SteamGifts Tools is a tool in a form of a website that lets you do some interesting checks to steamgifts mechanics:

Link www.sgtools.info

Themes

  1. SG Dark Grey Userstyle by SquishedPotatoe thread
  2. Old (deprecated) ones:

User Scripts

  1. SGTools Helper: Help you create giveaways with SGTools typical options and marks protected giveaways on steamgifts giveaway page
  2. Links to user profile: Awesome userscript made by SilentGuy that adds links to the common sgtools checks on a user profile. See his thread
  3. Links on giveaway's winners page. The script will add a sgtools.info link next to each winner's 'Request New Winner' link in your giveaway's winners list, so that you can easily check them for non-activated and multiple wins
  4. ESGST: An all-in-one script to rock your Steamgifts experience. It integrates to and gives quick access to several SGT functionality from inside steamgifts website.

Tools

  1. Check real cv value (as we had in steamgifts v1) and it's level translation with a detailed log of every game contribution and how they add up to the final number.
  2. Check real cv for your won gifts, so you can compare with your send gifts.
  3. Check if a user has activated all his gifts, useful if you want to check a little bit the winners of your giveaways.
  4. Multiple Wins. Checks if a user has won and marked as received the same game more than once
  5. Last Bunled Games. List new additions to the bundle list of the last 7 days with a minimum of 50 entries, showing the game (with a link to steam), the date since the game is considered bundled and the date when it was added to the bundle list.
  6. Create, manage and enter giveaways with more advanced and complex filters than the ones in steamgifts.
  7. Deals and their bundle status

Limitations

  1. Since CG don’t give us an open API, all requests have to parse your full profile to check your sent games, this will take some seconds (more if you gave away tons of games!), so please be patient.
  2. The site uses a cached bundle list, so if you find a recent bundle game that gives you a full value instead of the 15% one, just wait until the next cached bundle list is ready. Cached Bundle list auto-updates itself every 6 hours starting at 3:00AM GMT (3am, 9am, 3pm, 9pm).
  3. The tool will search steam API to get the real cost for packages that has its point value truncated to 50 in steamgifts, but if the package is no longer available the tool will use the points as CV (50$).
  4. It may sound obvious, but the tool can't check not activated gifts if the profile is private.

Hey Knsys, I recently heard from someone on SG who's trustworthy and even showed me a picture that out there there's actively being advised how to cheat/scam SG tools giveaways so that even those that don't meet the reqs can enter. Can these cheaters/scammers be stopped by you/your tool?

And if someone from SG support sees this can I ask him if entering and so also possibly winning by " fraudulent " means an SG tools giveaway is that a valid ground for requesting a new winner/re-roll?

Yeah, I checked it myself. Sooth link shoudn't have " / " at the end. Here is proper user.

And I attach result of SGtool check.

Edit - I checked few more users and it works like this for every user that has got only numbers in the nick. But when they have at least one letter it works fine.

Get a Steam API key and go check yourself what steam returns for your account:

http://api.steampowered.com/IPlayerService/GetOwnedGames/v0001/?key=PASTE_HERE_YOUR_STEAM_API_KEY&steamid=76561198119594053

As you may have guessed by now, no the DLC is not reported as owned for your account and that is a typical issue with dlc's on steam, because steam api sucks. And sgtools use steam api, so the game must be whitelisted to avoid problems.

You don't choose when to sync, so it doesn't go like this. Cache last longer than 30 minutes.

Ah I see, I assumed it synced when I checked qualification. I know I had it public since Thursday or Friday of last week as I forgot to go private again until I attempted to confirm on Sunday and went to flip it to public when it already was so the cache must be set longer than that. I don't like all the spam my profile gets from spammers/scammers trying to trick people on my friends list/who check my profile. I'm sorry about that, the blue badge will attract people for sure. But it's for a greater good, if the owner of the giveaway wants that you have activated all your gifts, then sgtools needs to verify that and it can only be verified with a public profile.

Having issues... It's never done this before. It's showing things as not activated and I have activated everything on my account.
When I go into the details it says "Steam API has problems identifying some owned DLCs, so the following ones are probably activated!"

