numbers I could have possibly used. Nothing. Finally, I made a new account and when I tried to register the credit card, I got a message saying the credit card is on file. I jumped through hoops with the company and still every time I asked for assistance, all they'd say is "Log on to your original account." Even though, you know, THAT'S THE ENTIRE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. I never did get it resolved. My account wasn't stolen (or at least, I don't think so) because no strange charges were ever made on that credit card or on any other account that could have been linked to it.

tl;dr: Never use paypal again.
