+10% per 10 levels, so +1000% = 11x the base drop rate.
My booster pack drop rates are calculated across months (let's say 1/11 weeks for easy comparison), so "every day" seems rather unlikely.
But if he's reasonably lucky, probably at least 1/week.
Assuming my luck is poor, maybe 2-3 times that.
tl;dr, he likely won't be seeing daily drops till about 2000. :P
( And even then, he probably wouldn't be making more than maybe 50$ a year off them. so unless he crafted his way up using extensive alt-accounting and free games, it's unlikely to make a dent in how much it'd cost to get to level 2000 off standard game purchases alone. )

Wow, I've only gotten 2 over nearly 3 years... Level 19.

http://steamcommunity.com/tradingcards/faq Lvl 10 --> 20% Lvl 20 --> 40% Well, its not going to pay ALL the cards, but my point is, maybe he is not spending THAT much (also maybe he get some cards donation of friends or something like that, some people out there is really generous :p)

It's not that difficult, it was just not properly explained on the Steam FAQ.
Whenever someone crafts a badge, the cards destroyed in the crafting get packed into boosters. The boosters are then randomly raffled to anyone who is eligible to get said booster.
By default, everyone enters with ten "tickets" for each booster raffle. Every 10 Steam level adds 2 additional "tickets", this is why you have a so-called double chance at level 50, as it grants you 20 of these "tickets". (So PalmDesert has now 210 "tickets" for each raffle.)
This may sound good on paper, but then you have to realise that the combined number of entry tickets is [everyone eligible for the booster of the game]×10. In many cases, at least a thousand people are eligible, but the actual number is around 5000 to 500,000, so in the end even at best-case scenarios, you are putting your 10 tickets in a raffle against 50,000. Or PalmDesert puts 210. And the more owners there are, the worse chances you have.
So, it is simple math: you can spend money on reaching level 100 (not too expensive, but rare enough to be in a small club) and enter with 30 tickets instead of 10. So congrats, your chances to win a booster if you have one eligible game just tripled.
Or you can stay at level 8 (the usual minimum level to participate in Steam events) and spend that money on games that make you eligible for more boosters. So you can enter, lets say, 20 raffles with 10 tickets. Now your chances are twenty times larger to get a booster.
Same with PalmDesert. His level 1000 hives him 21× better odds. His game count gives him 1400× better odds. Which one do you think is the main driving force in booster drops? :)

That explains a lot- including why my drops compare so poorly to certain other users:
Looking at them, they have higher library sizes as well as levels. Given my predilections, they likely also have a bit higher ratio of games with trading cards active on them.
still doesn't quite make up the disparity, but that could be actual poor luck on my part- or an issue of me miscalculating my rate and them listing their own with favorable rounding.
In any case, that's very useful information- thank you :)

you recive 1 booster pack per game after you get it that game goes on cooldown and you cant get a booster pack for a week from it, but you still have other games you can get a booster pack, pretty much higher level and more games lets you have a higher chance

I get one every 5 or 6 days.
At level 112 with 1200~ elegible games.
I am aiming to get at least level 200 with 4000+ elegible games that way if the proportion is the same as my friend i will get one booster every 2 days sometimes 3.
I have a spreadsheet with the drops date / level / elegible games. if you wanna look at it.

that depends on number of eligible games owned entirely not necessarily number of levels.

Actually I think Valve should give some recognition for doing such a batshit crazy thing, like giving him a new gaming rig or a paid trip to the Valve headquarters or something like that. I mean both of those things probably would still cost less than he spent on badges let alone games. Granted there were more people involved but CCP Games also put a monument into Eve Online after that huge battle was fought or the eulogy for Michael Mamaril in Borderlands 2.
Well the joke's on Valve... The publicity alone would be worth way more than any price would have cost them.

True but every now and then they do a good job at pretending they do...
Remember Gabe Newell "personally" answering a support ticket adressed to his personal email adress ? Including the catchy sentence "At the end of the day we all at Valve work in Customer support". Stuff like that makes a great PR stunt.

