Part 1

Once upon a time there was an adorable Kijib. He enjoyed using Valve’s steam service and the site steamgamesales.com. As a contributor, he was one of the first members of steamgifts.com.

“Wow,” he thought. “What a cool site! I think I’ll give away some spare humble bundles!”

And so he did.

Everything seemed well. Chances of winning were good due to low member count, and Kijib even won a game from the great Glapos.
But things changed.

To Kijib’s dismay, he came to observe that the people who were winning his bundles didn’t really want/play the games, and everyone was entering his giveaways just because they had so many points.

In fact, too often did Kijib see people win games and never actually enjoy them like someone else would have. Often winners of giveaways would play an hour of their game and be done with it, if at all. If points were so easy to get, there was no stopping someone from entering for a game that they thought looked sort of interesting, but really ended up disliking.

He had an idea.

Kijib figured that by requiring everyone who entered for the bundles to have at least one of the games in their wishlist, the people who actually wanted to win would have the best chance. This lead to a mixed reaction of haters and approvers.
Despite his efforts, Kijib soon realized no one read the description of the giveaway, which only maginified his belief that people didn’t care about what games they won but just wanted to greedily win free games.
Never one to back down, Kijib continued his rampage of making giveaways and then not sending them to the winner. Which lead to the horrible received rating he still has today.

Part 2

Kijib was no longer allowed to create giveaways.

“That’s OK,” he thought. “I’ll get that cleared up after I win another game. I’ll use my winning a game as an excuse to give back to the community, after the points system is revamped of course.”

But Kijib never won another game.
That’s when he realized in the last month, the site had tripled in members and giveaway winning odds were rapidly decreasing. Points were too easy to get, and no one seemed to care.

But Kijib was a visionary.

“I will complain and rant and suggest changes to the points system until people have the best chance to win the games they really want!” he proclaimed to his imaginary friends.
And he did.
Like ten times.

WTF Kijib?

Part 3

Kijib was utterly defeated. The site would never be like he wanted: super low points leading to low entries for the games people REALLY wanted to win.

The best chances to win are if you are in a gifters group, essentially making the site pay to win.

And then came a loop hole.

“What’s this? I can trade invites for games now?! Hmmmm…I could use this….”

Kijib had one last fight left in him.

“I will try trading and making tons of invites to the site for people’s extra games (mainly thinking cogs and portal).”

“Now I know people won’t offer much, but if it’s a cheap game I want then sure why not? I’m probably never gonna win another giveaway. Chances are too low on this site anyway.”

If people are actually willing to give me games (a fantastical dream) I can brag about it to everyone and show how easy it is to gather points and make invites.

“If people want to give me Portal and Cogs, I will stock pile them and give them away on the site to prove a point on how easy it was to generate all these invites. Maybe that will show people we get too many points. If not, the more people join the site, the sooner people will realize something must be done about points or else chances of winning will be so low it honestly won’t matter anymore.”

I just wanted to say it was worth it just seeing the angry reaction and rioting. Pretty hilarious!
So demand that I get banned, I don’t care anymore. Even though I have yet to trade any invites, I did this to try and prove a point. Just wanted to clear up any confusion.

I'm not as obsessed with winning games (but it would be nice come on the site is called steamgifts) as I am with how we need to give our gifts to the people who will enjoy them the most...

THE END

As much as I'm trying to stay out of this whole mess I just want to say that this post isn't needed. The last post that this topic came in was locked so I think it's clear that cg wants to move on from this choas and to stop the flame wars.

I've always said I disagree with your methods but respect your adherence to your ideas and vision of the site.

I may not like how you handled your giveaways, but then again I also don't like how some members here spammed forums with invites that led to an influx of a-holes.

For what it's worth, it's good to have you here since you contribute wholly in the ways that you can.

I agree with some of your ideas, I definitely think that the people who enter for giveaways should be people who actually intend to play the game.

As for the odds 'decreasing', that is true, but why is that a problem? Someone always wins the giveaway, shouldn't everyone have a fair chance? The only people who think the odds are too low are people who put themselves above others, and feel entitled to win many games for themselves

As cheesy as that sounded my cholesterol didn't go up so +1

Using invites to trade for tf2 items I guess seems maybe more than fair but if you can at least make it clear that ANYONE can make an invite if they're already in sg. We had this discussion before where you agreed that such things would be a bit unfair where the person getting the code would initially have very low odds of winning a game anyway. Idk, it just seems like they are paying for something that they may not be able to win for weeks.

Wait...I'm confused. You're pissed that private giveaways are turning the site into "pay to win" but you're totally okay with selling invites so people have to... Pay to win?

I have no issues with the rules on your giveaways, so I don't blame you for your poor rating.
I agree completely that points are too easy to come by and far too many people are winning games that they never end up playing.
I agree with low points = low entries and that being a positive change.

I do not agree that essentially taking bribes to get into the site whatever your claimed reasoning is a good thing for the site.

Now I wish cg would clarify whether this is allowed now.

In other news Kijib is no longer an adorable Kijib. He's now just a regular Kijib. :( Possibly an edible one.

If not, the more people join the site, the sooner people will realize something must be done about points or else chances of winning will be so low it honestly won’t matter anymore.”

Which is basically saying that you wanted to sabotage the site.

I don't know why he wasn't banned in the first place for having such a low feedback score. I guess the rules weren't in place then.

But It's not cool that his score is now changed, it looks like he actually gave people gifts when he didn't. And Humble Bundles too ffs

He didn't deliver some giveaways because whoever won them didn't do as the descriptions said, where he stated that the winner would only receive his prize if said winner had one of the games from the bundle on his wishlist.

His low feedback score isn't because of his incompetence. Hence why he isn't banned yet, and why said giveaways were removed. The community caused his low % score, not him.

"where he stated that the winner would only receive his prize if said winner had one of the games from the bundle on his wishlist."

I see this as complete BS. I only use my wishlist for the Steam grand prizes. I LOVE playing games and you would be hard pressed to find a game I don't want to play. I tend to stay away from the comment pages of giveaways because there is absolutely no valuable discussion in them. Some of the descriptions for giveaways almost seem like advertisements too...

Sure, you may not agree to his conditions and bitch at him for that (I was too at first, but its HIS game that hes giving away FOR FREE, so its his right to put whatever conditions he wants, as long as CG agreed (and he did)), but stop bitching at him for his low %. Its the greedy and idiot users fault that couldnt even read 2 friggin lines in the description, not his. Jesus, if people dont hate on someone they aint happy anymore.

"Kijib was no longer allowed to create giveaways."

"If people want to give me Portal and Cogs, I will stock pile them and give them away on the site..."

How in the hell did you plan on doing this if the above statement is true?

Also, "I will stock pile them and give them away on the site to prove a point on how easy it was to generate all these invites." I don't see how the two are related in any way. Just how is that proving a point about invites? And you also say, "I'm not as obsessed with winning games." Then why are you so hell bent on getting rid of private giveaway groups and keeping people from joining the site? Are you more entitled to winning games than new members?

It also seems all of your suggested "improvements" were always geared toward winning more games or increasing chances, which coincidentally, you would have realized would not work if you understood how probability works.

You have only been here 4 damn weeks... Why are you getting frustrated? Do you feel entitled to free things?

I just don't understand why people get frustrated for not winning something that cost them nothing to get a chance to win... Are you any worse off after entering a giveaway and not winning? Christ you have even won 3 games since you have been here...
