Hi SG

I just got a message from Steam saying a key that i activated has been revoked (can be seen here http://i.imgur.com/yDpjTmv.png)

The key was originally from a bundle that i brought on IndieGala the 25. December during their christmas sale on their bundles (i brought all their bundles and activated them that day http://i.imgur.com/f0dYdy1.png)

Have anyone else that have experienced this?

Edit: it was from the Mixcellaneous Bundle

people reported quite a few DIG keys being revoked as well, even owners of DIG confirmed it in this topic. Revokes are going on in batches.

Groupees is down at the moment, so I can't check that, but I activated it on 5 December, and IG had it's bundle from 10 December (?) so it had to be groupees key.

Yhm, so it's to be expected ;) I think noone reported groupees key revoked yet ;)

Im thinking its from groupees but can`t be certain since their site seems to be down.

He sold the game rights to ... Groupees.

The publisher is now Groupees on Stem... I think it used to be self-published so that is something.

Doesn't change the fact that it was Valve's fault and it will get fixed sooner or later.

I'm not sure it's entirely on Valve, I think it might have been amateur-hour by Groupees. And they are trying to roll blame to Valve...

Possible, maybe they sent the wrong file.

we will never know whether it was Valve fuckup or Groupees fuckup - both stories are possible and as we don't have access to their files/emails it cannot be called. Nonetheless - much more important than who to blame in this situation I think is how they will handle it. Even if it's Valve fuckup but they just keep saying "blame Valve" it will be PR disaster for them, if instead, even if it's their own fuckup, they quickly issue new keys or unrevoke old ones - that's damage control done right and fair and I won't care whether they fucked up or Volvo did.

It was Groupees f*ckup.
Why would they revoke keys that were already sold and paid for?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

like I said - we have no proof for either side so we cannot be sure. They claim Steam fucked up.

And like I said as well - more important than who fucked up and who to blame is how it will get resolved. Will their quickly fix it and hand out new keys or will they just keep saying "not our fault, blame Valve".

Yes, we know that already. That is why people have been telling folks all over the net to stop bashing the developer. He doesn't control the keys or do the revoking anymore.

Just had a reply from IG support. They're aware of the problem and they've contacted the dev about it.

refer GA winner to this thread to show that it's not really your fault and ask him not to mark as not received just unmark until it get solved and you get a new key for him.

The winner is actually the one who made me aware of this thread. :)

So what do you mean by it getting solved and I still having to get them a new key? If it gets solved, wouldn't the game be returned to everyone's accounts?

it may be, but probably won't be. It would require contacting Volvo (and we all know how long Volvo takes to sort things out) to un-revoke specific keys only. It is possible, but would require quite a lot of time knowing how slow they are to sort things out. On the other hand getting new batch of keys and sending them to IG and DIG to give new keys to all buyers seems like much faster and easier way so I guess it's the one it will be done.
Similar to Humble Bundle screw up with Sunless Sea keys. They just revoked all wrong keys and send out new ones to buyers.

Email from IG Support

Hi,

Seemingly the developer removed all the keys from all the Stores and we are waiting for his answer.

As soon as he gets back to us we will make an announcement on the site.

Thank you.

To sum it up, Groupees purchased the publishing rights, they wanted to make sure leftover keys from other bundle sites won't end up in resellers' hands, so they contacted Valve and something has gone terribly wrong.

yes they did. And they broke IG ToS doing so (as they do with most of their keys).

Why did Groupees revoke keys that were already sold and paid for?
It's not our, IG's or Valve's fault.

Once we paid for the keys upfront, it's our business how and when we make use of them.

Why do you have enough stomach to still sell the keys for DIG points?
Edit: You also have an active GA for the game that you're yet to delete, is this not from the same batch? Just curious.

not fully true - depends on what contract you sign up with dev/publisher. If contract says that keys are to be used for bundle purpose only and after bundle ends you use remaining keys for promotional/GM stuff (like normal raffle GAs, gleam.io GAs, trading in stuff for these keys or they end up on grey market etc) - they have every right to revoke the keys that were not sold according to contract. Other thing is noone has the right to revoke the keys that people bought via official bundle dev/publ agreed on.

i guarantee indiegala wouldn't be in business after this long if they were breaking contractual agreements in such a fashion

in fact, this whole thing about repossessing keys, i guess it may have been in the contract. if not, i hope indiegala at least took the opportunity to get some extra profit, by demanding a higher sum than they paid initially

Good news to those who got the game at TremorGames and got it revoked.
This is a message an admin of TremorGames posted on the forums: "We will refund the keys if the issue is not solved. Looks like the developer and Valve made a mistake."

A bad situation, though it sounds like Valve shares at least some of the blame for this for misunderstanding or mishandling Groupees request to revoke unsold keys.

Yet again though, I gotta say, this only highlights that you do not own DRM'd games and essentially you have no control over them. So unless you're fine with renting, you should be looking to buy DRM-free.
