I give up trying to get a game on Game Vault because I’ve failed too many times to get the game of my choice.

If you find one of the mid-tier games you like there is a good chance to get them - with the top tier ones not so much.

I totally agree. I got some really nice games like Diablo IV (~a year after release) and Everspace 2 and some others. But 0 chance for recently released AAA games.

I'm wondering why they do not use the MFA key for the vault openings. This will makes things harder for the bots at least.

I guess this is either because nobody there figured out how to do it properly or more likely their usual dont-care attitude.
Like that one time the vault did not work and some people used browser commands to make the right buttons appear and get the best games. AWA‘s response was they paid the ARP so everything‘s fine.

Honestly, I just wish they would implement direct activation at this point. Having the game you redeem activates immediately on your linked Steam account would get rid of the multiaccounters. I saw someone here giving away two copies of the Walking Dead DLC, meaning they most probably have at least two AWA accounts. I'm not sure why this isn't a thing yet.

The issue isn't bots. The issue is having so few keys and so many members going for the same keys. They've said before that a game can have as few as 100 keys, and there are thousands of t5 members.

GOG... gonna save ARP this month

Atari 50 is tempting but a bit expensive for a GOG key, on the other hand Resident Evil and Dino Crisis have pretty nice prices, kinda wish I was allowed to pick up both.

LOL!

Why are they priced so high? You can get any of those games for cents if not free.

Where? The Witcher games sure, but the other ones haven't been bundled or given away as far as I'm aware. If you can get those for cents I'd be interested to be pointed in the right direction :)

It's just a figure of speech. Not all of them but most of them, check the grey market. In any case, they are expensive to be GOG keys.

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm, I've always been an advocate and supporter of the idea of GOG games in the vault but this implementation leaves me somewhat quizzical. Even with a discount the prices leave much to be desired. Ordinarily I'd consider the Atari pack but do I really want to part with 4250 ARP for nostalgia' sake? 🤔 (Especially when, rather perversely the GOG version of the game wont receive any more updates/DLC). Witcher 2 I still have my retail set so 3300+ for a DRM free version? 🤔 Broken Sword remake maybe but already having the Director's Cut and retail original I'm not sure if I'd be missing out on too much. And (correct me if I'm wrong) isn't the Witcher 1 still free if you jump through some hoops or something? 🤔

I hope the (inevitable) blowback doesn't dissuade AWA from partnering with GOG in the future, just perhaps in a different way. One silver lining I suppose, with all the GOG haters and poor resale value for GOG keys I suspect the vault will go smoothly this month.

Not consisdering a game because it's on another platform as Steam is really dumb. Especially when GOG offers at least a semblance of ownership compared to all the other digital platforms.
The choices they made and ARP they ask for those games are very debatable though. AWA would be better served if they would recognize GOG as a platform which offers all the modern titles too at competitive prices and not only functions as a preserve for old games.

Nevertheless it will be interesting to observe how this month's vault will go.

I just wanted to add that one main issue with GoG is that for most of the world, buying on GoG is considerably costlier than buying games from anywhere else due to lack of regional pricing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Definitely a factor I'm not very fsmiliar with. Living in Germany I'm used to pay one of the highest prices everywhere.
What I'm just saying the games they chose are good games in itself but a little long in the teeth maybe.

Comment has been collapsed.

I can understand, but you mentioned "GOG ... offers all the modern titles too at competitive prices", just wanted to mention that it is not really true for most countries in the world, where Steam actually does that (even AAA devs who do not follow Steam's regional pricing, usually keep prices a bit lower than the $ or € prices).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I acknowledge your point and that may be a reason to prefer other platforms like Steam. But in this special case with AWA giving you free game keys this is a non-issue. AWA doesn't discriminate according to regional prices on Steam either and the ARP they want for some games are mystery to me.

Yeah, I agree with you on that, but when you spend money on one platform and not the other, you usually would like to get most games there... not to mention other benefits like forum, workshop, guides, etc.

GOG keys? Will be interesting to see how much longer it will take for them to be sold out. Also, no new and big headliner titles so it won't be a fair comparison. Will certainly help with availability though since the bots/resellers will be less interested in these.

Although Broken Sword has a very old story, the game itself, its current version, was released literally a year ago. Since the developers were more expected to just add achievements to the Director's Cut than a new remake, this is a great opportunity to see what's changed, but for free.

