My message notification gets so full of "thanks" every time I create a few giveaways.

Honestly, if your comment is nothing other than "thanks", I'd rather you don't comment at all.

UPDATE: LOL now my message notification is full of "thanks" in the discussion forum as well. Well played, internet. Well played.

The real gratitude shows when the giveaway winner is taking his/her time to press the damn "received" button.

I love this quote, so I added to the top. Commented by RammPatricia

UPDATE: I actually included the "please do not thanks" in my GA description, people are finally slowly getting it. I wonder was it the power of this thread? Now I do not get 99+ notifications a day now (still I get like 50+).

You should know there are some good people out here who thanks you for all of your contribution, it won't matter if you say them not to post Thank you comments.

The winning move is not to create giveaways! No one'll ever thank you again!

It's politeness mostly, I think. Some people value a wall of thanks.

On the old version of SG I said "Thanks" on every single GA I entered or at least very very close to it with sometimes adding a little something extra. Now with all comments going to the inbox I usually hold off, sometimes I'll say something though not always. When I win though, I always add a thanks type comment and if the creator contacts me I say thanks at that time as well.

If this is heresy, I have been accused of far far worse in my time. /grin

No because it's the polite thing to do. The owner took their time and maybe their money to make a giveaway for someone to win it, why shouldn't we say thanks?

Because some owners (like me) hate to receive spam notification?

You could always write in your giveaway description : "People who write 'thanks' will be rerolled. No thanks necessary, it's all good!" and you'll kill most of that spam.

No, he will summon the 'Thanks' chain following the appeal of Behemoth himself.

Thanks for informing. If you really don't want thanks, you could add this to copy-paste text in description of every giveaway you make. I'll try not... do or do not, there is no try... ok, I'll stop thanking you if I have nothing more to say as long as I remember :P

PS: luckily there's "Mark all as read" button :)

This is why I usually ask a question in my giveaways, although its more for the conversation and community interactions then anything else.

So, here it goes on SG :

  • We don't like getting "thanks" on our giveaways.
  • We don't like the winners add our Steam account if they won our game.
  • We send the key instantly without any communication or message to the winners.

How the winners say their thanks, if the creators block all avenue? There are a lot of rants about winners who don't say thanks, but creators should still allow the community to say their thanks.

You are giving away something for free, it is normal, ethical, and polite for people to say thanks to you, whatever they won or not. Yes, the thanks could me mechanical and not sincere at all, but at least it show a drop of sincerity.

A simple descriptions of "No thanks comment. Thanks comment will be added to blacklist" will be good enough.
