So I got Dark Souls 1,a game I was REALLY looking forward too. And what do you know,Games for Windows Lives has to be the fucking shittiest Hitler torture machine on Earth. It won't update so I can play online,it gives me the error code 80070424 "Can't download the update, make sure you are connected to the Internet" How the fuck do I fix this? I reinstalled it,didn't work. I can't even open the client,it says I don't have a feature turned on or some shit, and then it sends me to a fucking Zune update page? What the hell? Please someone help me I really want to fucking play this

Go to your router setup page its something like 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 insert the name and password (default is admin/admin). Go to the NAT section and then to Port forward or port triggering or Virtual Servers...

Try the newest version here http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=201134
You might want to completely deinstall the old before you install the new.

If everything fails you could try to download/update the GFWL client manually. I belong to the group of people who never had any problems of that sort with GFWL, but I've heard this solution works like a charm (as the Installer in the DS1 files in steam could be outdated)

Last time I had the problem, I disabled UPnP on my router. Did few googling before that, found out that people can't play Dawn of War because GFWL, after disabling UPnP everything runs smoothly.

Fixed by uninstalling both entries in the program files in control panel and reinstalled.

I've fucking looked at almost every fucking thread on this, all the answers that are suppose to "work" have done nothing but made it fucking worse,I can't even open Dark Souls without it crashing anymore. And whenever I try to open the GFWL client it says that I need to download the Sign-In Assistant, which I've downloaded THREE TIMES. It keeps saying to downloading it,I already have!

I had the same problem with Dead Rising 2. Tried everything people said that "worked", nothing actually worked.

I gave up, hoping they'll remove GFWL from the game one day. 12€ down the toilet.

Never was good with GFWL stuff, but from what I know of Microsoft's stuff, that error code indicates connectivity issue. Pretty much something is preventing a download.

If you still need help with opening the ports as suggested, portforward.com is a great resource. You might also want to try disabling your firewall temporarily as that may be blocking the connection. And as silly as it sounds, if you haven't powercycled your modem and router yet, do so. A restart of the computer also wouldn't be a bad idea if you haven't done that. I'm sure you have, but worth mentioning it just in case.

Managed to fix it! Had to download the Microsoft Essentials package because it came with Sign-In Assistant, which you need for GFWL to work. The regular Sign-In Assistant doesn't download itself properly,so use the Microsoft Essentials package and restart your computer!
