Johnny Smoke is just the name of the video maker or poster, who had a really bad choice to place his name RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE, and not in small or semitransparent font...
When Bowie died, someone made a video of dozens of pics of him from younger to older, that one was great too. And I don't mind this video is obviously made with AI.

It's actually the opposite.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathode
I'm not a chemist, but for example the image caption in the article says: "Positively charged cations move towards the cathode .. "
And lower in the article: "The cathode supplies electrons to the positively charged cations which flow to it from the electrolyte... "
Comment has been collapsed.
It's been too long since I left the school in 1877...
A cat-hode (sorry for the spelling error) is where cat-ions leave the vet-battery. But not where they enter. To do that, you have to deceive your cat-ion giving him electron-treats and heading to the back-office entrance, with a very unglamorous and anod-ine name: anode. But the back-office door doesn't say "only for vet-battery cat-ion entrance". It says "this is not a vet-battery".
There's a point in any analogy where comparisons start being far-fetched and ludicrous, but that one still holds up. Also, the 2nd mention you do, mentions that cathodes can be positive or negative. I'm neither chemist or physicist, but at least I'm not Terrence Howard.

Managed to sprout some tomato seedlings from:
I don't usually get much crop from anything but the tomatillos (which need 2 plants to pollinate, and then explode tomatillos everywhere like blueberries in Stardew Valley), but it's exciting to see all the tiny sprouts.
Positive bump!

Nice!!!
While I've seen them before, it's the first time I see the name "tomatillo". :o
Comment has been collapsed.
They are strongly tangy like a tart granny smith apple, but more soft flesh, perhaps like a not terribly ripe tomato, but has some of that tomato flavor essence on the back... They should be a bit yellowy when ripe, but are still tasty enough in various shades of green. I've seen some very very dark green ones in stores though, which might be a bit much.
Also nice in salads. For green mexican salsa (verde), they're usually cooked. But...meh. Lazy. Easier to eat fresh. :D

That's so cool!!! :o You're super knowledgeable, that's super cool too. :o (I've read the messages below too)
I unfortunately don't really have cool stories to share. 😆 My mom did try to grow some tomatoes at some point though! :D

Wow, that's so cool! Surprising to hear you managed to get crop from store-bought tomatoes, but I guess if they are organic there's a better chance of success!
As a kid, my mom and sisters would grow all sort of things from seeds of store-bought produce - oranges, grapefruits, etc. They grew into beautiful trees, but would not bloom or yield crops. Thinking about it now, maybe it was a pollinating issue? I was too young to remember now though, lol.

I am sprouting more of the sungold tomatoes, which I know have seeds which will make tomatoes. The others I just wanted to see if they'd work, as they were delicious, so why not? (I think one didn't have any seeds at all...! Oops.)
Citrus like oranges, grapefruits and stuff generally don't breed true to seed, if I recall, as they cross pollinate like crazy (like apples), so you're likely to get some hybrid of some sort. Most citrus from stores is on a dwarf root stock (another chunk of citrus plant) that keeps the plant growing smaller (for instance, only 30-40' tall instead of 60') and also reduces chance of root disease or (I think) frost damage. Citrus usually self pollinates, but it can take 5 years for it to fruit, and some really like the right level of sun and stuff. They do make pretty plants even if they don't fruit though. (I have a calamansi citrus grown from seed from a friend that hasn't flowered or fruited in it's 8 years so far.)

Wow, you seem very knowledgeable in botany!
Unfortunately, we had to leave them all behind when we moved. They were indoor plants (for obvious reasons, as Canadian winters are not great for tropical plants lol) but we just put them outside hoping to give them a bit more life before winter takes them, I suppose. Quite sad to think about the many years of caring and tending to trees only to have to let them die due to moving and not being able to bring them along.

I went to college at UC Davis, which is an agricultural heavy school, and one of my elective classes was about thrwee pruning and care. But a lot of it is also just searching the Internet for "can I grow X from seed."
Maybe someone adopted your baby trees after you left... Or you could start a new sprout!

