I think you're getting the same issue I'm getting. I'm from the US, and apparently GMG doesn't have the rights to sell it in the US or something, even though Steam can.

Has anyone from the US been able to purchase it without a proxy or anything?

I HAVE DREAMED SO LONG OF THIS GAME. When I first got to play Guitar Hero (or something), I was like "Oh wow, imagine if somehow you could do it with REAL guitar, how cool would that be :o But is that even possible :( "
And then some time later "HELLO FRIEND HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF ROCKSMITH" and I was like "HELL NAW" and they were like "HELL YEAH" and then there was like this amazon "Yo dawg we heard you like playing while playing so we put a massive discount on this awesome game so you can play while you play" and I was like "YO EBAY, DELIVER CABLE PLS" and everyone be all like "YO KANGA TALK TO US IT'S BEEN THREE HOURS ALREADY, TAKE A BREAK ALREADY"

I'd imagine it's still fun. In the base game you get ~40 songs with arrangements for bass, rythm and solo guitar. In the end it's up to your liking if it's worth it. Depends how much satisfaction you get from hitting the right notes and getting ingame points for it :D
I mean sure, you could learn all those songs by ear or by reading 'regular' tabs, but this is much more fun. Basically, if you enjoy any type of Rock Band and similar games, this is definitely worth it.
Ah and also, besides the ability to learn to play songs, there are built-in amps (there's an amp mode where you just fiddle around), pedals and a whole lot of them, it's really fun to play around with it.
