I made myself a peanut butter & jelly sandwich for lunch today. A little while later, my sister decided she wanted one as well. As she was making her sandwich, she yelled out "Why is there peanut butter in the jelly?!" The answer is that I use the same knife for both containers -- once I'm done spreading the peanut butter, I use the same knife to scoop and spread the jelly. Of course a small amount of peanut butter gets into the jelly container.

According to her, this is a crime against humanity. She says that one must use a spoon to get the jelly out of its jar, to avoid the hideous possibility of cross-contamination.

So now I am curious: how do you make a PB&J?

But if you use a spoon too, you're just getting extra dishes dirty.

There are a surprising number of songs related to peanut butter & jelly!

Jelly is jam? Would not like them together, but honestly, I just use a tissue (clean) inbetween using butter and my choice of spread (usually vegemite). Really hate finding other people's meals in my spreads or butter :)

Eh people worry too much, I just wipe the knife off on the bread the best I can or scrape the peanut butter off on the rim of the peanut butter jar. There's usually not much left and if there is any residue in the jelly I can usually scrape it out and use it.

You spread peanut butter on both slices and put the jelly in the middle. it keeps the bread from soaking up the jelly and becoming soggy.

I use one side of a sandwich knife for the pb and the other for the j.

No, jelly goes with ice cream and nothing else. Pervert.

Peanut butter isn't really a thing where I live, the equivalent here would be regular butter and jelly/jam (or honey), using separate utensils to prevent cross-contamination is especially important with something as perishable as butter.

Not a big fan of PB&J, but I eat peanut butter by the spoonful. :-)

And yes, I use a clean spoon everytime! :-)

I put the peanut butter on my slice of bread, lick off the remaining peanut butter from the knife, quickly rinse it in the sink and then use that knife for the jelly. Repeat licking and rinsing, then putting back knife to where it belongs. Cross-contamination is a crime against humanity.
