Do you regret paying so much

I think overall World of Warcraft leads here, considering that I bought until Legion all expansions for it (and if we count monthly subscription, well...)but luckly I stopped playing completly few years ago, and on Steam was Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition on launch, for 100 euros. No regrets for any of these purchases.

My "recent" most expensive games were Borderlands 3 (Base Game + Season Pass 1 & 2) for 60€ and Diablo III + Addon for probably 90€.
Overall, if you consider the inflation, the most expensive game was one of the SNES or Nintendo 64 games mid / end of the 90s for 150-170DM / 75-85€.
Most games were absolutely worth it. 😀

I regret every single unusual i bought for this mistreated game called TF2. *BTW i sold them all. I did play a lot, almost 2000 hours, what a waste of time on a fundamentally bad game. And now i basically quit but thinking of installing again to play a bit on some nice community servers.

Phantasy Star for Sega Master System. It was $70 USD in 1988 which is equivalent to about $167 in 2022 dollars according to this inflation calculator.

Oh yeah, one of my favorites. It looks like a very basic RPGMaker game today but in 1988 it was like a revolution in gaming. :) Especially back in those days before internet, trading secrets with other kids in school. It was a good time. This video has a good description of how it seemed in those days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VoR4uwUVF4

I've never knew about the game, although I did own a SAGA console. Well, my friend did, I just happen to play with him every day if we could. You're right, at that time, the game did look impressive and as a typical RPG that a lot other games took inspiration from. It's just crazy to see such prices at the time.

largest purchase for me was $30 for Doom Eternal and another $30 for the DLCs… worth it! Very fun game, played it to 100%

Oh man... At some point Doom Eternal stopped working for me. I cannot play any games, it crashes when loading a level. There are some other complaints about the same issue in the Steam forums but nothing I've tried has worked. Too bad, it was a fun game. I finally gave up and uninstalled. I will try again someday in the future to see if they fixed it. I could play it on xbox gamepass but I hate playing FPS with a controller, I much prefer keyboard/mouse! :)

Good point, I do have the Ultimate (got a 2-3 years subscription for like $100 in a deal when it first started). TBH I don't think I've ever even installed a PC game from it, I only used it for Xbox, so I never even think about the fact there are PC games on it too. I wonder if the gamepass version would have the same problem as the steam version since they are both the Windows version of the game? My internet is not so fast and I don't reeeeally want to redownload the 70GB or whatever it was to experiment. :) But I'll give it a try.

I’m not sure, the only other Doom game I’ve played was the 2016 version, though I know that 2016 and Eternal are reboots so I doubt the storyline connects much to the older games. I found both of them very fun though, highly recommend

for pc Games: 220€
i just wanted the collectors edition for elden ring and had to buy this...
but i also have spend 230€ for the Board game of total war: Rome (gamefound) but this will take quite some time till i receive it^^ this might be the most expensive game i bought

I didn't pay that much for any game at launch, I'd probably eat bread with salt and water for a couple of weeks. I'm not only buying for myself, but for my wife too and she loved Elden Ring a lot.
How do you find the game? Worth the money and all you got?

Dirty Bomb founders pack for 125$. Was totally worth it though, played the game thousands of hours and later when they implemented trading I managed to sell the contents of the pack for profit.

The game is still playable with around 200 concurrent players, it just isn't getting updates any more and they removed the cash shop. All servers are player rented.

80€ in lootboxes for World of Tanks. Instant regret when I opened them 🤐

Pre-order Battlefield 1 since the beta was smooth on my PC. Later they changed minimum system requirements and suddenly my GPU wasn't enough at day 1. I had to wait for a year until I replace my GPU but couldn't played in most populated days. I couldn't get a refund either because it was from a keyseller.

Yeah I played some time, it was already 50% off when I start playing. Opening a lootbox to unlock things instead of earning them by leveling up was unpleasant. WWI setup was nice though but there were some historical inaccuracies which I didn't like. I think Battlefield 3 was the last BF I really enjoyed. BFBC2 was golden age for me.

It's a 10 year old game, I don't know how many people still play it. Last time I played there were so many cheaters which was like 7 years ago. I suggest just go with 4 instead of 3. And also 5 was better than I expected, probably because my expectations were low. :)

Bad Company series were the first Battlefield games that have a campaign and they were kinda unique on their way. With BF 3, DICE tried a CoD-like campaign. BF 4's campaign was a disappointment with its writing, otherwise it was an improvement over BF 3's campaign. With BF 1, they tried something different as well, it was okay. However, BF V's campaign was pretty good in my opinion. The stories were short but it had a real Battlefield experience on a single player campaign.
Generally speaking, Battlefield games never focused on campaign indeed, Bad Company 1&2 was an exception.

Probably the most i spend for a game was for GTA V for around 30€ and well worth. More than 500h in and 100% achievements :)

Grant Theft Auto V, 60 bucks at launch. Not for myself, it was an SG gift.
Probably the most I've spent on a game for myself was the backing for Torment: Tides of Numenera. I can't look up how much I spent anymore, but it was more than I normally spend on a game. Probably $50, looking at the tiers now. Even though it didn't end up as great as we were all hoping, I don't regret spending the money; it was still worth playing and I'm happy I got to contribute to games like that getting a chance to be made at all.

Yes it is crazy, but we'll hang on till 10 years, I'm sure of it. :P
I (almost) never check if winners play the game they won (too much work and I don't do anything with the info) but I checked for you this time. They played GTA V for 75 hours, it's number 7 on their list. (The first two spots are CS:GO at 3728 hours and DOTA 2 at 1011 hours, so we're talking THAT kind of gamer.)

75 hours is not bad at all. He must have played the campaign or something? Anyway, it's not important, but it's nice to see people winning your games actually playing them, eventually.

The most expensive one would be $60 and some tax, which was for a GA of cyberpunk 2077. That would be my last time per-ordering any game. I just bought it to celebrate new year 2077 and Cyberpunk 2077 was the most appropriate prize for the event. My second most expensive purchase would be $13.29 for The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt GOTY.

A wise decision, but you'll be surprise to find that a lot of AAA games nowadays, start at $50 to $100 for Deluxe editions. They are sure to drop to maybe half of the price, but maybe after years.
Game price has been an increase now for a couple of years. But it's wise to wait if you have a backlog of games.

I have the first one, bought them recently, like last year or something, when I found out about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. I gotta play them.

Eve. Kept up two paid accounts for ten years which comes to about £1500 I think. Even more terrifyingly the combined playtime across accounts is ~8000 hours which even if you handwave loads of it for multiboxing, AFKing, etc, etc. still feels like an utterly horrifying waste of life.

Hi and welcome back to another random question.
Today's topic is quite simple: What was the most expensive purchase you've ever made? This could be a collection you've bought at a really pricy time because you couldn't contain yourself not to buy it or you could mention a game you've bought that maybe is no longer on Steam and had to buy it on a key-shop or something.
My personal one is The Sims 4 with all it's expansions. I've bought pretty much every major update until Cottage Living (which I didn't even play yet - lol).
Anyway, what was yours?
The price for ALL the expansions is £515.08, without the game, that costs £35. I didn't pay that much, but I've paid for sure £150. 😨
Update: I came to the realization that I've spent a lot more in League of Legends, which is no surprise. I have played that game for more than 4 seasons, that's about 4 years, every single day, if I could. Based on my calculations I've spent £231.55. 😳😅
