Basically i will be going out of town for couple days , so i was curious if there is any way to install bunch of the shitty RPG Maker games i have piled up on the pc i should be using for work there >.>
Problem is there is no internet there ...

Obviously already tried to find a torrent of them ( dont judge ) but they are so bad appearently that there are no torrents for them on piratebay >.>

So yeah ... any help is welcomed :)

Edit: Thanks so much for everyone who took their time to look into my issue .
I suggest to everyone who have that issue in future and stumble upon this topic to check THIS list Credit to Saucisse and MANotorer .

Also check if the game does add a steam_api file when installed , since it seems all games that does not do that just run without starting steam ... so basically once you install them you dont need steam .

you can install them, and always play offline
"most" games have that feature. usually no outside DRM means you can play offline

Yes, it can be done. You will need to have Steam on the new terminal, but installing on Attached Storage is the same as installing on a local drive.

USB? Pretty sure you can have steam check for games in a new folder.

Some games can be played offline, but you have to download/install them, first. I suggest you do that before you leave your connection behind you. If you have doubts about whether or not a game may be played offline, just disconnect and try it.

The only flaw I see is if there's no Steam on the new PC. With no internet, how do you get that installed?

You can try Steam offline mode. I've never tried it, but it should let you play single player games you downloaded from Steam offline.

I'm assuming these are games you found on Steam, since you can just play the game if it's like from GOG

I'm afraid I'm a little busy now to be of much help, but a quick Google search reaped me this which could be helpful:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/29muua/transferring_steam_games_from_laptop_to/

TLDR: copy the files and hope they don't use Steam DRM, which should be the case if they are crappy RPG maker games

Steam DRM won't prevent you from playing the game if you activate the client in offline mode.
That being said, you still need to access your account on said PC at least once though.

You have the option of creating backup of the game files [on cd/usb] so you won't have to download them again.
right-click game --> properties --> local files tab --> backup game files.

You still need Steam on the PC to access your account at least once - use offline option afterwards.

Due to DRM you can't download install files and install later without internet connection, only option is preinstall and in some cases maybe you can just copy it on some kind flash drive and cd, and just paste into new pc and it could work, but it depends on the game I guess

Not every Steam game has DRM, but you do need to have Steam installed on the machine and able to connect to download and install the games. After you install them, you (usually) need to run the game at least once before trying to use offline mode. The majority of games won't work if you install them on one machine and copy them over to another. You could, possibly, set up a flash drive or something as a boot drive with its own operating system, install Steam and all that as above, and then take that drive and plug it into your "work" machine and boot from it. However, that has a lot of potential pitfalls to it like having the right drivers, the USB port being fast enough to load from efficiently, and so on.

Adding another reply instead of editing, since you might not see it otherwise... You're probably best off just slapping some freeware games onto a flash drive and going with that. There are shitloads of great free games out there. Lots of roguelikes, indies of all kinds, old games that have been made free, etc.

I have no idea if this will work, but you could try Steam's function to "backup game files" (right click on an installed game's name and it's in the menu), and then import that backup on the other PC.

still sadly requires internet to start the restore process. (it goes online to insure you own proper licensing for the product)

There are DRM-free games on Steam, which you can move via a flash drive just by copying the folder with the game. There are lists of these games like this one (I have no idea how complete it is).

Quote from the link (concerning the fact that you don't need to install the game on the target machine and can just move it there via an external drive):

This is a list of games and software available on Steam that do not use any third party DRM (e.g GFWL, Uplay, Denuvo, etc.) or the Valve CEG ("Custom Executable Generation") component, making them effectively Launcher-free once installed. This means that you can copy the game folder anywhere you want and launch the .exe program directly without being online or having Steam or a third party software running.

At the top is a description how to test if a game can be started/played without Steam.
If it can just copy the game folder and you can play it on the other PC without need for Steam/internet.

Edit:
well i guess i was too slow :D

gog or humble library drm free games are prob your best bet to get by until you get internet again. i don't think there's a solution for after internet is already lost, only a way to set it up to go in offline mode after it's already installed.

