i do the same thing, except some of them have changed their names so many times that i dont know who they are anymore, so cant even nickname them. i also remove as many as i can that have been vac-banned (last time i checked there were 4 or 5 of them that had pretty recently been vac banned and i removed; disappointing) and unless they were a good friend, if they havent signed on for over a year.

I added a few traders about 4 months ago. So I nicknamed them based on the games I bought from them.(Dark Souls Man, Bundle Guy etc)
To my surprise, I found out that Bundle Guy unfriended me this week.
After the trade we never interacted, but it was saddening to get unfriended after being "friends " for so long.
Did the 4 months of constant status popups meant nothing to them?

I use that with almost everybody in my list, because even if only a few change their nicknames and avatars on a regular basis, I like to have the same layout for everybody. Even my girlfriend is thus nicknamed in the [FirstName "Nickname" Surname] way.
The only problem is that since I'm playing CS:GO, many people add me and I sometimes don't know their surname, so I can't tag the properly. I just couldn't use only nicknames, I hate to use those when I'm talking to people on TeamSpeak or Mumble, this just sounds fake to me if it's not the first time we are playing together (unless it's a "real life" nickname of course).

Only traders, I nickname them why I added them (for what game)

I nickname the people I know IRL since we always change our steam names. Other than that I don't nickname people.

I do have a couple of nicknames to some persons who tend to change Pic and name all the time but my friend list is small so I kinda remember all of them. To traders I add a Trusted, Trusted +, Trusted ++ etc. Depending on how friendly and smooth the transaction was.

I nickname the people I know IRL so i can easily find them, and use the field to add note about a few people.
Other than that I simply use tags to put people in categories. (Traders, Steamgifts, ...)

Excuse me, my address is Under the Rock 744/45, Dark Cave, my newsletter probably got lost, no one told me I can nickname someone. Or is it bright new feature?! slowpoke
Could've saved a few guys who thought it would be funny to become "xxX-BrutalDeadDeathOfDeadDeath-Xxx" but that's life...

I have good amount of friends, and most of them, I don't remember who, so this month, I started putting nickname, specially because some of them change their username. What about you, do you add nickname to your steam friends? if not, do you think this is a good idea?

most of my steam friends are unknown to me, because i forget them. I might end up removing them until we find a game we can play together
whats your thought on this?
