I know someone who watched LP of TWD cause he cba to buy and play it himself. I watch some LP's when I want to see how others are playing certain games.

I watch some LPs of games for system I don't have, or if the guy makes good content and is enjoyable to watch.

Along the lines of the two others that responded to you, I watch Let's Plays sometimes for various reasons. Sometimes it's because there's a game I've heard is REAL bad (Aliens: Colonial Marines comes to mind) and I want to get a "purer" impression of the game than I would get from a 5-15 minute biased review. Other times there may be a game on a system I don't own but I want to see the story so I'll watch a LP. Still other times I watch LPs because there are one or two LPers that I find really funny. Finally there are some occasions where I just can't manage an aspect of a game and need to see someone else do it to see what I'm doing wrong.

Depending on the person, it could be far more fun than playing yourself. davidr64 is one of my favourites, though it's been so long since I've watched his stuff. Watching him learn how to play Minecraft was absolutely wonderful.

The concept was I think originally a Mystery Science Theatre type dealie, where the entertainment was derived more from the commentator's input that the source material itself. The game in an LP is supposed to be a canvass rather than the focus of the exercise. One doesn't go to the likes of Jesse Cox, Game Grumps, or Two Best Friends for the games, but rather the personalities playing them.

Cases in point, a few samples from the original Something Awful LPs...

• Sonic '06 is an absolutely terrible game to watch let alone play, but the collective mental breakdown of Pokecap'n and Co. is at varying times hilarious, frustrating and heart warming.
• The Freelance Astronauts don't so much play games as they simply break them in half for shits and giggles. (See: The Kickboat Saga, the JFK assassination as a game of Horse, or the terror that is Dongs REO Speedwagon.)
• ResearchIndicate's LP of Jurassic Park: Trespasser actually manages to be more of an educational documentary than a normal LP. His voice is also considered audio erotica to many.

I like the LP videos. Especially for games that are exclusive to consoles only, as I don't own any, PC Gamer. Started watching him when I was looking for Uncharted, Heavy Rain and The Last of Us playthroughs. Tbh, he's annoying as hell, but compared to some of the LP videos others have done, his playthrough on The Last of Us had the least amount of "Dumbass" coming out of my mouth.

Let's be honest, here. That has been going on for more years than this one guy has been around.

Oh come on, not like the so called "youth" didn't know those words already. In a way, he's ruining the youth less than other sources on the internet, as a lot of his swear words are being said in Swedish, without subtitles.
