No, that'd be because noone mentioned it to sg staff so they could manually fix it, or because they haven't had time to do it.

Officially, it should have its last-listed price as its SG value :)

I reported the issue twice. 5 and 3 months ago. Both issues are marked as "resolved" with a comment like "it is in the admin's queue, no idea about ETA" attached to it. Last reply was 3 weeks ago after I bumped it... and it still gives 0P.

Right. Meaning you're no longer really getting the 0p due to it being off steam, but due to SG's backlog on updating things,
Sorry, was just working off the implication of your initial phrasing. There's nothing we can now but wait on it. :X

This happens when a game still has a store page, but is no longer being sold. Steam reports a value of 0. It still reports a value, which is, I guess, why no manual CV is set to it. Adding back games is something that the staff, in my experience, tend to be quite fast at doing, just not for games that still has a value.

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, versus being removed entirely?
That makes sense, that lines up to the speed of their responses to my own reports- they've been blazingly fast on removed, but've basically ignored still-with-store-page reports.

Thanks for the clarification. :)

I guess that means that the SG system doesn't have the ability to override the values fed to it by the Steam API, or, because values are still being fed to SG by the Steam API, even a zero or null amount, the SG procedures require them to wait to override, in the event that a game may be re-enabled for sale. As long as a page is still there in the Steam store, we're screwed.

Only Mafia 2, if you want the first game you'll probably have to sell an am, a leg your soul and you firstborn for one of the like four gift copies left on the market.

I was trying to be witty and say something along 'or an offer which you can't refuse' but Mafia != Godfather.

My main regret on Mafia 2 was that I did not buy the one story dlc (Joe's adventures) which wasn't sold in Eu (at least this part) / Usa. Now it will be kind of pain to find and the price will be high.

Good luck finding a Steam key for Mafia 1. If you do, unless it costs 500 dollars, it'll be a fake. At least the ancient CD edition still goes for reasonable prices.

It was the first larger game that got removed from Steam and got really famous for it. It snowballed eventually. There are a few other games with quite expensive Steam keys like Prey, but not really to this extent.

Luckily, have that as well hahaha

Prey isn't really that bad, I think you can find copies for 10 - 15 keys, where as Mafia 1 will see you paying 150 - 200 keys easily, and even then you have a good chance of getting robbed...

It adds a new skin, a new voice for the main character, and more rubber bands than the original scholarship edition! =O

Actually, who am I kidding-
Playing that game dressed as, and speaking like a Godfather would be pretty darn entertaining.

Screw those rubber bands, though. -.-

possibly Mafia 1, since they would only need to re license a few songs, where as Mafia 2 would require getting the license for the music and the playboy license. which would probably be pretty costly..

Permalink

With the financial troubles of Playboy, that would either be really cheap or unreasonably expensive…

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm going to go with 2k not really wanting to pay to renew the license at all. Which explains why they just let it go.. not worth the price when you'll only sell a handful of additional copies. Anyone who wanted the game already purchased it a while ago, the only copies being sold now were at greatly reduced price or inside bundles.

Although I suspect with how legendary Mafia 1 has become, getting it back on steam for another few years would probably see them generate a few hundred thousand additional sales. might actually be worth it from a marketing standpoint, especially considering the songs in that game weren't really your chart topping hear it on the oldies daily type music. I can't even imagine any of them costing more than a few hundred bucks to reup the license.

I'm curious if Dead Pool's success will see any other removed games brought back..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think the then-upcoming film contributed a lot more in the enthusiasm to put it back on Steam than anything else.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah you're right the film is the reason why dead pool was brought back, but IIRC dead pool sold really well, which could give incentive to other developers to re-release other much sought after removed games. Especially in the case of a game like Mafia 1, which is selling for hundreds of dollars..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh gods, if they really would bring Mafia 1 back, there could be so many speculants losing so much money if they were sitting on unused keys deliberately. (Although I doubt that in reality there are many keys left.) And they'd make so much money on people flocking to buy a gift copy thinking it might worth more later…

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sure the same thing happened with Deadpool, had people sitting on keys and gifts hoping to drive the price higher from the already high 50 key price, Then it re-released and those keys became worth next to nothing.. You are right, if the game re-released I'm sure it would sell like hotcakes.. I certainly know I'd buy a copy..