(which they are all activated on my account...)

"Max Payne 3: Deadly Force Burst (October 17, 2014, 10:25am)

The Lord of the Rings Online™: Steely Dawn Starter... (February 7, 2015, 7:17pm)

Magicka: Horror Props Item Pack (May 12, 2015, 6:53pm)"

also says "Games no longer in steamAPI to check" (which are also activated on my account.)

"This category is similar to previous one, but the dlc (most probable case) or game (rare case) is no longer in steam API database.

Humble Indie Bundle #2 (September 29, 2012, 8:46pm) (I've checked every game from both these bundles and they are all added)

Humble Indie Bundle #3 (October 3, 2012, 5:01pm)"

It kinda bums me out... because I've always activated everything... and the sgtools has never done this before. I wonder what has changed. :(

I have the same issue, even when I change my profile to public for the checks. I have only one Steam profile and all my wins have been activated in this account as soon as possible. I re-checked last night just to be sure and everything is there, but according to SGTools I was "flagged" for non-activated wins (while my profile is set to public), so I can't enter giveaways filtered with SGTools when my profile is public. I have just now changed back to private, as the way I prefer. But still, I think there's a problem how SGTools is checking the profiles.

By the way, it wasn't an issue up to last week, just since this past weekend.

I was thinking that maybe some caching was the issue. I always sync manually with SG every 3 or 4 days (usually twice every week I change my profile to public just to do this). Last time I did it was last night. I guess I will know the next time I try to enter for a game I want to play filtered with SGTools...

so aside from private profile... (now set to public) The issue must be with the dlc
Max Payne 3: Deadly Force Burst
The Lord of the Rings Online™: Steely Dawn Starter
Magicka: Horror Props Item Pack

Is it possible for SGtools to be updated so it doesn't flag these items ?

Permalink

All the items you listed on your original post are not really "not activated" as the text that predices each section explain.

That's why they are hidden by default and not colored red like the real "not activated" results.

Don't worry about those, you are clean and you'll be able to enter every giveaway that ask for "having activated all your gifts" in sgtools

For over four weeks in that case. I checked it in late November/early December for an event where I was contributing with non bundled games that were on the wishlists of the group members. Risen 3 wasn't on the bundle list then, it isn't now, so it doesn't look like a temporary glitch.

Was it bundled due to regional pricing? Can't remember I ever saw a bundle with it in.

...or do you mean that the bundle status of the game was an error (which has now been fixed)?

It WAS bundled.

I knew it was added to the bundlelist, but when I talked after some time with someone about it they said that it isn't there and it made me super confused about my memory coherence :D So in the end it wasn't problem with me, but it really was (for some time) on bundle list.

I don't doubt that it was on the list, I'm just wondering if it was a mistake that it got there in the first place, or if it will end up there again. Not that the CV matters much, but since knsys says it hasn't happened before it's a bit interesting.

Always when a package (including the game in question) is cheaper than the game itself, Steam-API will return the data of the discounted package. SteamGifts (and anything that uses the Steam-API) then in turn takes the original price of the package as price for the game.
Nothing anyone can do about that but Volvo...

Concerning the recent uproar about that privacy topic, maybe this would be a possible solution:

  • Make the sync with SG random (this data is always available)
  • Allow people to sync the Steam data manually (put a button)

The cheating will happen on the SG side so it's a good idea to not let people know when the sync on there will happen. But there actually is no reason I can think of as why the sync with steam has to be at an undisclosed time. You could even cache those information, so the "unactivated wins" check would even work with private profiles. (At least for all wins before the last sync.)

In case you really decide to do that, I would put up a warning that data from synced (Steam) profiles will be stored and can be used for the check.

All credits for this idea go to SilentGuys comment up here. I just phrased it out...

This is the ideal solution to private profiles, and it would work flawlessly but there is a small, little problem, server capacity.

