Another update was just rolled out, allowing users to delete their own giveaways.

If you view one of your giveaways, you'll see a Delete Giveaway button where the typical Report Giveaway button is located. If you click it, you'll be forwarded to a page where you can select a reason for the deletion from a dropdown menu (See below for the list). After selecting a reason, the giveaway will be instantly removed. I know there are going to be a lot of questions, so I'll try to summarize some of the mains points.

  • First off, about 20% of our support tickets come from users asking for deletes, so this will be a huge help at reducing the workload in support.
  • The site should be cleaner in general since the creator can now delete their own giveaway or beta key after realizing their mistake, instead of submitting to support and waiting on us.
  • Only giveaways which are open or coming soon can be deleted by the giveaway creator. This ensures they do not delete a giveaway after it ends simply because they don't agree with the winner.
  • Deleted giveaways remain on your View Created page. This way, if a moderator removes one of your giveaways, there's still a record in place so you can find out what happened.
  • Giveaways that have been deleted list a reason of why they were removed, and whether the action was performed by a moderator or the giveaway creator. For example, click here.
  • Points are automatically refunded to users that entered a deleted giveaway.
  • When you create a giveaway, there's a notification saying, 'Based on your current feedback score, you're able to create up to x additional gifts.' Deleted giveaways count towards this limit, so if you're able to create 5 additional gifts, and you create and delete them all, you'll be locked out. This prevents users from simply creating and removing giveaways, or trolling.

I reported one user for faking giveaway two weeks ago. He won private giveaway of 2K Collection. Twice.
No sign of these games in his public steam profile. He has contributed $1,309.66, but only $35 in visible giveaways.

And in that two weeks he won, because of his faked contributor status:
Half-Life 2
Supreme Commander Gold Edition
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
Nuclear Dawn
Super Meat Boy
Defense Grid: The Awakening

So, dear cg, I think that there is serious problem with support and this site under your glorious leadership.

The large amount of wins is partly the fault of the giveaway creators not investigating their winners.

Nice idea! If I may, I have a question

For how long a user can be locked out? Is it a permanent ban, as with 0% feedback?

thanks for the update.
i think it would be nice, to give the giveaway creator a reroll button (or something like that).

Reasons could be:

  • winner already has the won item (maybe he/she entered multiple giveaways for an identical item and already won it in another giveaway (forgot to leave the remaining giveaways)) and/or did not sync account and accidently entered a giveaway the user already has
  • winner already has the won DLC (there are games, like Magicka or Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012 (108 DLCs by now) with a lot of DLCs and Steamgifts does not recognize them, so you have to manually check, if you really, really, really don't have it yet
  • sometimes, with the release of a DLC, the customers of the base game get the DLC for free. it just appears in the libary, without notification (i currently have an open support ticket (almost 2 weeks) by myself, because i won a DLC i just got for free and didn't notice it before)
  • 'Leaked' Giveaway: winner does not belong to the potential target group (e.g. chats, ...)

That could easily be abused and will likely not happen. Same reason as "Only giveaways which are open or coming soon can be deleted by the giveaway creator. This ensures they do not delete a giveaway after it ends simply because they don't agree with the winner."

I think that an option to re-roll if both parties agree, would help in certain cases.

The winner of the giveaway should ask for a reroll to the gifter, but then we'd have a bunch of "I clicked re-roll by mistake (my cat did actually) and now I've lost my gift"

If two people would both click by accident the re-roll button, then it is their mistake. No system is fool proof and cases like that would be very rare. One could lessen the chances even more by demanding a verification. So it would require two different persons clicking by accident re-roll button and confirming it too by accident.

Based on the experiences I have had on this site, I would guess that we would have our first case within a week.

Considering there are already a bunch of people who click on received because they think it's how they're gonna get their gift, they'Re likely to click on re-roll to send the gift again. Idiocy and/or lack of proper understanding of the english language can lead to such problems.

yes, it could. Just consider it sth. worth thinking about.

another way could be: a 3rd option for the winner, that initiates a reroll (maybe only available as long as it hasn't been marked as sent)

I agree with that, though it would make problems with rerolling giveaways over and over again. I think if moderators would watch if nobody's abusing reroll button or if there would be like one chance to reroll, then it would be good.

I hope you´re still working on creating fully supported Mod accounts, cg. Because the site is going down at highspeed without proper administration. There´s rulebreaking, contrib faking etc etc everywhere. And I really start to think about leaving this site.
