Oh boy. I was warned about the movie and I had seen Mary & Max so i kinda knew what was in store but I wasn't prepared for how hard it would hit me straight in the feels. I had something in my eye for most of the movie and I may get pink eye from all the water shed trying to get it out.
Maybe it's because I am a twin and the movie struck a cord deep in my shared heart but I loved it even more than Mary & Max, and that's saying something.
Even if you don't have a twin (poor you) you definitely should watch this if you like animation that's not for children and dark comedies with a soul.

The Peanut Butter Solution (1985)
Canadian family fantasy adventure film. It's about a kid who loses all of his hair when he gets a fright and uses a potion where the main ingredient is peanut butter to get his hair back but it works a bit too well. I never heard of this one until I stumbled across it a few days ago. But I guess if you're Canadian and of a certain age you'd be all too familiar with it (and the whole series of children's movies this is apparently part of). So I think it's good, maybe a bit on the darker side for a children's movie (given that homeless people dying in a fire, kidnapping children and putting them to work are big themes of it), but I'm sure I would've enjoyed it if I watched it as a child. But as a guy in his 30s I enjoyed it, too. Can recommend.

The Damned United (2009)
British sports drama film. It's about Brian Clough's ill-fated tenure as football manager of Leeds United in 1974. I know precious little about Leeds United and about British football in the 70s, but this movie was nonetheless very interesting for a football fan. If you don't care about it at all, you might not enjoy this, so I'm glad I do and did. Very good cast (Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent, Colm Meaney, Stephen Graham and more). Overall I thought this was really good and very entertaining. Can recommend.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (2023)
Japanese action comedy horror film. It's about a young worker who is bullied and worked around the clock, before a zombie outbreak finally makes him feel alive. I've read that this is based on an anime series, which in turn is based on a manga, so I guess either of those might be better, because this one wasn't all that good. Sure, I can't deny that I was entertained but it just doesn't bring anything new to the table, doesn't do the stuff it does as good as other similar movies, has a weak third act and is also a bit too long for what it is at over 2 hours. The only things about this that I can say were well done were the commentary on Japanese work culture (to the point where our protagonist is really happy that he doesn't need to go to work tomorrow because of the zombie outbreak) and the walking zombie shark which was an interesting concept. Overall I can't really recommend it, though.

I loved it. The anime was better, though. Shame it won't get a second season.

High School High (1996)
American parody comedy film. It's about a naive, mild-mannered prep school teacher who wants to help the underachieving students of a inner city high school. I enjoyed this. It nicely parodies other movies with a plot like that. Some good gags, visual and otherwise, for example the fact that only the 6 main students of the movie graduate in the end. Good cast (Jon Lovitz, Tia Carrere, Mekhi Phifer, Louise Fletcher, John Neville and more). Overall I thought this was very entertaining, so I can recommend it.

A Minecraft Movie, I went expecting nothing and was still disappointed sadly, all it had going for it was humor and even that wasn't that good, there were maybe 6 or 7 funny moments overall, a few of them weren't even intended as jokes.
That being said, I can still see how children would love it.

I saw it with my nephews and even they were kinda meh by the whole thing. Feels like it's just too immature and simplistic for adults and just too complicated and slow for children. My niece fell asleep somewhere between the long Jack Black prologue (that felt like a discarded draft for the movie summarized in 10 mn) and the moment where they all actually end up in the game world.

The Commitments (1991)
Irish-British-American musical comedy-drama film. It's about a young Irish music fanatic who assembles a group of working-class youths to form a soul band. This is surprisingly good. Great music, an interesting cast (even though I only recognize Colm Meaney), very entertaining movie all around. Highly recommended!

If you watched some tv, you would definitely have recognized Maria Doyle Kennedy (from Orphan Black if nothing else) and I believe she actually didn't even consider acting before that movie. She always was a musician but only fell into acting after she was asked to be one of the singers in the band.
She still acts less than she plays and she's doing mostly tv but you should add Sing Street to your movie watchlist for when you're in the mood for something musical, or Irish or just a fun coming of age story really. They nabbed a Golden Globe nomination back in 2016 for best Musical or Comedy.

Frank (2024)
American documentary short film. It's about 99-year-old attorney Frank Lucianna, the oldest practicing lawyer in America, as he readies for his last criminal trial. It's interesting and the subject of this short doc is fascinating but in only 15 minutes it doesn't achieve much. Should've been longer. Overall I can recommend it, though.

The Flying Deuces (1939)
American buddy comedy film. It's about a guy who has fallen in love with an innkeeper's daughter in Paris but she's already very much in love with her husband, so to forget her he joins the Foreign Legion with his friend. I just realized I haven't watched anything Laurel and Hardy for ages. Certainly not since I've started watching movies obsessively in 2018. Might be because I've already seen a lot of their stuff as a kid because they were still massive in the 90s. And I'm not a big rewatcher, so I haven't revisited anything by them. Somehow I have never seen this one, so it was my pick for today. And what can I say? It's of course very entertaining, and even though it's not Laurel and Hardy at their best I still enjoyed it a lot. It's a very good movie and I can highly recommend it!

Tunnel Rats 1968 (2009). War movie by Uwe Boll. Altho, as i understand, not one of hollywoods most renowned names. Still, i really loved this movie. Brutal, quite humouros at times. Kinda the b action movie that just happened to work so well! I gave it 10/10 on IMDB.

Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
American superhero film. It's about Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, the Flash, and Superman as they form an alliance to stop an extradimensional supervillain and his army from conquering Earth for his overlord. Rewatched this yesterday and it's still good. There are some parts that are not all that good (for example Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller's Flash) but overall it's definitely the better version of that movie and I'm glad that Zack Snyder got to make it like he wanted. It's nowhere near as transcendent as his fans claim it is but for a 4 hour movie it's very entertaining. Can recommend.