Right now sgtools runs on a really basic and limited server. The hardware is extremely tight and it's near it's maximum memory capacity right now, so doing and storing a full sync for every user is not feasible.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I thought so. Server performance would be the main problem, on the other side it would only be necessary to store the data for those with private profile who actively use sg-tools (use a manual sync). I would imagine there are not so many in that category. Everyone else could be handled like before.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sorry if I'm not understanding this right, but by "every user", do you mean every SGTools user who has logged in via Steam at any time, or is even some useful subset of this too much for the server?

Is there a way to do less overall cacheing using this technique (e.g. for every active user for the past hour, five minutes, whatever), possibly at the cost of some inconvenience to non-public profile users such as myself?

I have no real problem having to make sure my Steam profile data is cached with SGTools however often is needed if a balanced compromise can be made to work. My only desire is that it should be able to be done in a short amount of time while my profile is public (I'm thinking along the lines of SGTools telling me that it needs to update its data - perhaps when I'm trying to enter a giveaway - please open my profile and press this button, then SGTools holding on to that information for as long or short a time as makes sense).

I don't know the architecture of your software (though I'm a former software developer, and I know well that ideas are cheaper than implementation), and anti-cheating measures just bamboozle me (why can't we all just play nice instead!), so if I'm just talking rubbish, please just pat me on the head as nicely as you can...

By the way, as the opener of that can of worms, I didn't mean to rattle any cages, just get some discussion going.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've been busy lately, sorry for the delay answering.

SGtools now doesn't store any user-game information on database, not your steam owned games, neither the giveaways you activated. The reason is that even without that, the server is struggling to keep up on petitions and ram is always at 90%+ or swapping.

The situation is quite bad, so now storing the owned games to allow steam sync probably would kill the server. It's what should be done, and not only for private profiles? yes of course. But right now is not a thing the server can afford. I plan on moving to another server soon, but until this happens the idea of making the DB grow that much is not a good idea.

We all know that if there is an option to sync, everybody will sync, so it's not a matter of only do it for selected users, because at the end everybody will use it.

Don't worry about the post, I'm used to handle the rage of people who can't enter some giveaways :)

Thanks for that information. I well understand the limitations that having finite resources in the face of abuse places on SGtools, and I can live with them quite happily so long as people are aware of the consequences. If the ability to improve the situation in the future is found, that's cool.

This really wasn't about rage at not being able to enter giveaways on my own part (I came to SteamGifts to offload spare games, the freebies are just a nice bonus), it was about raising awareness of a privacy issue I care deeply about and of the difference between not respecting privacy (I'm not trying to enforce social morals here, only promote them) and the incidental exclusion of a minority as a result of people using a well-meaning and otherwise very useful tool (i.e. by the people who just want to use SGtools to facilitate enforcing SteamGifts rules, other than those who specifically choose to exclude non-public profile users). If I expressed myself poorly, I apologise.

Great job on the app, love the features it has so far! One suggestion though, would you mind making bundled games retroactive as sg does?
An example could be one of my wins, The Talos Principle. Bundled on November 11 while I won it on November 13, but it counts as non-bundled in my real cv.

Not the date when you won the game, but when the giveaway was created accounts for bundled status. So (for my timezone) the giveaway started on Nov 11 at around 2 am. I guess on server timezone this would be somewhat like Nov 10 around 9 pm. So it started before it got on the bundle list and therefore counts with full CV.

Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong...

I don't remember exactly but I think if the gib was made around the time it got bundled it counted as bundled? Maybe I'm wrong, but I do know the -95% was active before they added it, so I'm mostly salty about that ヾ(◕ฺω◕✿ ฺ)

I'm very certain, that every giveaway that is created before the date on the bundle list will count with full value. no matter when it ends. I had this case with woolfe, it got a good discount, I made a giveaway and BAM it was in a groupees bundle. Still I got my full CV. (and SGTools calculates it correctly)
So you could make a ticket to support, that the date on the bundle-list might be wrong.

Or you might try to argue here, that for won CV the end date of a giveaway should be relevant

Ah, I see, my mistake then, apologies.

Don't worry, I won't argue about that.

I have an opened support ticket since November 19 about this topic. The problem is the how steamgifts tells the date of bundling and how it translates server timezone to user timezone.

The cache should never be messed up. It can be outdated but not by that much, just wait for it to invalidate itself.
