I received a message like this
Just the usual scam attempt
Report your "friend" as they probably aren't even aware their account has been hijacked.
Edit: Messaging them will just mean talking to the hijacker.

That kind of a message is very suspicious. Why would someone send me a free $50 out of nowhere?

I got other message asking me to vote their workshop items, with weird steam link. Never trust suspicious links.

I got it too, but the url was steanmcoommunity.com i believe. I asked whether they were hacked and they said yes sometime later.

I haven't seen this, but good luck to your friend in getting their stolen account back!

I got a similar link form a friend that I used to play with. How can I help the original owner? Can my own account be hijacked?

I think you can report the account. Steam will ban it temporarily until the owner recovers the account back.
And yes, your account can be hijacked if you click on the link and login on the phising site.

Got a steam chat msg from a user on my friend list stating I received a FREE $50 Steam Gift Card, just click the link to redeem - Link was to StaemCommunity.com ... I asked the user if they'd been hacked but they haven't replied yet.
Just wanting to make everyone aware as I suspect a lot of ppl will receive these messages.
edit: Confirmed link I saw was:
staemconmnity
