Yup. Life is good. Married to the same amazing woman for the last 12 years. 3 kids and a house to finally call our own. So it's been a good year so far. But life was still good 7 years ago when I was struggling to start my own business and feed my family as we counted the cents down to zero every time we went shopping, or 6 years ago when my son started having fits, or 4 years ago when my wife had a miscarriage, or 2 years ago when we were broken into and held at gunpoint. Maybe next year will suck again, but I'll still be happy.I think a lot of what we get out of life comes from our perspective and the understanding that life really does just suck sometimes, but it only keeps sucking if you dwell on the negative and give up fighting to make it better.

Happiness is fleeting, occurring in special moments. It seems to me that what you are actually asking about is contentment, a state of satisfaction with one's overall situation. That is entirely based on one's perception, so I am thankful to be one of those who can find contentment within the life I have.
