Start a contest with friends to see who can get the highest Avg. Game Completion Rate. The more games you own the lower the completion rate will likely be because you will have less time on each game. I know the more games I buy The lower my rate is.

@OP, no clue but if you figure out a sure fire method for resisting the game sales let me know (without being broke).
I've got the same disease. Heck, not only do I buy games because I might want to play, buy them sometimes even though I've got them on other services (and vice-verse) just to complete the collections on those services. My GOG and Steam accounts have quite a number of cross duplicated titles.
Enhanced Steam does not help either. "OMG, lowest price in price history, must buy now!" I've had a hard time reminding myself some titles have no advantage being 'on' Steam that I already own DRM free. Then again in some ways it has helped as I can say "Oooh, that's been lower, pass."

I have most of the "must haves" by now from bundles and/or sales from Amazon or other sites. I only picked up Spelunky and the Payday 2 DLC from Steam and Sanctum 2 from Amazon this time around. Also, remember that nearly all games on sale will pop up on the coming sale and it will most likely pop up on Amazon as well for a few dollars so don't stress with buying all them games in one go. ;)

I usually buy a $50 steam card from a store before the sales to limit my spending. I usually do this for only the summer and winter sales since they usually have the best deals.
Thanks to the new consoles, I'm not sure if i'll be doing that for this sale.

Set yourself a limit. And buy only what you need, even if it breaks your heart. The next sale will come. Maybe you could limit yourself as someone here said by buying a steam card and only using that money or you could limit yourself to 2 games you've got on your wishlist.

I find myself spending way too much money, more than I have / should spend on steam sales.
I'm so OCD I feel like I have to get everything once its in bundles or on low enough sale because one day I "might" want to play it.
Also steam achievements and trading cards add to the OCD factor.
How do you guys resist your gamers instinct collectors OCD?
How do you decide which games are in and which games are out? No matter the sale?
This is especially true due to the upcoming winter sale.
TL;DR - Spending too much money I don't have on games I don't play and gifts because they're on sale. How do I stop?
