Hello, amer187. You do understand that you cannot gift games from your library, you must have an extra copy of this game.

You guys are assholes, do you think everyone is a dumbass?

Thanks, by the way.

If wanting to make sure that someone who's new to the site and possibly to gifting through Steam understands the limitations of the mechanism means the person in question is a dumbass, then yes.

Your words, not mine. (And we're the assholes?)

Personally, I think it's a wise and necessary practice.

So your solution is to automatically assume that anyone offering something good is being dishonest until they prove otherwise to you?

If so, that's what makes you an asshole. If you think it might be fake, then don't enter using your points that have zero monetary value (and you received for free). The only proof anyone should have to give is delivery of the gift they created the offer for.

No, my solution would be to politely ask, just as lokonopa did, if the person understands how the system works. TenzenIA's request may have been slightly more forward and somewhat less polite, but I also don't think such a request is entirely uncalled for; most of us like to protect ourselves from fraud, especially in an environment where it's known to occur, and even when investing a virtual currency that has no monetary value. I'm sorry if you think that's an unreasonable desire. I don't.

Protect yourself from what? The loss of nothing, or simply disappointment that you didn't get a game for free in return for nothing?

Those points may not have a monetary value, but they do have value. They are a limited currency used to enter giveaways. Surely that's not a foreign concept.

I can't tell if your above comment is meant to be inflammatory or is genuinely indicative of lack of understanding, but either way we've wandered a bit off the path; if you still think clarifying the system to a new user equates to being an asshole, I'm afraid I disagree completely.

Assuming the new person needs clarification because of your paranoia that you might have to suffer a moment of displeasure because you didn't get something for free can certainly make you appear to be an asshole. You could just as easily assume that he knew what he was doing, as it appears to be in this case, but your own self-centered concerns seem to trump that notion. It wouldn't be so bad if it was once in awhile, but lately every single halfway decent offer has some random douche "clarifying the system" to the person, or outright accusing them of being a liar. Do you really think that encourages people to want to post more offers?

Do you think that once a gifter has established him- or herself as someone who understands the gifting mechanism that they will continue to be asked if they understand said mechanism? It certainly doesn't seem that way to me, so I doubt they'd be discouraged from posting future giveaways.

As for first-time gifters, my stance remains unchanged. I find it reassuring that an admin is proactive enough to ask the poster these simple, straightforward questions. Clearly you don't agree. You seem keen to find offense where I don't believe any is justified, but whatever. If that's your thing, go for it. Go all out.

If a new user--who joined mere days ago, has never gifted, has few or no entries and a similar number of comments--finds the same offense and great injustice in such a simple question, then they are free to not participate. If I were so easily offended I might do the same. Luckily, such things don't bother me. If I'm an unknown and doing something for the first time, I don't get all upset if someone asks me if I understand what I'm doing.

I simply answer and carry on.
