seems a bit harsh to ban somebody who didn't win a copy(or who can be proven to have it in their steam account redeemed) for making a support ticket asking why they can't give away others...

It's not on Steam store, therefore you can't give it here. Being able to get Steam redeemable keys is beside the point. If you want to purchase and give a key away to others, you are free to do so on your own.

but this site isn't actually affiliated with steam in any way right? So why would it matter if steam sells it and how would people(the ones who don't see this thread) generally know that to get a 0 strikes ban and be assumed to have regifted? Let alone for trading steam keys on other sites (keys that didn't necessarily come from here because they may have meant the steam redeemable desura version(that and usernames aren't necessarily the same in both places)).

It matters that Steam sells it as SG uses Steam API to make the dropdown list. If it's not sold on Steam, in other words, if it's not in the dropdown list, you can't gift it here. Point. It is in the FAQ, which you should have read when you first joined the site.
We will take activation into consideration if such a trade is observed.
Edit: Oh, I understood what you meant now. Of course you wont be banned by opening a support ticket about giving it away. But if you won it and still making a ticket like that, it creates some unfortunate complicatons, as you can guess.

Dirtbags. Numerous Steamgifts uers who actually wanted the game missed out on it because people like this entered.

That happens all the time. Most of the games people win here just get activated and sit in the inventories to never be played.

A sad reality. That's why i only enter giveaways for games that i actually want to play.
It's a damn shame when i see 3-4 month old giveaways of games i really wanted, and checked the winner's profile to see if they actually enjoyed the game, then see that they haven't even launched the game once.

I've seen this argument numerous times before.
Just because they haven't started playing the game yet, doesn't mean they won't ever play the game. There are numerous reasons why they haven't launched it yet, so please don't jump to conclusions.

I agree, I have yet to play my won NecrovisioN Lost Company because I have been playing the games I bought first, and I don't know if it will run on my laptop. Hotline Miami, I can't play anymore due to something that happened (don't ask), and GAR, I will play it as soon as I am not working on a website...

Easy. I take the game I'm interested in, check 5 most recent closed giveaways. All 5 winners haven't bothered to launch their wins even once and I very much doubt they will. We talk about several weeks to months timeframe here. They just won some random game, they have to activate it - done. That's it.

Not saying you're wrong, but if I play a game while offline, it doesn't show as being played at all in my steamprofile/library. A better way to check if a game has been played is to look at the achievements (assuming the game uses them). If you play your game offline, your achviements get added to your steamprofile the next time you go online again.

anyone considering attempting to sell it should just activate it and give it a go instead, I've played it a bit and it seems like it could be a decent little time waster.

While I hope those who are new to the site and giving/trading their win learn their lesson and end up becoming rule-abiding and contributing members later, what I'm finding is that many of the traders actually have a history of unactivated games going back weeks/months, so as well as being a giveaway for a pretty enjoyable and interesting game, it's also helping to find people who have been abusing the site unchecked. :)

I'm sure I don't need to tell you guys this, but just a friendly reminder.
Anyone who attempts to regift / trade Galactic Arms Race will be suspended with extreme prejudice. This includes: Creating forum threads or support tickets about why Galactic Arms Race is not in the dropdown list, creating giveaways under Galactic Bowling or Galactic Civilizations etc. for giving away Galactic Arms Race, attempting to trade away Galactic Arms Race on other sites, creating a topic on SteamTrades about trading Galactic Arms Race away, and other similar actions.

If you come across trades and other offenses, let us know by creating and sending in a support ticket. Makes our job easier, and you won't be accidentally suspended for calling out!
