Games with good gore effects?

I would agree with the Soldier of Fortune recommendations (Though SoF 2's AI was magical and could see through bushes and walls and such...) I also remember that the Punisher videogame had to be censored to be given an 18 rating or something like that

Bad Rats

Rage has some pretty sweet gore next to the superb death animations, also Max Payne 3 has probably the best bullet wounds. Others: FEAR 1, Dead Space, Fallout 3/New Vegas.

Also if it's gore for gore's sake, Soldier of Fortune, Postal, Manhunt etc.

Brutal Doom!

Max Payne 3 had absolutely brutal shooting violence. I could never figure out whether it was cathartic or twisted, especially when I was repeatedly shooting someone in the eye in slow motion.

Definitely Sniper Elite V2 and Sniper Elite Nazi Zombies. The sniper bullet cam has a lot of gore and cool slow mo brutal x-ray vision of bones shattering.