Maybe we can hope for 2k to release it for those that pre-order mafia 3, like they did with Mafia 1... doubtful but you never know..

They lost license for tracks. Don't worry though, since Mafia 3 is coming out soon we can expect them back. Also It's good time to sell those collectors gift copies of original mafia which was gone long time ago but I expect it too return somewhere close to M3 release.

Comment has been collapsed.

Which is insane considering that Mafia 1's OST was made of songs practically nobody ever plays on radio, not even the very oldies stations. They could easily be in public domain if not for the usual "business practise" of record labels. (I swear they are worse than book/comic publishers.)

Comment has been collapsed.

Well… is anyone of them even alive still? We are talking about music made in the 1910s to '30s. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if a number of them would be in public domain if the old law of "50 years after the creator's death or 80 years after creation" would be in effect.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Although a quick Google search can be difficult, it often helps from looking foolish by making false statements.

About half of it was done by modern bands while the older stuff still retains rights. Most of the older artists only passed away in the 70s although that is irrelevant. Any sound recording created by 1972 in the USA is protected until 2067 unless put in public domain by the creator while anything after 1972 holds copyright for 95 years.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, but the copyright law wasn't like this: they have expanded it retroactively at least twice in the last century. I was looking into it when digging in comics history; Superman could have been in public domain by now with the original laws.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sound recordings were not included in any copyright act until 1976 and have had the same rules since then.

Keep in mind, that even if the music and lyrics to a song are public domain, that does not make the sound recordings of the song public domain.

Permalink

I wish the would release both of them again,i am still boggled as to why the store page is up for Mafia II,only thing i can come up with is III will replace it.I can only assume it was removed for licensing issues, but why remove the dlc also? good thing i bought before then.

This is the one thing i hate about digital,it is nice and all but so much easier to lose access to a game, there is only 2 ways to get it now, through cd or i will not mention the other.Though that only because the game had a cd versin before hand,if the game is digital only and is removed from Steam store there will be only one way to get the game,or none if it uses Denuvo and has not be cracked.

Valve seems to leave store pages up now for some removed games. This way at least the reviews and general information can stay. I'm happy with that, especially since this way even removed games remain review-able.

lol I had high hopes for it,but after the reveal i will not be getting this until a good discount.

Granted it still a Mafia/Mob type game..

But at its core i think for me playing Mafia without it being more like 1&2 or say the Godfather movie....it just not the same...also this whole revenge thing and him taking on the whole Mafia and so forth just does not do it for me.Seems this time they mainstreamed it with over the top effects.

I wanted to continue with 2 and find out what happen to Vito and his best friend, who most would conclude he was killed but really do not know for sure, and would like to have seen what happen to Vito as he got older and so on,it would have been a nice end to a pretty good story, maybe could have made him a Don or something.Or maybe he gets killed later and ends his legacy but now he just kinda throwing in with the new one.

Also a black guy to boot, when someone like Vito i would think would have never had anything to do with black people when it comes to joining him.Vito had the smarts to run his own crew.

But i guess we get what we get now with III lol

Just a quick edit i do not want anyone to think i have a issue with the black person, just for this role and type of game i do think it is a bit out of place.

Well i always did regardless even back then,it was just easier then always having to have the game disc in,but the last few years have proven that DRM is not a sales killer and more of a FU to paying people.

But yeah i remember first time i saw my friend play Sim City 2000 without the cd and i was like how did you do that, though he would not tell me,like it was some kind of magic lol.So i went home and found out for myself.

I do not mind most DRM,even though i am against any,but i do not like Denuvo just because it can not be cracked, and while i have internet now, there is no promise of having in the future, you just never know. That being said without it i would have no way to play the games i bought that use it if can not do its checks or what not with internet..Me being disabled and limited income it not always a given that i will have internet, for now it not an issue as long as nothing changes.

Starforce and Securom if you ask me are to of the worse as far as doing more harm then good
