It depends on what you're looking for more then anything. It's not something that I could just recommend because it's a bit of an odd game. I've only played the first few levels, but it seems pretty good. It's really a matter of taste more then anything.

It's $5 already? I don't know I saw it on a Giant Bomb Quick Look, it seemed ok but maybe like $2.50 buy for me.

I think the user score is indicative of people's dislike of the DRM. Any game that has or has had the Ubisoft DRM always gets a low user score.

I have it on PS3. It's a nice little game but it gets pretty boring rather fast. Each time you finish a level it shows you the same stock footage, the challenges are bland, and it gets stale after a while. The challenges placed in each level are silly, the dangers your people face get ramped up each time, some recurring in the form of stupid things. Like plants that burst into flame randomly. With plants that absorb water and burst, putting out fires but also flooding your people.

I was hoping for a Populous style of game, but it was SO short and straightforward i didnt really enjoy it.

I happen to have a free copy on hand. Would you like it? You'd probably take it.

played it on xbox over at my my bud's house. It sucked. Hard. At least for me.
The sense of freedom (that you think would be in this kind of game) is extremely limited, and I became extremely bored after about an hour of play. The sense of "accomplishment" is also rather lacking, as you could spend too much time building settlements just to see some of them destroyed later on because for some other reason.
If you know that you like these kind of games, and you're a patient fellow, then it might be worth your $5. Maybe...

I got it. The last patch removed the "always connected" requirement. It now has an offline mode, playable without an Ubi account. (that DRM was the only that made ignore From Dust at release)

I can't help but think of this game as a Populous 3 clone, though not as entertaining.
Though the game is not bad, and it's fun for a while, there's absolutely no replay value. When you're done, you're done. You can finish the game easily under 4 hours.

Got it when it came out, I love it but it is way too short, I think it's a bit of a hard audience to get too, I'm a massive fan of God games so for me it was a no brainer and I loved every minute of it.

If someone where to take the mechanics of From Dust, and combine it with something like Black and White, or Sim City or some other wide open sandbox then it would be a very VERY fun game. Being able to build your world from scratch is a major draw for people. Ubi should look into it, maybe in the form of DLC or something. Would certainly interest me.

It's on sale for $5 on Steam. If you can ignore the DRM, which was removed I believe, would you recommend it?
Thanks.
