Groupees

Groupees is selling keys without developers permission, buy their bundles at your own risk.

You can read more about this topic here or in the comments from this thread.

After some further investigation, as of 04 Apr 2023, Groupees is now banned from /r/GameDeals.
Many thanks to the user who brought this issue to their attention.

Until they start releasing real bundles (and not ones featuring only keys sourced from the grey markets), I will not open or maintain any Groupees related threads.
Feel free to report them here though, or even open threads for them.

do people buy these bundles - i mean i looked at what's on offer and it's way over price compared to where you can get most of them before this

Typically if you buy the max tier you can get a pretty decent discount most times. However, some games are not going to be worth it in the bundle no matter what.

don't get me wrong their are a few games i'd like but for the top teir amount that's almost the same as 3 month's of humble - so....?

That's why the prices on gray markets remain high for games in these bundles; you have to find 7 games you actually want to buy for it to actually make sense. The easiest way to make it work is to have a few friends who all want different games, and split the bundle so you get the minimum price.

I'm not sure how Humble treats BYOBs now that it doesn't show under bundles, yet I found a new one on a different site:
Strategy BYOB

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

We don't usually report these (or make threads for them) since they are not considered bundles (despite the name). They're simply store deals (the URL shows it too) and they occur very often.
A deal is considered a "bundle" when the discount is 95% or more, but we often add bundles that have >= 90% discount; 85% is too little.
Also with these store deals it's pretty difficult to present a correct info about the contents since HB delivers all sorts of crazy packages; besides, few people seem to buy them.

OK, that makes sense.
Fanatical certainly has a clearer pricing solution for BYOBs. I agree they 're usually not that great, still I mentioned this one as I think it has the all time low for AoE III Definitive Edition. By adding only the cheapest options it goes all the way down to €4.68 while ggdeals lists it at 7,04€
If not for this particular title I wouldn't be bothering to mention it as well

No complaint but I would like to see threads covering Humble's BYOBs. And I use them way more frequently than Fanatical's version.
I'm pretty satisfied with what I got from this one. Three games and two missing DLC for €8.42.

Exactly, Fanatical ones often rebundle games from higher tiers for much lower discount than in the initial bundle, here we got something new, so this was actually a nice discovery for me as well. But to be fair I must admit I've also seen such bundles on Humble where there was nothing new, and most of the titles were available cheaper in the past. BYOBs generally are a mixed thing.

Fanatical has a specific per-game pricing though, so their build your bundle offers are more palatable as bundles, and you'll also find them @ Group Buys often.
Look how painful this is by comparison, you have to come up with prices for each choice: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/groupbuys/discussions/14/3186863876572810274/

It wouldn't be necessary to make a detailed list of the prices, especially now with multiple stages for the Choice discount.

But it also wouldn't be too complicated. The full price gets fetched from the Steam store, a simple spreadsheet could do multiplications of these full prices with x0.15x0.8 to calculate the best possible price for each game.

I tried to explain here some things that make it very complicated, despite this apparently being an easy task.

Back in the day I was pretty vocal against Rachel's charts (who needs it lol, I can check them in the store one by one anyway) but I have to say that a chart is a godsend and I really value it for a good while.

Ease of checking if anything is owned/ignored on steam, review score and direct links to the store is a huge additional value. As it turned out, most of the games that looked interesting in the bundle have mixed or worse reviews, but Humble doesn't show that. Nor offer direct, to-Steam links.

I'm aware anyone can make a basic chart for the "bundle", it doesn't have to be Lilly, as anyone can post deals on the subreddit. Also, maybe Humble deserves the loss of sales because of how clunky is to check the BYOB page.

I know this sounds quite like SOMEONE DO THIS WORK. It's just that on this site there was a "bundle posting person" since I remember. Them not recognizing a deal with bundle in its name may have the unintentional effect of the deal feeling unworthy, or that it is not allowed to be posted. This is the main reason I wanted to chime in a bit, I totally understand Lilly's reasoning.
I'll try to look into Lex's chart maker

I don't want to discourage anyone, but these kind of threads usually take around 2h to make (initially when posted), plus extra time spent on updating them during the following days, based on people's posts. That is, if one really wants to display the most accurate information regarding the actual content.

You might wonder what is it that takes so much time? Well:

  • subs that are not sold on the store and have to be dug up from SteamDB when there are 70 packages containing that game / several with the same name and ultimately not being able to provide a correct SubID when multiple such packages qualify
  • region locks that can't be displayed in the OP because few people buy these deals and because Humble Bundle doesn't publicly share the region locks for store purchases; it's already very difficult to make sense of the region locks for the regular Humble Bundles, but the store deals provide literally no info about the locks unless someone buys that game and clicks the gift link notification prior to revealing the key
  • not knowing exactly if a package is delivered as 1 key or multiple (anything can be possible with Humble Bundle, and they don't share this info)
  • manually adjusting the CV depending on the game - Lex's Chart maker sets everything at a default 15%, and each of the games would have to be manually checked to see what their actual CV on SG is
  • manually adding a price column for 85% discounts if needed, and of course calculating it in dollars regardless of your Humble account currency
  • manually setting the games to out of stock and then reverting this change when they are back in stock; this happens a lot with store deals
  • perhaps also manually correcting ITAD links (their naming sometimes differs)

Yes I use automated tools, but they can do only that much even if they're coded in their best form. There are a ton of things that one has to manually update / check for every thread.

For me, having to spend 2h for a store sale that lasts a few days is more than I can afford on top of the many hours that I already spend maintaining the non-store bundle deals, therefore I won't be dealing with such threads for the time being. I am fully aware that they might be interesting for some, but from my point of view, the time expense is not justifiable for the amount of attention that these kind of sales have.

(I think I've never seen a BYOB under bundles on Humble? It was always a Humble Store thing?)

I suppose everyone's very much invited to make threads for these in the Deals forum, but be aware that getting multi-currency pricing and formatting it nicely is bound to be a ton of work for something that only lasts a few days.
Similarly, "neat stuff on sale on Steam this week" isn't a wrong idea for threads either. It's just not something sensualshakti is interested in maintaining / attempting. For one, you can imagine posting a chart for "all the currencies" isn't practical.

Now I feel I must apologise, for posting in the first place.
It was never my intention to encourage anybody to start a new thread, prepare a chart etc. I just wanted to share the info that a new deal is available and felt that posting in this thread was a better option than starting a new one if there's no way to clearly describe the bundle due to convoluted pricing rules.

As stated here the bundle just felt good enough to deserve a mention if anybody else was interested
