Last week I was hospitalized for pancreatitis. They have zero idea what the cause is since the two most prominent causes (alcohol and gallstones) are not factors. I guess flu season has experienced an enormous up-tick in flu cases as all of the rooms are doubled-up. My roommate has Hep-C which is is of course über great!
Anyway, I'm bored as all hell. I have no gaming systems at all unless you include this damn phone (I don't). The TV is setup so that no external components can be connected (WTF?).
So what do you do in a situation where you have limited movement, no games, and the environment isn't conducive to reading?

First of all I hope you get well soon, mate.

Mh, what did I do when I was in the hospital... I was listening to music non-stop, so I didn't have to talk to my roommates. :D
Surf the internet, watch videos (as long as you have wlan, hospitals here charge you for using it), watch TV when noone else uses it, sleep, lots of sleep. Oh and I would take a wheelchair and take it for a ride (no matter if I needed one at the time or not).

What phone do you have tho? I could give you some recommendations for games that are actually worth playing on the phone. Not that candy crush shit, but story games that you could play for 2-5 hours.

Mh, so Android. I have an iPhone, but let me check if some of the games are also in the Google Store.
Deus Ex: The Fall
Scribblenauts!
Unfortunately these are the only two that are also on Google Play, but btw if you have Android I would recommend getting a bluetooth controller! The iPhone ones have to licensed and stuff, so expensive as fuck, but there are like 10$ controllers for Android.
Also Retroarch/Libretro is a great emulator for the phone if you happen to have a controller, which you most likely won't in the time you're in the hospital, but it also has touchscreen support.

I have a six axis emulator that also enables me to use my Dualshock 4 with the phone... I picked up a version of Sony's remote play that works for any Android. I unfortunately have never tried it with anything outside of that program though.
I should check out the Deus Ex title. I've actually got Scribblenaughts on here for my son, but it has never really been my cup of tea.

I couldn't stand Scribblenauts, myself. I have an extremely low opinion of its objective quality. :X

Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey is a great option for mobile platforming [I've only played the PC version, so I can't say how it translates to mobile; but it's a good base game, seems like it'd translate well, and I believe it's free :)]. There's also a fun mobile tile sliding puzzle game, but I can't recall the name. :(

Oh, and there's that Card Hunter knockoff, Loot & Legends, that's supposed to be rather fun. Pretty sure it's on both mobile platforms now. :)

I'm sorry to hear that... I had something similar happen when I was in high school. I had mono for three months, but the tests came back negative over and over again. Finally, my doc just decided to treat me as if the tests came back positive. He gave me a shout of cortisone and I was feeling immensely better the next day.

Ugh, that sucks, Admiral. A good book would have been great, but it sounds like that's not ideal. I don't know what kind of phone you have, but what about an audio book? Music might help, hunting around to see if there's anything decent on TV, or maybe even poking around on youtube (again, depending on your phone) to maybe check out game reviews for something you're looking forward to? I hope you heal up quickly so that you can make like a tree... and get outta there.

Some things I wanna say about hospitals:
1) When I was still a baby, I was hospitalized a few times and the hospital was ultra dirty, full of cockroaches (yes, FULL of them).
2) When I was in the navy, I went to the hospital for a serious pain in my stomach, but they couldn't even find what was the cause of it.
3) If you get infected by a microorganism in the hospital, well...bad things are going to happen, so avoid staying in the hospital for too long.
4) The staff in public hospitals is usually quite rude and doesn't even care about you. In private hospitals though, they're extremely polite, they care about you, and they have a lot of beautiful nurses. :P
5) I hardly ever get sick, but if I ever get extremely sick, although I don't like hospitals, I know that I would need to go to the hospital. You may not find the best doctors and nurses there, but they'll still try to help you and cure you. ;)
I hope you get well soon. Are you totally sure you can't read somehow? Because that's the best thing to do. Other than that, you can start talking with family, friends, etc. :/

Sadly, your navy experience is pretty much exactly what I had happen... I was sick for ten days in all. Because of the severity I went to my doctor on the second day. They didn't hospitalize me until day six, but they did all kinds of different tests prior to that. They still do not know what caused this.

I play Gems of War on my ZenFone 2. It's one of those match-3 games, but like none I've seen before. It's not great--kinda dumb, really, but I play it all the time. The load times can be annoying--probably a combination of how it's programmed, and the low-moderate specs of the phone. Also, it's easier to play if you have a narrow stylus, because the gems are the size of eraser heads on the phone.

Other than that, I myself would've asked someone to bring me a pencil and some paper to draw.

Hope you get well soon.

DAMN! That's a handful of mobile games... I've never purchased one of the mobile bundles. When it comes to handhelds; in the last year I sold off my 3DS, Vita, and my Shield handheld (really kicking myself on that last one!)

You could have been set for the hospital if you hadn't sold them. :P
If more visits are to be expected in future, look up a older system. A PSP with custom firmware would be a good choice for an extended stay. Great library of its own releases, along with emulation if you want some older stuff. Last time I was sick, I spent a lot of time playing Shining Force CD on my PSP.

Yeah, its a few games. Sadly, Miitomo takes up my phone storage now, so I can't play any of them.

Last time I was in a hospital. one of the nurses was a 20-25 year old beauty! She had short blond hair, slender body and an amazing smile. When she was on shift, every visit to my room was like a blessing. On the other hand, the head nurse was an evil old hag. :D

I hope you get well soon! If you're in the USA and have an Android phone, install the Amazon Underground app, they have thousands of paid apps you can use for free. Full version games, DLCs etc. for free. Just be sure you're in the right section.

Audio books are a good way to kill long periods of time - archive.org has free ones of varying quality... and your local library might offer free ones of commercial quality on their website (if you have a library card).

I wish I would have seen this post while I was still there. Thanks for the link! I'll get use out of this regardless. Also, I am in the states (Minneapolis, MN). Oddly enough I have the Amazon Underground app, and for whatever reason I didn't even think to go there... I could have put KOTOR on my phone! I used to play that game all of the time. Fortunately, the Feuds Ex recommendation from DownwardConcept worked out very well.

Download and listen to video games (or other topics) podcasts nonstop. They save me from many hours of tedium and boredom.

And get out of there asafp (I mean, get well soon). I have the utmost respect for hospital personnel. Most hospitals here are public and free-ish, but they are severely undermanned and budgets have been cut back once and again over the last few years, yet, most ppl working there are the best pros and give it their best effort every day, often in very hard circumstances. That said, i'd much rather stay away and save them the trouble of having to look after me too.

Also, take your rightful place on my whitelist and maybe enter the GA I have currently open.

Basically, it seems that hospitals need to be a no-fun-area, so you WANT to get well and leave (or give up and die, i guess?).

If he doesn't wash his hands properly after using the bathroom, he can spread it to you. Don't let him handle any food that you will consume - don't even share a bag of chips.

Bleech was my friend... I used to work as a prison guard, and that sadly made me all too familiar with the condition. He actually never told me he had it... and perhaps he did not. However, his symptoms, the medications he was taking, etc. all spelled out Hep C. He was also clearly not treating it, or in the latter stages as it was affecting his memory and belly looked as if he were pregnant with octuplets. Thanks for the tips though... if I wasn't familiar with it and in that situation it could have been a lifesaver... so your advice is greatly appreciated nonetheless!
