Hey there, SG. I don't write here much anymore. This is because I'm just not gaming much anymore, I spend all my time on studying, university related things, and rock climbing. Well, it's time to play some games again, because I just went and BROKE MY SHOULDER!

I was biking to the climbing gym two days ago when I was going downhill and going to turn a corner. Well, Sweden being Sweden, it was a bit slippery outside and my bike couldn't take the turn. I fell right on my left side, and noticed pretty quickly that I couldn't move my left arm. Passersby called 112 and I had to take a taxi to the emergency room. The verdict? Shoulder fracture, have to wear a sling for 6 weeks, and no rock climbing for at least 10 weeks. Sad life.

So now I have time for playing games. What I'm looking for is some recommendations. What are some games that work well when one arm is not functioning? Worth to mention that both my hands still work, so I can play games that are "one-handed", on Steam Deck, and with a controller, but mouse and keyboard would be difficult.

Here's the list of my owned games on Steam if you can find anything there.. Otherwise, if there's a game that I don't own that you'd think I'd enjoy and is easy for me to play, please mention it!!!

It's also a good thing I'm into visual novels. Luckily I bought that dreaded Sakura Humble Bundle that I can spend time on playing. But do you have recommendations for actually good VNs?

Here's the train you're looking for

I recommend you to try One Finger Death Punch and One Finger Death Punch 2. Didn't play the second yet, but the first one was a hell of a drug for me when I broke my collarbone.

I would recommend giving X-com a try, can spend a lot of time on that. And you have both too.

Of VN I've played, I enjoyed đŸ‘‡đŸŒ mostly
ACE Academy
But I haven't played that many not adult ones

Basically any VN will be better than a Sakura game so you really can't lose here, go wild!

Really though, I've seen some people in this thread mention Disco Elysium and I can't recommend it enough! If you're looking for something more weeb-adjacent give the Key VNs a try! Since you've played through the Higurashi series you might enjoy Umineko too, but be warned - these game are super long the full readthrough will on average take 2-3 lifetimes!

Looking through my Steam library made me realise how much of a VN backlog I have...

Thank you! I also hope my studies go well, thankfully the injury is in my non-dominant arm and study-wise I just need to write on a computer and write on paper. Literally any other occupation would've been hell.

Game-wise I would immediately recommend anything that is turn-based, point and click, visual novel, most puzzle games... you already got some great recommendations, but it seems that your Valiant Hearts is still unplayed :3

I'm really sorry to read this. I have never broken anything luckily, but I've had serious cuts that could have led me to die. I had 2 surgeries because of that. I wish you quick recovery.

Others already mentioned those but I guess I'll put my two cents too:
The XCOM games which you already have are pretty good for your situation. They are long (so should take up a lot of that downtime) and mostly played with just the mouse (plus your other hand for a few keyboard shortcuts). I'd suggest starting with Enemy Unknown (hope you have the expansion coz those two games really don't "work" without their major expansions) since it's a lot more forgiving than XCOM 2.

From the games that you don't have, FTL: Faster Than Light is also a really good strategy game (real-time but with tactical pause, so you just gotta use the second hand to hit the Spacebar regularly). If you end up liking it, it has lots of stuff to do. ^_^

And finally One Finger Death Punch 1 and 2 (which pizurk already linked to so I don't have to ^_^' ) are really good games to play with just one hand (heck, they're played with just two buttons). Very fun, flashy and if you dive deep into them, they'll also take up quite a lot of that downtime. :D

a friend of mine managed something simliar, he slid from his bike onto the broardway and broke his arm.
i managed to broke my clavicle when i was young, had to rest it for 8 weeks.

for games, anything that is point & click should work, maybe games like darkest dungeon

Definitely any unplayed visual novel would work well in your case, as others have recommended.

While I haven't played it myself, Spyro trilogy could also be a good option. It's a pretty chill 3D Platformer.

I also saw you had Hitman 1 and 2 games which can also be fun if you want something more actiony. Since its a stealth game, the action isn't too crazy and the game has good controller support. For hitman 1, it's better to play it within Hitman 2 (can be achieved using import process, which hopefully still works).

Also, I saw you beat a short hike, so whilee you don't own it, Lil Gator Game is worth looking into and also a nice game to play in your predicament!

Regardless of what you play, wishing you a quick as possible recovery!

When I broke my elbow, I had the same dilemma. I found the most enjoyment out of playing VVVVVV.

Healthy wishes for you!
And how come nobody mentioned Puzzle Quest series?
Since you're no stranger to games with scenario by Kotaro Uchikoshi, you might like Punch Line although this game is goofier than his other works and I recommend getting it during a sale.