Yeah i googled stuff for about 30 minutes , and all i found is you are screwed if you cannot at least install steam .
ITs easy to just install the stuff on some portable device . Eg a flash drive , but you still seem to need steam client to run them afterwards :|

There does seem to be some games that dont seem to care if steam is installed or not tho , so im browsing trough the list right now .

yeah if you have steam access on the internet somewhere else then finding drm free games inside of steam and tossing the files on a pendrive certainly could work too for several titles. ^^

there is also a trick about adding a steam_appid.txt with the associated appid inside the txt file to make certain games turn into a drm-free version. (edit: i just realized that wiki link above has this info, that's a good page i forgot about)

I tested what someone suggested bellow and just installed couple of them .
After i isntaled it i moved it to a flash drive , and then uninstalled it from the pc ... Then i just started the game from the flash and it does seem to be working fine .
so as long as the game doesnt try to run the steam client after being installed , its pretty much a DRM free copy .

I random tested 2 RPG maker games.
One is DRM free and another using steam DRM, and it's folder contained some file with steam filename.
I think you can install all candidates and check if there is a file called "steam_api" in their install folder.
A RPG maker game without steam_api file is high possible DRM free and can move to anywhere after download.

I play a lot of games offline as I sometimes look after properties that my aunt is renovating for holiday lets - but I usually take my computer with me. Are the games linux compatible? If they are low spec games then maybe some kind of bootable linux/steam install on an SD card that you can take with you?

Comment has been collapsed.

There doesnt seem to be any form of Steam installer sadly . At least i failed miserably at finding one.

Luckly RPGMaker games seem to turn into a pretty much DRM Free game once installed , so i just copy the install folder and take them all onto a flash .

I meant you install a bootable OS on some form of USB device and install Steam on that while you are at home with the internet and then take the whole thing with you and boot from USB on the computer in your shack and open your pre-installed Steam in offline mode. I've done similar things before for reasons and it worked. Sort of.

But if you have a solution to the problem then no worries - enjoy your shack and RPGs!

I agree with finding DRM free games from GoG, Humble or even itch.io and taking the installer. (I recommend Momodora 1 and 2 from Itch.io)
Alternatively you could even take an emulator and some ROMs for good old RPGs.

I would recommend "Sactum" the first one, its amazing and it doesnt need connection, ofc u have to download it before going out.
I kinda finished the game and all the achievements when I wasnt at my parents house and when I came back to net, it even synced the achievements on steam, Totally gg.

Set Steam into offline mode then copy your whole Steam folder and games onto an usb drive, 16-32gb will easily hold dozen+ rpgm games.

Download then while you have internet and just copy your steam folder to anywhere. Or if you have steam already installed there: just copy steamapps and depotcache folder. And if Steam still gives you problems, use a steam emu, like smart steam emu or ALI213/3DM emu.

If you right-click on a game in your Steam library (or go to its properties) there is an option to "backup game files". You can then restore from this later without being online I believe. Unless you can install the Steam client (and update it?) at your work location I'm not sure it would matter though. I would imagine that you would have to be able to log in first as well before being able to go into offline mode. And then there's the potential issue of Steam Guard too?? ehhhh, so many pitfalls....

DRM-free games FTW

I would suggest Battle for Wesnoth if you don't already know it. It's a turn based strategy game with a fantasy theme. It's open-source and you can download it for free. It's a very, very good game, there are several single player campaigns, they will take you way more than a couple days :D

You can make a backup but additional programs, drivers and framework-stuff can be missing.
Try something from GOG, loots of good games were free there, and added through GOG connect.
Also check your HB library, many games come with a DRM-free copy, these all should work without any problem.

I successfully did this last year by manually placing a copy of the game folder into the appropriate Steam subfolder. Then in Steam I verified the integrity of the game cache and it "installed." I did need to connect to steam momentarily to log into my account, for which I used my phone as a hotspot. I don't think you need to do that if the computer has previously logged onto your account.
