Hi!

So, the rules are the following:

  • You guess a number. (It has to be a natural number below 10.000, e.g. 0< your number < 10k)
  • The same person can only guess once.
  • The lowest unique number wins. In fact, the 5 lowest unique numbers will be winning. Well, not the numbers, but the people behind the numbers.
    The Clocky.
    To the game: Final results.

So, the private giveaway will be one for Duke Nukem Forever Collection. If more than 2 of the winners will have the game, I'll make another giveaway for Sine Mora instead.

And the game is closed now. You can check the statistics at the original link.

I'll be contacting the winners shortly!

Please, let me know if you have anything to say about this 'event'.

See you around!

That's because it wasn't in there. That's what the word "unique" means.

What were the winning unique numbers, if I may ask?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think that is referring to the numbers that are picked by a single user, let's say we both pick number 5 we are both out, am i right?

EDIT: I was right, thanks.

I still don't get the idea...
Let's say 5 people win there. So the people who win will be actually people who entered numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Isn't that true? It is rather silly I think since people who come here later have no chance... Or maybe I don't understand it? I would be happy if You/someone could explain the idea to me.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So, the idea is to enter a number, that you think nobody else will enter, and that you think is also going to be 1 of the 5 lowest numbers that there will be entered by others.
You don't have to enter 1,2,3,4 or 5, you can even win with 65, if nobody enters that, and all below 65 are entered multiple times. I hope this makes it clearer :)

So...basically this is a glorified ninja drop?

Because there's nothing to stop you from posting 1 and calling it done.

It's an interesting concept, though I don't quite understand how it works :/

Not quite :)

Except if you drop 1 and someone else does that too, then 1 is no longer unique :)

There is no point in entering if you don't know :P

Well, you can just wait for 2 days and enter or enter now and hope that the game won't be a disappointment :) Although, you have nothing to lose, so why don't you give it a shot? :)

I have many things to loose, i don't want to win for the sake of wining and having a game that will sit like trash in my inventory, i have enough of thoose from bundles that provided only 1 steam key that was activating all games.

What's the point if it's a game that i won't play?

That's why i don't understand ninjas that try and add keys and they don't know what they are for, STEAM games are not Pokemons, you don't need to get em all.

This is going to be a tough one to win! Who knows if the next will pick the number you just chose! Do you aim low and risk your chances of getting eliminated or do you aim high and overshoot the thing? Oh, God help us all...

I bet #1 will be the most entered. Reading comprehension is hard.

Here are the questions the mathematician asks:

  1. What happens if everyone picks the same number, or more generally if every number that is picked is picked multiple times.
  2. Assuming there is some way to deal with (1), what happens if every number that is picked is picked by more than five people?

:p

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

  1. However unlikely it seems, if such an event occurs, we'll figure something out :)
  2. I don't see how this would change anything on your first assumption, of having no unique lowest number(s). :P

As a mathematician you should know that the odds of that happening are extremely low. It can happen, yes, but it's almost impossible.
I like this idea, I'll take a number, see if I get lucky!

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

A mathematician would also point out the odds of winning lotto are also extremely low, so it's almost impossible, yet most people who enter give thought to what it would be like to win. :) I'm just having fun by the way. It's a neat idea for a competition, one that does my head in trying to think of a strategy, because it depends so much on unknowns - the number of and psychology of the entrants.

1 decade ago

Interesting concept. I am also pondering what effect it would have if people were to say which numbers they picked. On the one hand people would want to avoid those numbers because it would guarantee that they would lose, but if the number is sufficiently low they might feel forced to pick it as there is no way of winning if they know others are going to be lower. That also assumes people are telling the truth though, so there is a whole other level of bluffing involved. I assume there is the implicit rule of not mentioning what you have picked though. ;)
