Let's completely forget about their existing games that are recieving updates regularly and other stuff. At least they listen to people.

Which game are you speaking of? Portal 2 had a very short dev time. L4D2 was out a year after the first, and they are now working on Dota 2. Just because one or two games (half-life) might take awhile means nothing. They are great to their fans and make amazing games, short or not. Along with weekly patches and free DLC for TF2/L4D2 and Dota 2, they're doing more for the fan then any other game company I've see in a long time.

Despite the long delays in between games they have the luxury of waiting forever til the game is perfect. They have something called Steam to fund their products without worrying about anything. That's what makes Valve special. They have people working on what they want rather than what the investor wants.

Just pick like 3-7 most well-known studios from the Google and you'll get what you need without even creating this topic. Who will name developer no one knows about which made one indie game almost no one ever heard about? You'll get generic answers for such questions. Always will.
