Hi,

When you set filters, what are the things you normally pick? I generally like to search 10p to 50p so I get kinda the games with highest score, but lately, I am trying out the Metascore thing.

What do you pick?

I filtered all games to my hidden list instead

I'm not going to ask how long that took to clear out. 😅

Making a decision to start do that was the longest, later it wasn't such problem. I left almost all groups as they were shovelware and hentai spam, then filtering what was left haven't took over day. Now I have just 4 giveaways at top page - Baldurs gate 1 & 2, Port Royal 2 and lego DC Villains. It is easy to maintain in case anything new appear. But I see like 1 new giveaway per day if even.

I add any games I am interested in playing to my wishlist and then when I want to check for giveaways to enter I just use the wishlist option.

I only look through the main list of giveaways when I want to see new games that I haven't heard of and do research on them. I hide all games that I am not interested in and currently have over 23,000 games hidden, so I don't really need to use any other filters because there aren't many games to look though on my main list of giveaways.

Same here, I only enter the giveaways for the games I'm interested in playing, from my ever-growing wishlist. Which wasn't the case for when I joined the site initially and now these initial wins are stuck in my library, forever :')

Same with me, although I often check the "recommended" list to see if there's anything I might be interested in.

I also do that. That's where I normally stand. I'll only pick to play and participate for games I know I'll wanna play.

I do that too, just that I filter it most of the time between 10p to 50p. I get fairly good results. I don't have as many games hidden, I believe I barely reach 1,000.

It takes some time to hide the games, but it saves time in the long run. I don't spend a lot of time all at once, I just chip away at them a little at a time. I might have did a big chunk in the beginning, but I have been slowly adding games to the list for over 6 years, so it adds up.

Most games to my hidden list. The ones left are games that at least seem interesting and that I would definitely play if given the choice.

its alot of work for the first couple visits.
but eventually its hide 10 games a day(more if trash bundle site sells another 9 pieces of junk for 50 cents) and your good.

well worth clicking that hide button, also helps on trains... dont see the hide button? click next.

I can imagine that. I've been clearing out, but new ones showed up which I am not interested in. The ones cheaper than 10p are abundant, so that must have taken a lot.

I filter by cookies, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, etc... :D

but reality is I just hide so many games that I have entered ALL the giveaways on my feed, page 1 has stuff with a week+ left on it to go... page 2 has 5 GA's total on it.
if I get desperate to stash some points I will open a incognito tab and find some long running ones I had hid to store them and hope a new bundle with things I don't want to buy but kinda want to play shows up.

Like others also said, I just ignore all games I am not interested in and what I have left are either games I am or games I didn't ignore yet and I use an add-on that shows me which games I have wishlisted so games with no icon means I have to check...

It's Steam Web Integration, got it from a discussion from Steamgifts, I did change it a bit so it would work best for me, you need a script program for it like Tamper Monkey or whatever, I love it since on any website that links to a Steam page, it shows a X, a heart, a tag, etc. depending on how you have it (so ignored, wishlisted, owned, etc.)

I think it cost me more in money than time. Every time you check the site, look for 5-10 games you surely don't want to enter, it adds up a lot. Then after a few days-weeks it's up for wanted games from bundles, and unique giveaways left. Few hours altogether, then a minute or two a day max to keep it clean

I've filtered before a couple of times games I wanna see the rest got hidden, but they were between 10p to 50p. There are a lot of 0-9p games that I need to get through I guess.

Comment has been collapsed.

For some time I filtered by entries multiple times, first 50 then 200 then 500 and so on, so I would first enter where there is higher chance of winning. But now I have entered all giveaways available and still have 330P left.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What did you use to filter the games with a higher chance of winning?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I meant that I filtered by the number of entries (https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?q=&entry_max=50), so in giveaway with only 50 entries I would have higher chance of winning than in giveaway with 1000 entries, if they had comparable ending time.

Most of the time I use a "whitelist" filter. It reduces the unwanted giveaways significantly.
Sometimes I also use a "good games" filter which presumably should show some new games I could like (sometimes it really does)

I don't. As others have already mentioned, I also just hide games I have no interest in. Keeps it neat and whenever a new game pops up I can check out if it's interesting or if it gets added to ignored. I've found more relatively interesting games this way than by browsing Steam's discovery queue.

At times I've set it to Points-under-10 and then gone on a Hiding spree.

During a 'storm' of good games, like when a big charity bundle comes along, I've used the Entries-less-than-100 option to make best use of my points.

What's your current impression of using the Metascore?

What's your current impression of using the Metascore?

It's mixed. I've switched back and forth. I've not used the entries-less-than-100 option. I'd like to try it, but also matter for what games it shows. I'd rather go for games I'll play only.

Look at this first, see if there are any giveaways ending soon (or in the next 24 hours):
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?entry_max=4
Then this second, do the same:
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?entry_max=44
Third:
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?entry_max=444
or
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?type=wishlist&entry_max=100
Fourth:
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?type=wishlist&entry_max=500
If there are any points left after that, I look for Recommended/Wishlist/Groups (in that order) to see if there's anything interesting. I avoid giveaways with more than 500 entries.

It's interesting that you add an additional 4 only, why is that? Why 4, then 44 and 444 and not a more rounded number?

I don't use ESGST, so I was confused by your question and the pic for a while. I tried search the menu options at the top to see in case some advance search option has been made available on SG in the recent update that I missed.
Anyway, it's same as most others here. I hide games, and sometimes use the wishlist filter. I love exploring new games and I haven't been around for long so have only 8k+ hidden games, and since I have a small steam library, unlike others I see a lot of GAs on the main page, but that's fine by me.
Also, I use the New filter(sorting order?) more often than anything else. It usually takes only about 2-3 minutes to checkout all the new GAs every 4-5 hours.

Sorry for the confusion. It's a great tool to use. Makes my searches and exploration a lot faster.

Somehow despite realizing it's benefits, I still don't feel like using it for some reason.

Really? I feel like it's the best one. I usually don't have a lot of new GAs to check out and hence don't normally run out of points to enter. That means, in case a GA is created that I am interested in, I am usually able to enter it straight away. The "New" filter allows me to not waste time checking out the same GA again, and imo is the better way to avoid missing a GA as compared to the other in-built methods (not sure if ESGST helps here).

Even I use EGST I rarely use search filters.

I just browse by "New" + I keep turned on the standard setting to hide games from filter list and hide giveaways above my lvl.

I already have 12,915 games in my filter list and pretty happy to see previously unseen titles I can learn about. That is the fun part of SG for me - I'm learning about unknown to me games here :) If game doesn't look like something I will ever want to play - it goes to my filter list.

At these exact moment I can see 102 giveaways total (entered 17 of them), but many are "duplicates". Like I see x6 Ghostrunner, x6 Nihilumbra and so on. Usually I see not more than 50 giveaways - but when some bundles are dropped the number goes up. Also I have relatively small library so I even see games from "oh common, everyone have these games they were given away for free and only bots don't have them" category :D

That's exactly how I operate most of the time, except I've got a long way to filter games to reach to what you have.

I tend to buy bundles that I feel are worth it for me rather quickly so often times I tend to not see the most recently bundled ones anymore.
