I'm not sure, but it seems that gift this game in the gray markets was sold for insane money.
It's nice that now it can be bought at an affordable price.

yeah, offer can be high - I guess those sellers wish to have lowered prices, but feeling sorry for those who paid high prices XD

I would never pay these high prices. Especially because you could still buy the game on Origin for a "normal" price.

indeed, welp I don't even buy games at launch prices (only couple exceptions, but 100% only for indies)

Same here, there are few exceptions. But I never pre-order.

Comment has been collapsed.

yup, pre-orders are BIG FAT red flags, like why would you do that (like you can't play sooner), okay only one reason I can think of is some sort financial thing, that to need to spend some amount to "win" with some tax, let it be covered as company's expense etc

Did the sales stop?

Yes. If I remember correctly, it had some sort of internal key system on Steam that ran out at the time.

Wow, I can't believe all the keys are ran out at the Steam. That's what happened.
Thank you!

Not the only game either. Fortunately it isn't common at this point, but some older games liked their CD key anti piracy.

Will it be temporary or will they leave it like that?

I think about it a lot because of the price but that or buy it with resellers at exorbitant prices

Now EA Access is integrated into steam.

I got the origin complete version because i wanted the original more than the sequel for around $7 - 8 from humble and im plenty happy sticking with that.

As beautiful as the second game is, I had more gameplay fun with the first one. (Played through it when the sequel released, though I'd also played the demo of the original when it was new.) Both are worth a playthrough though.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, and if they haven't patched it, you can copy the original files over and edit a text file in the sequel to access to first game from the second on Steam -- assuming you do have the files for it.

Yeh but i gave EA my money 1 time for the game giving them money 2x for a game i would feel icky.

Certainly! Was mostly commenting for the benefit of others, agreeing that getting both games is a good move.

Any reason why it was put back? I see it was removed to incentivize people to get it on origin.

But hasn't EA Play been a part of steam for a bit now? Not disagreeing, just saying that would make more sense if it was near the start of when EA Play through steam was introduced.

I think it's impossible for them to add all the games to ea play at launch, so maybe slowly they're gonna make more and more of them compatible, and as users lose interest in ea play as they play through the library, they might add an older title that's much wanted by the player base to get them to sub again, or get some who always wanted this game to be able to finally get it. Not much point in having it removed either you know?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It was not removed because of that, it was removed because EA had ran out of keys for their ancient DRM scheme on the game. They patched the game to remove that DRM last month.

Have the original on disc, own this on Origin directly, and own the PS3 version as well.
It's nice to see it "return" though.

Woot! Its a true gem of a game! I was planning on gettin it on Origin anyways, but it would be nice to have it listed in Steam too, achievements and all.
Back at the time, I even drew a fanart of it, that was also a gift for one of my dear friends, who liked this series a lot.

what's so good about that game? Or was it just because it became rare since it was removed

It's a good game in general with a long history.

It's a sequel to American Mcgee's Alice which was insanely good and they're both like dark versions of the Alice in Wonderland universe that you might be familiar with. I'd say it's never too late to give it a shot.

Holy shit!

Maybe it's because they are making the third one and movie or tv show as I heard.
F.. finally... I missed this game before and was disappointed when EA went back on Steam and Alice wasn't there,

Still no first game out there, but better this than nothing.

But again, is this true steam version or just a launcher for Origin, cos I have this game there already.
I see EA Play, but is this an option or it's the only way :/

Thanks!

I've asked on steam forum, and one guy (who owns Alice) said it's a steam game, doesn't require Origin or EA Play logon, they ditched it like a month ago, supposedly.

Huh, I thought American McGee went into retirement but it seems you are right. Looks like he never really went away, but lived a more quiet life for the past couple of years.

Just saying , you don´t need Origin anymore to play it n_n. So everyone who have issues in the past with the Origin key can play it now (I downloaded it today and played it fine without origin in Steam :) )

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It never needed Origin though, but required an EA activation. In fact I was afraid of if they added Origin, it seems that's not the case. At least according to SteamDB.

it seems as is typical of recent EA, the price is multiple times higher than it previously was (for lower regions, including regions that previously did not have any pricing to buy it).
But if the trend is to be assumed, we can anticipate a future sales cycle of up to 90% for a limited time - recently seen with mirror's edge catalyst and unraveled 2
People who bought it before the removal got the best prices, historically.
