Hi there, I have a question.
Can/should I create giveaways with Origin keys?

I understand, no EPIC, GOG, etc. since this site is all about Steam, but ... Origin keys are always Origin, I mean if you buy any EA game on Steam, you'll always have to load it through Origin, no matter where you get it from.

Yeah, same for Ubisoft, but that doesnt matter which launcher you need to launch to play the game, it's all about Steam

Keys for any site other than Steam are not allowed, without any exceptions.

yes if you want to buy them a copy on steam after the winner doesn't (and does not have to) agree to the origin version (even if you say so) - if want rid try to trade it on steam trades or barter - but everyone is trying to so don't expect much in the way of deals

The idea is for the system to check that a game is activated on the account that won the game by checking their Steam library. It doesn't matter what launcher launches the game, as long as the game is in your Steam library, it counts. Any game that isn't launched through Steam is not allowed, but another launcher launching through Steam is fine. The winner would get a black dot on their record if they win a game that can't be publically added to their Steam library, and has every right to reject the giveaway as not received.

Edit: I personally don't mind participating in giveaways for any platform, including Origin, but coding verification for other platforms would be a huge undertaking and wouldn't be worth it anyway since most people prefer Steam, and most bundles are primarily Steam keys.

Oh, Ok, now I understand why. So it is because of the verification. Makes sense thanks.

I was actually thinking, that they could "easily" move the verification part of the site to modules, so, let's say you have Steam module, and it would do the verification process following the procedures on that module, but if the game is from EPIC, there could be an EPIC module.
Then, only do the main work for the Steam module, and leave some basic model of how other modules should work (in theory), upload them to github, and let the community work on the modules for other sites.

Initially it would be a bit of extra work from the devs of steamgifts, but then, working on those modules, would be the work of the community. That way, everyone "would be happy". You know ... lol.

Thanks for the reply, it does help. ^_^

I get your point, but most of us are just waiting for origin store to die of like ubisoft's is.

Steam only here, but you could always make a clone site and call it OriginGifts.com

LOL, I completely understand!
I, also don't like Origin much, but ... games like Mass Effect, Need for speed, etc. force us to use Origin V_V and those are great games.

PS: I really believe a modular system maintained by the community could work on this site, but ... 🤷‍♂️

If you want to drop an origin/gog/ubisoft key, you could do it here https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/tnWVh/anti-ninjas-key-drops-no-keys-in-messages-though or creating a new thread. It's not allowed on this site to create non-steam giveaways since you can't check whether the key has been redeemed or not

Thanks, that's also good to know. At least is one extra way to give back to the community.
I appreciate the help, ^_^
