PewDiePie - Ruined Gaming or Saved Gaming?

I think people give too much importance to what an individual has to say.

All I know about the guy is that people like to talk about him a lot online, mostly hate. Is he like the Justin Beiber of Lets Plays or something? Also, is his name the same name as one of the My Little Ponies; because that seems odd...

Umm, neither? Sure he ruined the Amnesia modding community and the Happy Wheels community (not that it was that hard), but as a larger trend he really doesn't matter very much. He's just some guy that makes bad lets plays on youtube.

I don't see why he deserves so much hate. It would be productive to hate people that are actually assholes, PewDiePie is just a youtuber than appeals to people that doesn't include you. As for how he impacted gaming, he impacted gaming just as much as Robbaz, Cr1tikal, RoosterTeeth, or whatever. He Didn't. At most, he maybe introduced games to someone first, but the exposure was going to happen soon by someone else if it wasn't him anyways.

Considering gaming wasn't really on the brink of extinction I can hardly say he's saving it. And he's not playing CoD or any other competetive game online so I can't really say he's ruining it. So he's introducing young people to gaming, which in this day and age isn't really that far-fetched anyway. So what was the point of this thread anyway?

He is offensive in every way possible, his entire stichk involves nothing more than rape jokes, and demeaning women, and if you are a fan of his I wouldn't want you as a friend, he is unfunny, and the idea that he is anything to the world of gaming is both depressing and disappointing

Pewds is just another letsplayer, his achievement is not about doing something for gaming but about getting so many subscribers with his videos, and he did this by being silly in a way that is actually funny (to many people, at least). You may wanna watch his last year's speech if you wanna get into details about what he does and why.
