[Edit] Apparently all keys are revoked, also from bundles (and thus from Tremorgames too).
https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/WzOGkfW
[Edit2] Looking at top reviews it also looks like bought copies from steam directly get revoked, so DO NOT BUY.

As for what this dev is doing, it's inconceivable to me that this will end well for him moving forward.

Honestly I don't understand this. Even if someone broke into my house and stole steam keys (I don't have them in the house, nor anywhere else - they are requested from Valve, I'm just making a point - please don't break into my house) and released them all over the internet... I'd feel sorry for people who actually bought the game because they'd be in a disadvantage here... But would write an announcement saying what happened... and maybe some of people who ended up with stolen keys would feel bad and support my next project or something to give back... Not delete people's keys, that's like the most wrong thing you can opt to do.

You can't ignore Steam's culpability in this. We've already seen several abuses, and they've done nothing to remedy it, so of course people are going to start taking advantage more.

Oh...? Well hmm, that's just nuts then. I think he's gonna be in hot water with Valve tbh...if that isn't rectified with users who legit purchased it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's indeed very fishy but Steam doesn't simply revoke certain keys because they still can be legitimate copies and Steam has no power or knowledge on which sites or shops or bundles the keys end on and which keys are given out for free and others have been sold.

Steam only revokes individual keys pinpointed from the developer or publisher that are reviewed manually, afaik.

Indeed, it doesn't. I mean they process lists developers hand over.

Comment has been collapsed.

It's all done by the dev these days...Valve has nothing to do with the process other providing the mechanism by which to revoke them.

But if a dev is abusing the feature, I think Valve would surely step in once made aware, because it reflects rather poorly upon their platform.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, it looks like there needs be a lot more control over this from Valve because the developer alone deciding which keys get revoked is kinda weird to me. If Valve would demand clarification for every single key that's being handed out, it would take ages to verify all of them but if the developer has to clarify whole batches of them before handing them out, these keys shouldn't even be revokable anymore after doing so (like batch #2 used for public giveaway etc.) without Valve having to step in.

Last I heard, mass revokes still go through Valve.

I suppose the janitor handles that.

I don't think Steam as a platform is held in much high regard by anyone this day and age.
Even the most fervent defender must be aware it's covered in a thick, very thick layer of shit.

Mine got removed too. There is no problem with that, as long as it's communicated properly.

In this regard, the developer failed completely and goes straight to my personal blocklist.

The only thing now that bothers me is that i can't remember where exactly i got it from.

I also just got an alert that it's removed, can't find how I got it in the first place - it is not through SG or TremorGames, and I doubt I bought a bundle with it included, so a bit of a mystery right now.

Two things:

  1. Two-dollar game originating from CIS with the dev having no other games under the same publisher name. 24% of total reviews are positive, where only two are written in English, pushing the English-language score down to 6%.
So, nothing of actual value was lost. Anyone in this thread who actually played this game, raise your hand. Nobody? Guessed as much.
  2. Considering Steam games are indefinite licenses that can be revoked any time for no reason whatsoever, which all of us agreed to when registering our account, I do not really understand why the uproar when something like this happens. I am mostly referring to the Steam community thread, not this one.

only if we violate their agreement they can revoke a license from our accounts. They revoke keys without issues because there isn't a drect purchase via steam so they have the right to do w/e they want i guess.

I agree with the rest, but not the English comment. Yes, most of us use English for convenience, but you can't disregard whole countries like that.

You can, when it constantly happens that the majority of the positive reviews of an otherwise low-scoring game always happen to be either in Russian or Chinese. Or sometimes both. They are skewing the score more than stupid kids doing stupid meme reviews or obscene ASCII art.

spam Steam support

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

afaik there is no really a way to do it. Dev cannot un-revoke the key and Valve is unlikely to provide him contact emails to all accounts who had game revoked (would be very exploitable - make shitty asset flip, give away 1 million copies, revoke them, request emails, sell them to spambot operators, also in mostr of western countries would be considered violation of personal data protection on behalf of Valve), only thing dev can do in such situation is either give keys one by one over email cintaining proof of purchase (been down in the past with Nekro for example, but it becomes undoable due to amount of spam very quick and devs usually quit then, again as with Nekro) or to give new keys to bundle sites that were selling bundles for them to send new keys to buyers (but then again, people who got it from free GAs, reseller platforms like tremor or people who won it on SG will not get their new copies).
