A giveaway of mine ended yesterday, and I went to add them today and I noticed THEY sent ME an invite. I don't know about others, but I find that extremely disrespectful. It's almost like him saying "Give me my game, now!". Was going to send it today but now I think ill wait a few days.

Anyone else had this happen?

Edit: LMFAO funny how the majority of people who think I'm complaining too much about it, have given away 0 games.

Be more tolerant IMO. Different Cultures have often different Etiquette rules. And last time I checked, this is an international community. Of course it's still up to your own judgement, just don't be TOO quick to judge others. That said, thanks for the giveaway? :D

I don't think cultural etiquette really applies to online etiquette that much. Netiquette works on a really different set of ideas and rules than things out there in real life.

Maybe he means: EX: you live in Australia, I live in Argentina (~12h dif) I wake up open steam, add and then I cant check it for the next few days or so, by adding you can already send the gift while me not having to be online and/or taking a huge time to respond.

I wouldn't consider it disrespectful honestly. I'd see it as them making it easier for me to send the gift, better this than the guy who gives you a bogus email address and pretends he never received the gift.

Maybe he's just excited he's won...

I've seen a bunch of giveaways that say "you add me" in the description, so unless it specifically says "I will add you," I think its a bit presumptuous to assume that its disrespectful.

I disagree that it's disrespectful to add you when they've won a game. As long as they don't rush you in any way, it's fine. For example, if someone adds you and, when you accept, they say "Hello, I won that awesome giveaway you made!", that's cool. Then it's up to you to give them the game right away or to tell them to wait until you have free time. It's up to them to be patient. On the other hand, if someone opens the conversation with a trade request, I'd consider that rude.

I can see after maybe 3-4 days, not within 24 hours (giveaway ended 22 hours ago, I couldn't check steam until now so I don't know when he added me, could have been minutes after)

I'am only sending invites after 7 days to ask if he/she haven't forgot a gift

I actually think it's disrespectful when they have to add me when I've won, to be honest. I just feel spoiled.

I see it like this too, if you win the least you can do is contact the guy so he doesn't have to chase you...

Same, I wanted to thank the person for my gift (cause it was my first win and I didn't know that the person has to add you as a friend to gift) so I tried to add the person, to my avail he never responded, but when I got the gift I was able to properly thank them :X

Might be in a hurry to trade the game immediately on steamtrades or something.

If you're really that bothered, ask for a re-roll.

I don't think they can ask for a reroll just because he's "really that bothered". The winner didn't breaj any rule by adding the gifter.

And, you're just assuming without any base thet he'll trade the game.

I dont think this is the result of someone being disrespectful...Maybe they are damn excited, as I was and still am when I win, and want their game because maybe they wished for it since a very long time!

They were probably just really excited that they won. There is a certain site where people can raffle off TF2 items. It's actually considered normal etiquette for the winners to add the giver and "claim" their prizes. As long as he or she was friendly and not rude, I wouldn't read too much into it.

I would double check and make sure the person adding you is actually the same steam profile as the winner listed by steamgifts and not an impersonator. That would be my only concern.

Dude, are you serious! How could you be that picky and easily offended? Did the winner say "Give me my game, now!". Maybe the guy just wanted to save you the "hassle" of finding him, or was excited to win and wanted to play the game as soon as possible. Nobody forces you to gift games, if you think that the winners are douchbags interested it themselves only.

I won 2 games here, each time I was caught off guard and not expecting to win and just saw the invite or got the chat that I won and was surprised.

In my case, I just wait. Unless it's someone like Cross. Then I just demand the game.

Shouldn't you find out why he added you before getting annoyed?

If he added just to say "give me my game, now!" then yes, be irritated. It wouldn't be particularly strange if he merely wanted to thank you however. You have 37 received gifts, so he can be comfortably certain he will receive the game so there isn't any real need for him to wait to receive it before thanking you.

I personally add someone when it says they are online on steam, and it has been many hours since the giveaway ended. You know how long you set the giveaway for, you know you now have to give the game to someone. So, if you aren't currently playing a game, why not just gift the game and get it over with, let THEM be the ones the system has to track to see if they report receiving the gift, not you for not sending it. I won a giveaway, it's been quite a few hours, and the dude has been online and been playing games. Why wouldn't I add him to check to see if he has even bothered to check SG to see who the winner is? Personally, if you find it disrespectful for someone else to initiate a conversation/exchange, what are you doing 'gifting' games in the first place? Do you jump down someones throat when they say hello first? Do you get offended when the cashier tells you the final price before you can hand them the money?
