Hardcore gamer = spends most of his or her free time playing games. Usually means video games, but can mean any type of game. One can be a hardcore CoD gamer, a hardcore Skyrim gamer, a hardcore WoW gamer, a hardcore Blackjack gamer, a hardcore WH40K miniatures gamer, a hardcore M:TG gamer, a hardcore basketball player (still a game), a hardcore Farmville gamer, etc.
A self-professed hardcore gamer is someone who admits that they have little to no life outside of gaming unless it has something to do with gaming, such as hanging out with friends that they also game with, or going to conventions or watching/playing pro games.

This is just an observation but does anyone else find it a little amusing when people say that they are a gamer/hardcore gamer?
It like saying, "I'm a hardcore reader" or "I'm a hardcore movie watcher", although that last one could sound like you enjoying watching porno.
