I'm looking for a LEGIT way to buy and play Alice Madness Return Complete Collection (NOT the standard version origin has with 10 euros - the complete edition has extra weapons, dresses and alice madness the 1st game). I've tried everything I could think of but nothing. I'm from Greece. I got excited when I saw it on Humble but it turns out it was a mistake and doesn't activate in my region (which is EXTREMELY weird and I don't understand it as Greece has 0 bans on games and 0 restrictions, everything can be played), it's only for the US I think.
I tried to contact EA itself which gave me an answer to keep my hopes up as the operator feels optimistic for this game (not the exact phrasing but you get the picture) but other than that he had no info on even why it is missing from the store or when it's gonna return.
All known and trusted shops have run out of that key and even shady ones don't have it (I wouldn't buy from such a shop but I searched anyway out of curiosity to see if it could be found ANYWHERE).
So I wanted to ask if any of you have any ideas of how to legally obtain this game and from where?

(and on an on-off topic mode I also was wondering why this game has gone extinct without any reason. Anyone have any information on what happened or what is going on with it?)

I was unsure which category -if any- fits so I wrote it in off topic.

Thanks in advance for any info :D

For the Complete Edition, I guess you can find it on Amazon maybe. But if you already have it on Steam or Origin this should be enough if you ask me.

I don't have it on steam nor origin as I always wanted the full edition.
So steam is not an option as it has been removed and I don't understand how can this work on origin. My guess is they have the same line of code somewhere on the installation?

All the DLC except for the original Alice is part of the base game already, you literally open the engine file and change one word and the extra weapons and outfits all work.

Well, it's not on the market for a long time. I believe you can get it on Amazon or so but I'm sure it will be with an unjust price so I do not recommend it. You can buy it on Origin and activate the DLC from an ini file. If you also want to play the McGee Alice, check this guide.

It's like free money for them...

Same. Out of curiosity, do EA games that are on steam now make you sign into Origin as well (the way that uPlay does) or just Steam login is enough to run the game? I always prefer if I only have to sign into Steam but I am guessing that EA would take the more annoying approach...

I don't really know sorry...I think I heard somewhere that they use some sort of Origin-lite version that starts and closes with the game, but I might be wrong, I haven't played any EA games lately :3

The original Alice is included in Alice: Madness Returns on Origin. You can also use a simple .ini trick to activate the extra weapons and dresses.

Remember to remove the FPS cap from 30 to have an awesome time (I played both games a year ago)

I'd just go with the Origin version with this in mind.

Are you saying American McGee's Alice is included in the Origin version?
Or am I misreading your post?

I have it also on Origin and it's not included, other DLCs as well.

I still read the post from Rexlux as if it should/is included.......

I think he/she meant it included in Origin version but it's not. Though I played the McGee's Alice, downloaded from this guide, you can check it if you want. I hope they get the license when they released Alice 3 and re-release on Steam.

If all else fails, the original game is available on Abandonware sites and has a fan remaster available, so that's a possible consideration for some, if no viable official methods of acquisition/enabling are possible. Similarly, there's a guide listed on Steam for reenabling the remastered version from the Complete Edition (which I won't link to directly since it involves downloading the game files and thereby may violate SG guidelines about linking to such, but it's one of the top results in Steam search.).

Good to know, will look into it and see what is the easiest/best option to get AMA.
Thanks.

It is included in the Origin version, yes. I played it myself. However, I don't know if it's available anymore without using this guide. I might have had the Complete Edition

Hi, could you help me out once more, please?

I had AMA up and running but didn't play it straight away.
The weird thing now is that the AliceEngine.ini file changed back to the original values!
So AMA wasn't showing in the menu anymore!
How is this even possible and will this happen every time?
And what will that do with AMA saves?
Would be kind of hard to finish the game in one sitting.......

You also said to remove the FPS cap, can you point me out where to do this?
Cause it is currently indeed just below 30 :(

Right click on the .ini file and go to properties. Make sure that "read-only" in the General tab -> Attributes, is checked. This will prevent values in the file to be changed when you open the game. You should also know that if you need to change values in that file in the future, you will need to first uncheck "read-only" and then make changes. About your other issues, I don't have the game so I dunno, hope Rexlux can help :)

Oh thanks, that's easy to fix! xD

AMA is running at 60fps but Alice Madness returns at about 30fps.
The only guide I found on Steam to fix that was in Spanish, but maybe it is rather easy and speaks for itself.
Otherwise maybe Rexlux can help with that, as you said.

Thanks again!

Going to continue with AMA tomorrow xD

I used the Spanish guide aswell, just use Google Translate.

Also, PCGamingWiki is your best friend in cases like this :)

Thanks Rexlux, will check it out!

Edit: just found another guide that simply says to change the line MaxSmoothedFrameRate, that works!
Set it to 144 which my monitors refresh rate.

ad no info on even why it is missing from the store [...] I also was wondering why this game has gone extinct without any reason.

It was removed along with the vast majority of EA's other games, back when EA pulled out of Steam (due to disagreements over Steam's cut of game revenue and EA's desire to incentivize purchases through Origin). As EA has since started relisting games on Steam, it's understandable if their customer support feels optimistic about the game's return to the client. As noted just above, you should still be able to get the complete version of the game through Origin.

No, it was removed back in 2017-2018 if I remember correctly. Long after the other EA games were removed.

You're right, I was thinking of the articles that were around back in 2011 (around when the other games were removed) about Alice:MR having been removed, despite that having been a mistake within the publications at the time [as Alice:MR was actually exclusive to Origin at the start, and thus couldn't have been removed from Steam at that time].

Alice:MR was actually removed in Sep 2016 though, after googling, the most commonly stated opinion seems to be that the reason was nevertheless the same as with the other games?

I also found various other hypothesies about things like consumer criticism driving the decision, but couldn't find any justification or sources behind those theories. They hypothesis that it's due to issues related to selling the first Alice is similarly dubious, given that Madness Returns could be sold without it to begin with.

Finally, some sites state that its removal was due to "Steam's licensing agreement with EA expiring", though I'm not sure as to what kind of arrangement that could be. Regardless of its construction, however, such a basis should be similar to the removals mentioned at the start, thus still supporting an eventual return to Steam.

If I remember correctly, you can enable "DLC" by editing .ini file in game folder xD

If you aren't picky, I know at minimum the first game DLC is free on PSN, but you would need the second game for PS3 to use it.