Everybody wants publicity... I mean what's better then a huge pile of money ? Obviously even more money :D
And not everybody is so addicted to Steam like we here on SG.
I remember a few years ago it made big press in all gaming magazines and websites when a guy was the first to hit 1 million Gamerscore on XBox.

Implying Valve gives a fuck about the people they profit off

Never saw him buying from me before. Every time I sell something expensive on the store (foil cards, rare emoticon or background), I always expect someone with lvl 250+ or something. But it's always someone below lvl 30 crafting foil badges or something. :P

Sorry for me this is just stupid. Is there nothing else he can do with his money? Thats just a digital product?! I mean I for myself have level 115 crafted some badges after trading a lot. Sell some cards from badges I dont like to have and buy cards for badges I like to have. But this? Makes no sense for me

You're right, it is stupid. He might as well be flushing his money down the toilet. Personally, I don't understand how such a thing can be rewarding, unless you're super desperate for attention. But, no matter how dumb it seems to us, it's his money. However, it does sicken me how people act like he's amazing because he blows so much money on a number.

If I had that kinda money to blow, i would think of buying an apartment in New York or a school full of poor kids to sponsor. Spending so much on getting a just digital image recognition seems too much of an obsession. How does he even keep track of cards and place so many BOs?

Find the whole thing baffling tbh, crafted a single badge out of interest, was left underwhelmed by the fact I'd effectively paid money for a image file and haven't bothered again. Guess I just don't quite get the mental jump that happens to make these things seem appealing.

Hey, it's not stupid!!!!!!111oneoneoen
He has Level 1000 SteamPenis. What's your SteamPenis, eh? Eh? Eh?
(He spend at least $25k on that - you need more than 50k badges for level 1000, let's assume they by average cost $0.5. That's probably more than I'll ever spend on games in my whole life...)

With all the money he spent on badges I bet he could've sent an abundance of aid to MULTIPLE struggling African villages and made a huge difference to the lives of so many, many people. So maybe the Lvl 1000 badge could an image of those villages! =D

And I felt bad about having spent so much on badges over the years.. ;p I'm "only" level 158.
If I was rich like him I would rather spend my money otherwise.. Or even give to charity instead!!
But well, who knows. Maybe he already does that ;o His money, his decision anyways.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well...you already blew a lot of money on basically the same thing yourself when you could have donated them to charity.
Your steam level only is worth about 500 dollars(money which could have been spent on much more thoughtful things), not to mention your library.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, but not even close to $500 though lol.. And there's certainly a humongous difference between lvl 158 and 1000.
And yes, my library is huge, but it's stuff I can play, enjoy for countless hours etc etc. Not really the same as a badge with a number on it.
Also, I did donate to charity. E.g. with Humble Bundle and Groupees bundles, but I also used to donate a little bit every month to an organization for quite some time despite only being a student. So I got my conscience clear.

Not sure about you, but I would much rather have lots of games I can play than a ton of badges that you can only stare at. :)
Plus I don't really use much more money than before I started gaming. Like before a lot went to concerts, festivals, drinking at bars with friends, clothes, CDs, cinema, restaurants etc etc. Now I just invest that money on games instead. And I do play my games (little by little), and also only buy them at a nice discount.

Yeah I levelled up to 30 purely for the extra profile perks, but no interest in going any higher now....it just doesn't make any rational sense to me from a cost / benefit perspective.

Congrats to PalmDesert!
Me, I'm Level 23, and probably see a booster pack like once every 3-4 months... =P

So, this is finally happened, PalmDesert crafted over 3000 badges and becomes the first user on Steam that reached level 1000 - http://steamcommunity.com/id/palmdesert But Valve seems doesn't care, they even didn't have icon for levels beyond 999. What do you think about this?
Sorry, no giveaway, it's 1AM on my side and i need go to sleep ASAP
Okay, maybe just one little giveaway for level 3+ people - https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/lSydv/the-big-elk ENDED
