I just finished Vikings and I don't really have a show to watch. I started watching Black Sails last night, but for God's sake, if I want to watch softcore porn, I just go to pornhub or something, like any other normal person. So, here I am, good people of SG, asking you for a good TV series, without softcore porn - I prefer historical-themed shows and I don't mind the blood and violence. I also am not a fan of TV series, so you can go wild with recommendations (the only shows I watched in fact were seinfeld, friends, how i met your mother and vikings).

Sorry, but I don't really have anything to giveaway right now. If you are on my whitelist, there are two open giveaways: apotheon and shower with your dad simulator.

P.S.: I know that there was already a thread similar to this a couple of days ago, but I have some "more specific" needs.

GoT clearly does not fit under what I want. :)) I will check Outlander however - from imdb description, it looks interesting.

Spartacus is exactly what I don't want to see. Xena and Hercules were pretty popular here a couple of years back - I don't like those series very much. I might enjoy Gargoyles, but my girlfriend doesn't like animated series (sadly). I will check 3rd rock from the sun.

Thank you!

Historical-themed... Ok, here you go:

  • Deadwood (One of my all-time favorites.)
  • I, Claudius (It's from 40 years ago, but still pure gold.)

EDIT: Oh, I see Deadwood was already suggested. Well, +1. :) And also +1 for Rome.

Based on what you said I'd try:

Reign (I dislike the pop songs on it tho)
I, Claudius (if you don't mind British accent in Roman characters)
Game of Thrones (there are some extreme scenes)
Penny Dreadful (same as above)
Shinsengumi! (the 2004 NHK series)

The Americans is one of the best I have seen lately. I am also watching Under the Dome (quite "bad" but entertaining...) and also Zoo, wich has a interesting premise but then starts going down IMO... still entertaining.

I suggest you Prison Break or Bloodlines (it's actually on Netflix)

Since you asked for historical themed shows, how has noone mentioned Marco Polo yet?
It's first season came out last year and imo it's stunning, it had a 100 mil. budget for just 10 episodes probably making it the most expensive netflix exclusive to date and thanks to that big budget they've got some incredible cast members + breathtaking visuals.

In a nutshell, the show's about Marco polo (obviously) who becomes a member of Kublai Khan's household (the fifth leader of the Mongol Empire) in the 13th century while Kublai Khan is waging a war to take control of parts of China.

If you loved Vikings as much as i did (can't wait for the final season!) then i'm pretty sure you'll love this show as well.

Something historical? The closest thing I watched would be Agent Carter. In that it's set soon after WW2 but it's a Marvel Show. So some low tech sci-fi stuff involved.
