So, I recently binge-played FF9. It was my first, and only, Final Fantasy I've ever played. I'm being honest here when I say it is quite honestly THE best game I've ever played with Chrono Cross at a VERY close second. So, here you go. Hopefully someone else can experience this god damn amazing.

My review is below. If you don't mind rating it and giving feedback, I'd appreciate it. I'm trying to write more reviews, especially on games I'm passionate about.

Also, hello. I've been away for a while. Again. What's up? Will probably bump this thread every so often, for the giveaway. Please discuss the topic of the poll. I'm interested, but don't turn this into a FF-politics threads, heh.

Giveaway : https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/1v5Bd/final-fantasy-ix

Edit : Bumping for the last week + 2 days of the giveaway. Cheers!

Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy XII, Vagrant Story

I tried Vagrant Story a little while ago but I just couldn't get a hang of the combat. I had similar issues with the game Summoner, as the skills in both games seem to require hitting the timed combos. Interesting game though, wish I stuck with it.

final fantasy 8, i grew up with it.

then tried ff7 and got tired, didn't even manage to play over 5 hours.
also played ff1 to 6 in emulators but also never finished any, they were way too basic to be played in ~2011.

Would you say the older FF's are just clunky or slower compared to today's standards? I felt like this with Chrono Trigger on every playthrough after the first, but then again its world isn't as big as some of the older FF games AFAIK. I'd try the older FF's in a heartbeat but I'm hesitant in trying NES/SNES games. I didn't even manage to complete Earthbound and I still feel bad about it.

i feel they are just "old" games that don't offer anything interesting to me.
there are old games that still hold up for me either because they are good or i feel nostalgic, but it's not the case with ff games. ┐(´ー`)┌

My top 3 in descending order: FF7, FF10, FF4. Haven't gotten to play 3, 8, 9, 12, 13(any of the series), or 15 (I'm not counting the mmos as true ff games). Hoping to play them all at some point, and really hoping that FF12 zodiac age will release on pc at some point.

I've played all of FF games, my fav is 4,3,5. I like 12 as well. People may hate me for this but I liked FF13, the first one though since the sequels were unnecessary.
My fav character of 9 is 'rusty' XD Freya and Amarant were quite interesting and Quina is funny XD

Currently i'm playing FF4 as I bought it on steam, but I've played it long ago on PSP the after years edition.

I love em all (altho I never played the subscription ones) but my favorite is still Final Fantasy VII, I still have it and the saves on my Playstation. It was a grind to play at times especially trying to get the gold Chocobo but it was worth it in the end. I've finished it multiple times but still after 20 years never actually did everything.

Thanks for the giveaway. :D

My favorite is FFVI. It was the first JRPG I ever played. It was more than 20 years ago, and I played it in japanese on a SNES, so I had to use a guide. Played it again in other systems.

Finished all main FFs except XV. My favourites are IV, VI and VIII, but I liked them all, even the XIII trilogy. I also loved Chrono Cross. If you haven't, you should play Xenogears, Tales of (my favourites are Phantasia and Abyss, but a lot of people also like Symphonia and Vesperia), Chrono Trigger (obviously), Breath of Fire 1-4 (especially 2 and 3), Dragon Quest (especially V and VIII, but I-IV and VI are also great), Wild Arms (I liked V the best), Vagrant Story, Lufia 2 and Lunar. Listed in order from the most recommended (by me).

Tales series and Xenogears are games I am hoping to play one day. Breath of Fire and Dragon Quest seem a bit specific on whether not I can stand them (older games and all). I tried the PS1 Wild Arms, the first one. It just seemed really odd to me for some reason but I should try it again. It was more fun than most other games I've tried.

Well for me it's the cliche, first FF played=favourite which is FFVIII. Objectively though it is one of the worst FFs.
Each one has it's redeeming qualities and some very big downsides. FFIX is probably one of the most "Fantasy" entries in the franchise. Battle wise for me it peaked with X, it was the FF that felt it flowed best with the ability to swap party members in battles so effectively you fight with 7 people instead of only the dispatched one.

Other jrpgs I thoroughly enjoyed were the Suikoden series, Shin Megami Tensei franchise(including the personas), Star Ocean franchise, Breath of Fire franchise, Legend of Dragoon and Fire Emblem franchise. All of which i highly recommend!

I've only played a bit of FF7 years ago, but I got stuck on one part of the game and quit playing.
I really want to get into the series, though, so thanks for the chance. :)

I played almost all FF games, and as for me the best is 8 (maybe because i played the 1st game in the FF series) then 9.

While I started with VII my favorite is still VIII despite the poor ending. I liked the world much more than other games. IX was the first FF I played to completion though (PS1)

FFX and FFXII are my favourites but I also liked FFXIII trilogy. I haven't played FF VIII and IX yet. Is steam version of these two worth or should I just buy PSX copy and play it on emulator/ps2/psx?

Steam version for 9 is very good and it's been patched quite regularly since release for it. It runs very well, no problems for me at all. Not sure about 8 but I assume it's the same case, as it's a Playstation port as well. I assume they maintained it just as much.