Oh that's so cool! Congrats! I've always wanted to get into a lil bit of gardening, but never had the space in my backyard to do so :P

I sprout the seeds on my window sill, as well as growing small succulents. And you can sprout those spring onions from the store, that have the small roots on the bottom, once you cut off a chunk of the greens off the top, they'll grow back. They're very cute plants for a window sill.
If you stick a fleshy succulent leaf or chunk of plant on dirt, it will usually make a small plant of it's own. The last leaf I sprouted took 5 years before it outgrew the window sill. :D

Ugh, mealy bugs are the worst. I find I just have to walk by the plants and smush bugs every few days, and that helps. ...when I remember.
We get mildew on our roses. I trim it off, but there's a spray for it I think. It's definitely overtaken some of my plants as well.

Freshly picked tomatoes are the best! My gf has tomato plants on her balcony and the conditions are just perfect there (she doesn't live in Paris lol) and she doesn't get a lot of bugs (could be because she is on the top floor and there are lots of birds on the roof) but she did have to cage the plants because her dog obviously agrees that freshly picked tomatoes are the best thing ever :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Tomatillos! It's so hard to find here! I used them on everything back in Canada but I've been missing them so much since I've been in Paris.
There are a few (very few) latino stores I found but they don't carry much in the way of fresh produce so nopales and tomatillos are canned. Doesn't really work.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you can find a riper one, the seeds grow very vigorously! I've found seeds that are flat like paper won't sprout, but ones that are ever so slightly bulging-flat will make sprouts. You need two plants to make fruit, otherwise you get flowers but no tomatillos.
I have trouble finding tomatillo plants here in the middle of California, so I tried saving seeds a few years ago. They're pretty forgiving, in the scheme of learning how to save seed, and sprouting plants, and such. You just scrape all the larger thicker seeds you can find from it as you eat it. :D I stick em on a paper towel to dry. Then just fold the paper towel once it's dry and wait for February or ...maybe later for Paris...?
The leaves and such are pretty, even if you don't end up doing more than sprouting them.

Wow. That's really cool. Although multiplies the chances of failure lol
I don't know if I'll ever find fresh ones here but I have buddies at work who have family in Mexico. I'm pretty sure they could get seeds from a fresh fruit.

Heh it's hard to say nowadays because February was very cold until it wasn't and now March is April but going back to January temps in a week. I think April would be safer.
Now I have to find myself some seeds! That was very instructive, thank you.
I planted tomato seeds this way before (not here but at my gf's in Portugal) so I'm sure it can work!!
Comment has been collapsed.
You start them the same as tomatoes (so many weeks before frost etc), but mine usually fruit later, if I recall. And mine were more weather tolerant so kept producing further into colder weather.
For 'multiple points if failure ', I just keep three sprouts in each little pot (pinching off the ones too close together or smaller), then cut back whichever of the three is worst as they keep getting bigger. I often just let the two left keep going. They kinda grow all over anyway...
Good luck!

My balcony is exposed to east, south and west. Tomatoes love this, tomato plants love Mediterranean climate. They like dryish air, they like to be scorched by sun, they thrive in dry and sunny conditions, only the soil needs to be regularly wet. I live in Poland, but my balcony is like a little teleport to Greece, it's so sunny.
Comment has been collapsed.
Haha a teleport to Greece! I love that!
My balcony is a teleport to hell. I literally had to give up on having curtains because they are getting yellowed by the sun in less than a month, that's how hot it gets. Haven't tried to fry an egg on there but I'm sure I could.
Enjoy your fresh tomatoes. They're one of the best gifts from Mother Nature.

Did you know that caffeine and theine are actually the same? Many plants produce caffeine, but they get other names until biochemistry proves that they are just caffeine. You can learn about more examples in Wikipedia's caffeine page.

I've noticed a rising amount of negative posts and threads lately on SG. From sad and gloomy topics to rants and angry posts, it just makes me feel slightly depressed.
To counter the negativity, I created this 100% positive thread! The one rule of this thread - think and post positively!
Tell me what good thing has been happening in your life, post cheerful gifs, anything really. Let's cheer up those who feel sad, and maintain the mood of those who don't. ^^
Here's a small giveaway to celebrate positiveness: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/HuABS/labyrinthine-dreams [ENDED]
Please note that I did not create this thread to devalue or disapprove of anyone who's posts are negative. Everyone has their share of sadness, anger or depression in life. Matter of fact, this thread is especially created in order to cheer up anyone who may be having negative emotions. :D
