A friend asked me for help with making her tf2 to premium. She's trying to add funds to her wallet and getting errors. I sent her to Steam support and thats what happened:

Her:
I'm trying to add 5€ to my wallet and i keep getting a "There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance." error. I already tried to choose different payment types, all without success. Can it be fixed somehow? Thanks in advance.

Steam:
Thank you for contacting Steam Support. To fund your Wallet while not in-game you will need to use the following link through either Internet Explorer or Firefox: http://store.steampowered.com/steamaccount/addfunds
After adding funds to your Steam Wallet, you can then complete purchases of unique games or DLC through the Steam Store or purchase items through the in game store. If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

Her:
Thank you for your answer, but i've tried all possibilites (Paypal, Moneybookers, directly with Mastercard), different payment data (mine, my parent's, my boyfriend's), browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera) and even via Steam. I still get the same error (see attachment), doesn't matter what or when i try. I've readed on forums that my account is locked because i've bought stuff while being out of country. Is it possible? If yes, could you please remove that purchase lock? Thank you.

Steam:
Our records indicate that your purchase attempts were for 0,39€. Please attempt to add funds to your Steam Wallet first and attempt your purchase again. If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

Her:
Thats what i'm trying to do all time...it doesn't let me adding any funds to my wallet and i'm getting a "There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance." error.

Do they really read just the last reply or do it on purpose to scare off potential customers? If i were in their case, i'd try to do anything to help people spend money lol.

It is random chance whether you will receive a bot like this (not even a person who reads your problem), or a real person from Steam Support. I can't be unhappy with the Steam Support because I have had a need for them once, and they helped me perfectly (the guy was very nice).

Seems like an issue with the IP address differing from the billing address.

I had a similar problem and submitted a ticket and they did give me a workaround for my problem of not being able to buy stuffs with my wallet or credit card.

Good support for a shit platform or shit support for a good platform. I'll still go with steam.

Some people can only buy a paysafecard and if you don't use it within 12 months, they will take like 2€/month.

Don't think you can pay for ingame purchases any other way?

Besides in game purchases (uses for Steam Wallet?) in my experience, I add funds (up to the amount I can afford) to wallet before summer/winter sales and then spend it like that. Saves me from over spending. (I also don't save my billing details to my account for obvious reasons ._.)

Well, I don't know about OTHER people, but if you want to buy multiple copies of something to giveaway here, one Steam Wallet purchase is much less likely to get your card frozen by fraud detection than 20 transactions from Steam for $0.49 for DLC.

Something similiar happened to my friend. But he was asking about Dota2. I think he made them QQ, because next day they gave him Dota2 copy.

I've had multiple similar experiences. I still love Steam but basically, your on your own. Steam support is just a bad bad joke.

They almost NEVER (if ever) actually read what you send, its as if its 100% automated and there is really only like 2 idiots running the whole support system and all they do is sit and laugh at us all. You have to repeat yourself a thousand times and even then, if you get a response that was actually typed out by a support staff, your a lucky one in a million.

No other company could get away with this so why is it we allow this from Steam?? We need to make a petition or something to show them how disgusted the whole community is and it needs to be highly visible so they cannot ignore it (reddit, etc).

I just hope some day it changes. The company makes far too much money off of us to not take care of us in a support role when we need it.

Well I had a similar experience where they played themselves to be idiots, but eventually they solved it.

Most likely not even an issue with Steam. (Trying all those different payment methods and still not working)

I live overseas and I can use Paypal through Steam just fine.

"Useless Steam support" -- Redundant.

I can understand someone not having issues with Steam support. I'm sure there are some issues they can and will address. But once you get one they refuse to do anything about, you're screwed.

I can confirm from my experience that Steam Support seems to be useless, I've contacted them to remove Dota 2 App ID from my account when I downloaded that Spectator Client and it marked my account with Dota 2 App ID so I couldn't enter giveaways, then support contacted me and told me to reply back if I wish to continue with App ID removal from my account, so I did reply and then support told me that Dota 2 and Dota 2 Spectator Client have same App ID and that there is no need to remove App ID of "Spectator Client", I was like DAFUQ? I asked for Dota 2 App ID removal, not damn Spectator Client...

There I was sending total of 14 messages trying to get them to remove actual Dota 2 App ID, and they kept replying same thing like I mentioned above... I... just... screw support, they are dumber than a brick.

EDIT: I was saved from support when in few days I saw I was accepted for beta, went on support and told them to not bother anymore, and closed ticket.

That's the answer, once you purchase something in your steam account out of your local computer, it becomes hard to purchase again. I believe you know what an IP means? It takes them years to remove that!

About the steam support, they have become very useless, brainless & inexperienced these days. I remember few months ago, they used to answer fast and solve the issues faster!

I love Steam to death, but I've never had a good experience with Steam Support. They charged me double price for a sale game once, and not only refused to fix it, they refused to admit that it happened. It was one price when I put it into my cart, and a different price when I checked out. (Not that I am still bitter all these years later, haha)

Steam Support is plain incompetent.