I feel the best parts of the movie happen in flashbacks. I would gladly pay to see the prequel about Darkseid's Invasion.
That was the truly epic moment for me with all the Gods, the Amazons, and some heroes like Green Lantern assembled to fight back.
It's nowhere near as transcendent as his fans claim it is
lol at least it's not all in slow-mo like Rebel Moon ;)

The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019)
American comedy drama film. It's about a golden retriever who learns through his bond with his owner, an aspiring Formula One race car driver, that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to successfully navigate the journey of life. Well, if you're planning on watching this you gotta prepare yourself for a tearjerker. I mean it's about an old dog who relives his life with his race car driver owner and it's absolutely as sad and beautiful as you imagine. Good cast (Milo Ventimiglia, Kevin Costner, Amanda Seyfried, Kathy Baker, Martin Donovan, Gary Cole, Al Sapienza, McKinley Belcher III and more). Overall I thought this was very good although maybe not quite as heartbreaking as other similar dog-related movies and so I can very much recommend it.

28 Years Later (2025)
British-American post-apocalyptic horror film. It's about a member of a group of survivors of the rage virus who live on a small island and when he leaves the island on a mission into the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors. Watched this at the cinema yesterday. I enjoyed this one a lot. Great cinematography and editing, fascinating story, kind of a weird ending but it makes me all the more excited for the sequel that's coming out in January. Very good cast as well and Alfie Williams, the 14 year old child actor who's playing what's pretty much our main character could absolutely hold his own alongside other members of the cast like Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Jack O’Connell. Overall I can very much recommend this.

The Order (2024)
American-Canadian-British crime thriller film. It's about an FBI agent who goes after a white supremacist terrorist group. Very interesting story and on top of that it's based on a true story and actually happened. Good cast (Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, Marc Maron and more). Overall it might not be anything outstanding in the genre but it's definitely good enough to enjoy. Can recommend.

I couldn't believe they made another movie about this story and still didn't manage to make it deeper or more meaningful than Costa-Gavras' Betrayed.
This felt more like an acting showcase for Jude Law and Hoult like "Hey look, they can play other types of characters too"

For Your Consideration (2006)
American satirical comedy film. It's about a group of three actors who learn that their performances in the fictional film they have not even completed yet, are supposedly generating a great deal of award-season buzz. Great cast (Christopher Guest (who also directed and co-wrote the movie), Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy (who also co-wrote the movie), Parker Posey, Jennifer Coolidge, Fred Willard, Bob Balaban, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, Jane Lynch, Ricky Gervais, Ed Begley Jr., Sandra Oh, John Krasinski, Richard Kind, Kevin Sussman, Mark Harelik, Paul Dooley, Don Lake and more). I very much enjoyed it so I can recommend it.

Asteroid City (2023)
About as charmingly quirky as I've come to expect from Wes Anderson's movies, I don't think I really got the point of it, but I suspect than that's actually kinda the point of this one. It's a fun movie and mesmerizing to look at. Sometimes I had to go back and listen to some lines again because I didn't catch them the first time tho, not every character speaks clearly because of the accents they do. I enjoyed the layers of story in the play inside a play gimmick it has going on.

Macario (1960)
Mexican supernatural fantasy drama film. It's about a poor and hungry peasant who wishes to have a good meal for All Saint's Day but after his wife cooks him a turkey the Devil, God and Death appear to him. It's based on a novel that itself is based on the Brothers Grimm story Der Gevatter Tod/Godfather Death, so you might or might not already be familiar with the basic plot of this movie. I thought it was great and I think I'm not the only one, considering it was the first Mexican film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, it was entered into the 1960 Cannes Film Festival and it has been widely regarded by critics and audiences as one of the greatest Mexican films ever made. Overall I enjoyed it a lot and can highly recommend it!

The Outfit (2022)
American psychological crime drama thriller film. It's about an English cutter who runs a tailor shop in Chicago, whose primary customers are a family of vicious gangsters. The story was very interesting, the movie is single-location (and some of you might know how much I like those) and the main character is played by the great Mark Rylance who's brilliant in everything he's in, this included. Additional cast include Zoey Deutch, Johnny Flynn, Simon Russell Beale, Dylan O’Brien, Nikki Amuka-Bird and more. Overall I thought this was really good and I can highly recommend it.

Decided to watch it again after you posted. What a good movie. The script and direction are good but Rylance kicked them out 100 notches.
He's so good. I know he has an Oscar, multiple Tonys, BAFTAs and Olivier Awards and I actually still think he is underrated.

I actually just saw the movie Novocaine (2025). Pretty good movie. Nathan Caine (the main character) has an unique ability to not feel pain. And he uses it to be a hero in the movie. He works as a bank manager and the bank gets robbed. And they take his girlfriend "hostage"... well not exactly, but I won't spoil anything. And he goes on a rampage to save her. That is the most recent movie I saw.

Hard Times (1975)
American action drama sport film. It's about a mysterious drifter freighthopping through Louisiana during the Great Depression, who proves indomitable in illegal bare-knuckled boxing matches after forming a partnership with a talkative hustler. Very good cast (Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Jill Ireland, Margaret Blye, Bruce Glover, M. C. Gainey, Robert Lee Minor and more). Interesting story, great cinematography. And about half an hour in you see a bear in a cage, and the stock sound that was used for when it growled is the one I distinctly remember from Zoo Tycoon (2001), a game which I played way too much as a kid. Overall I enjoyed the movie and can recommend it.

Here we go, I'll start.
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (2010) - This movie is a joke. At first it's interesting, then it's boring and then it's just funny/pathetic. And they put it in a "horror" genre. Words are not sufficient. Nosferatu is turning in his grave. 3/10
