Here at my house i can drink soda the whole week, but two of my friends is only allowed to drink soda on the weekends.
Is is more normal to be allowed to drink soda just in the weekend or the whole week?

Disagree, I quit soda for two or three years, missed it a lot. Now I drink maybe a can a day and make sure it is real soda with sugar or cane sugar. Harder to find in Canada. I'm in Australia and everything here uses real sugar!

Is that good logic?

So i shouldnt quit crack because i'll miss it?

I agree. I might have some once a week (I find its easier to eat healthy 6 days a week by allowing myself a "cheat day" of indulgence on forbidden foods), especially if I'm having pizza (best cheat day food) or something else where a good fizzy cola or a bottle of a microbrew root beer (Virgil's is amazing!) will complement the meal. Otherwise, I stay away from it, because its basically corn syrup and acid.

Research backs this up. Indulging makes it easier to stay straight on other things. Better to do it daily rather than weekly. You should read the truth about honesty. Has a chapter or two in it about that.

So I tend to indulge on dessert, or a soda, or pizza... So I can be more stringent at work or other aspects of diet and what not. Gives me more focus else where.

Also, find better soda, plenty of them use real sugars and acid is in most drinks.

It's weird to drink it more than once a week. Very unhealthy. You'll rot your teeth and get diabetes. (Not being sarcastic.)

Don't spread bs. Drinking it everyday won't cause diabetes, neither will it rot anybodies teeth if they have proper dental hygiene.

The American Diabetes Association recommends that people should limit their intake of sugar-sweetened beverages to help prevent diabetes. Diabetes is linked to lifestyle choices, particularly obesity, sugar, and particularly sugar-sweetened beverages.

When I was younger, I was always able to drink it whenever I wanted, though I was always encouraged to drink more than just that.

Bad wording on my part. I was always encouraged to drink other things beside soda as well (juice, milk, water, etc).

I don't drink soda anymore, but when I did I was able to drink it whenever I want. I could eat or drink anything, as a normal human would be allowed to, except for liquor of course, as I'm under-age and do not want it anyway.

I'd say this is false. Sure, if you drunk tons of soda, and ate lots of sugary foods every day, you will get diabetes, but not just one can.

So? It always takes years to get diabetes.

Exactly, so even if sugar was a direct cause (which it is not), I doubt OP would drink soda to the point of obesity.

It has been proven that sugar is not a main cause of diabetes, but small factor.
They even stated that having to much sugar causes diabetes is a myth, but the sugar contributes towards obesity therefore increasing chances of diabetes.
Drinking a can or two of fizzy a day will not cause diabetes, if you don't sit around all day and are healthy.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Link please? Diabetes isn't proven to be caused by obesity or sugar or sugary drinks. However, it substantially linked to all three of those things. I personally know three people who have never been obese who have diabetes. Their doctors told them that their daily sugary soda intake was most likely to blame. Are you a doctor? If not, please substantiate your unusual claim that goes against popular belief and goes against my sources.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I am not saying sugary foods do not contribute towards the cause of diabetes, but that it is not a direct cause (source).
Do they have type 1 diabetes? Because the main cause for that is genetic inheritance.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I never claimed it was a direct cause. Did anyone here claim that?

The three I mentioned have type 2. That would make their doctors pretty stupid to tell them that the sugar drink habit was the cause otherwise, wouldn't it?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I always thought that it doesn't work that way. From what I can gather there's one type of diabetes that is caused by obesity, but I haven't been able to find any credible information on a direct link between sugar intake and diabetes.

The above is very much correct me if I'm wrong.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think people relate too much sugar to diabetes because it is mainly caused by high blood sugar levels. But it is false to say sugar is a direct cause, because the main cause is obesity.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I always thought the main cause was your pancreas wearing out. Like it ages extra fast because it's in hyper drive constantly trying to convert the sugar into energy or fat never getting a break or many luls.(Too much sugar in your blood kills cells, ALL cells in your body have a chance to become victim).

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There are several causes, one of them is you Pancreas not producing enough insulin that might be for many causes. Other types are caused by not enough response from your body to insuline levels and so on and so forth.

The pancreas does not convert sugar into anything (well it does) every single cell produces their own energy (but some brain cells) what it does is release insulin which activates the caption of glucose in several cells (I think it was those with Glut4 transporters, not really sure now though) Also stimulates the production of glucogen in the Liver.

Too much sugar in your blood does not kill cells per se. It does but it's more complicated than that. Having said that high levels of glucose blood levels are really bad and should be avoided.

Just drink it whenever you want it. Don't drink litres a day, then you will be screwed. So long as you brush your teeth, they won't rot.

Diet soda contains about 0.1 gram of sugar (diet coke, etc), but of course there are still acids in the drink, so it's a useless alternative to prevent enamel erosion. But of course that will only happen if you have poor dental hygiene.

1 decade ago

A lot of research shows that sugar substitutes are actually worse for you than sugar, as they are usually chemicals that the body is not designed to process and may also induce an insulin response.

I get a nice glass bottled coke or pepsi 0,33 liters every evening. I don't drink any alcohol (28 years old and a dad, I just don't drink, smoke or do anything else) so this is my treat for the day. I enjoy it thoroughly.