Ok, that's fair enough. Not questioning the games per se btw, they are just 'lower profile' than usual. Should give many more people the opportunity to get what they want.

I guess Capcom games (Dino Crisis / Breath of Fire esp.) are highlight here, relatively cheap & not on Steam (expect Resident Evil is as remaster)

But I guess for other games this will be easy month to pick a game or possibly two if there's stock left by end of month of less desirable ones.

In the US, the DRP rewards were amazing from the Intel Event. I bought more DRP with ARP and had enough to buy physical copies of Animal Crossing & Switch Sports for my kids at no extra cost.

I managed to get Steam keys for Final Fantasy 7 & 13 earlier in the year although I don't think they're still on the Dell store now.

I wish they had more Steam keys. Most of their "PC games" are console games unfortunately. Oh well, time to find other things to buy haha

Permalink

I've been told over at Dell that in order to use their DRP I need to spend at least 100€ after having applied the DRP, so I find them utterly useless.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I remember how fed up I was years ago as only US and Canadian members got DRP. After years of complaints they gave some countries in Europe DRP too while the items you can get theoretically are some peripherals and nothing else. As I already own a zoo of mice and a selection of mechanical keyboards and headsets there's nothing useful for me on offer (and I can do without the "generosity" of having to cough up 100 € before being able to use DRP). So I let DRP expire with clockwork regularity.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You could use the DRP on a big once-in-a-blue-moon purchase like a gaming monitor, could you not? At least that's what the constant reminder emails I get from Dell tell me.
Other than that, I have to agree, pretty worthless for EU folks. Being able to get games with DRP would be amazing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That could work if you could accumulate DRP over a long time. But for Europeans DRP expires after six months ( correct me if I'm wrong). I agree Dell monitors are quite good but I'm playing on a 65" 120 Hz UHD tv and if you have experienced "big screen" it's hard to revert to a small screen. Higher refresh rate is a moot argument too as my 4090 doesn't achieve 120 fps at highest settings in 4K in latest games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True, it does expire. But if you are regularly doing all the tasks at AWA and the Spin-the-wheel game on Dell's website once a week you will be able to keep a certain level of points. For me it mostly stays between 10k and 15k. Right now I have around 25k bc of the recent Intel promo weeks on AWA. Before a big purchase you can also buy 5000 DRP with ARP.
Having said all that, in my many maaaany years on AWA I have never used DRP. Quite sad when you think about the amount of points (money) that has gone down the drain. 😆

Ouch, that explains why I don't see DRP talked about much. It's as good as a gift card in the US, which shocked me to find out. Now I've been spending ARP on DRP when I can to completely avoid the pain of trying to get a game from the vault.

Some of those games in this month's vault are GOG exclusives tho, I'm definitely picking up either Dino Crisis or Resident Evil, they're not even asking for that much ARP for them.

Permalink

For me its mainly about having all my games under one roof for different reasons like for example not buying a game accidentaly twice.
The only exception I'm totally fine with is battlenet, because that used to be the place where exclusivly their games were and stayed with 2-3 others. Although some blizzard games are now available on steam, I won't buy them there.

GOG couldn't be my go to library because new games usually aren't available there on launch.
Same thing with EGS exclusive games...they are kind of dead to me even when it is a game I really really would have liked to play.
I won't even buy those games at full price when they later relase on steam. Only a big discount can wash off that exclusivity stench.

For other stores I completely understand your position, but to me GOG is an exemption to the rule because of their DRM-free policy. Originally it was just me liking their approach to game preservation but now that we've been experiencing the real disadvantages of how Steam does things and how old games that should run on old era-appropriate hardware don't simply because Steam dropped support for that OS I came to really appreciate off-line installers that will just work on their own without the need for a client.

I do feel that the ARP they were asking for was too high. Much higher than similarly priced games on steam. Like Breath of Fire IV is $10 usd on gog but costs 2300 arp, while most of the time games priced at $10 usd would cost around 1200 - 1500 arp.

So in the end I got Dino Crisis because I've never played it before so why not.

Now I want to mention two interesting things, one was that I was unable to get the key from my PC because it kept telling me that I was using a VPN, which I'm not using, I had to get the key from my phone through 4G because AWA now doesn't like my main IP for some reason.
And the other one is that the mail I got from GOG said the following about the activation "DINO CRISIS 150 KEYS FOR ALIENWARE ARENA", which means that they only had 150 keys for the game! WTF?! Is this why they always run out of keys in like 20 seconds?
